  6. I'm not exactly a VT fan but right is right and wrong is wrong. The NCAA gets things wrong more often than not! Roast their asses SVP!
  7. She knows more about football than 90% of this board! 😏
  8. Interesting tidbit since these two returned to East Surry, NC for this school year. Stephen Gosnell had 205 yards receiving and 2 TD catches. Brother Benji had a forced fumble, fumble recovery and TD run. East Surry beat East Wilkes 69-7. East Wilkes scrimmaged Galax a couple of weeks ago. East Surry's QB is 6'-8" tall and 230 pounds and has committed to North Carolina. He finished the game 17-19 for 295 yards and 5 TD passes.

  10. Copy and paste the games into the body of your message reply. Pick a winner for each game and a total points for the game of the week. Good luck and welcome.
  11. Kolby Barnes from Galax! Another "Swiss army knife" straight out of the Caleb Spurlin mold. Kid is as tough as nails with a bit of a mean streak and seems to be everywhere at once on he field. And he's only a junior!
  12. Grayson County fared quite well against Radford on Friday. Radford was the better team but it was far more balanced than anyone expected. Either Radford's dominance or Grayson's demise are greatly exaggerated! Maybe a bit of both?
  13. First, I don’t have a dog in this fight so, I’m not taking sides. Take this for whatever it’s worth. Second, Google Maps is accurate to the extent that I am able to legally use it in my profession. Which says an awful lot about it’s accuracy. Just saying!
  14. Galax scrimmaged East Wilkes NC last Saturday the 10th and play Floyd in a benefit next Friday the 23rd.
  15. Chad Lipes is the new varsity boys head basketball coach at Galax. Lipes played basketball at Covington High School and Lynchburg College. He was a graduate assistant at Lynchburg last season. Longtime assistant Glenn Burnett is taking over the varsity girls program.
  16. Galax is a prime example that this is indeed a very accurate statement! Galax has state championships in football, basketball (2), baseball, soccer (5), and several individual state champions in wrestling since Mark Dixon took over the football and weight/conditioning program in 2010. Those 9 state championship teams were littered with the same kids. The dozen or so individual wrestling state champions also played football, baseball and/or soccer.
  17. Galax has 35 players, which is a bit of an uptick in numbers from years past. I'm sure some of the 9th graders will play JV though. Solid group too. They should dominate Region C and have an excellent opportunity to reach Salem in December.
  18. East Wilkes was big but a bit soft. They will likely be on par with what they have been in recent years. About a .500 football team. Galax played a lot of kids out of position. Mixed and matched returning players with newcomers to see what they have and who works well together. Not too much time spent with returning starters playing their natural position. I would say it was a typical Mark Dixon scrimmage.
  19. I suspected as much. They have half-a-dozen older brothers who played for East Surry. The whole family are local legends in Pilot Mountain.
  20. The Gosnell’s have returned to East Surry. The younger brother played in a jamboree Saturday in Hickory while the older sat out with a hip bruise.
  21. My brother played against him in both high school and college. He was a good player. Hate to hear this!
  22. Elliston, VA about 8 miles southwest of Glenvar and 12 miles southwest of Salem on Route 460/11.
  23. Aside from two critical errors in the kicking game that gifted Galax 14 points, Fort was outplaying Galax until Brown’s injury. One at the very end of the first half, the other at the very beginning of the second half. That would have been a lot to overcome but Brown’s injury took the wind out of their sails. I look forward to seeing how Dixon utilizes Brown’s skill-set. Two other players transferred from Fort Chiswell to Galax as well. I saw them Friday afternoon while volunteering at band camp with my daughter. Not sure of the names but one is long and lean with very good hands.
  24. I read an article in the Washington Post on Thursday that stated Norton has the highest per capita mortality rate due to opioid abuse in the United States.
