My opinion of course.

Graham's fight song is one of my favorites besides Big Blue... I hope I only hear it once Thursday.

Fred Simon has been coaching Bluefield since the Challenger explosion. Greg Mance has been coaching Richlands since the Clinton administration. Those are two coaches who have seen almost everything; adjusted to almost everything; and have won almost everything. In order to be playing in December (unless you luck up in a year like 2004 or 2013), you have to go through the Greg Mances and the Travis Turners of the world to get there. Palmer’s not at that level...yet. I’ve seen nothing to suggest that he can’t get there. However, I would like to see more even-headed and consistent play. The Union game last year was disappointing not for the loss, but the manner in which the loss happened. Same for the Richlands games in 2016. Those are program-defining moments. Again, I have the faith he can get there.

This but will add in the factor of Graham lacking the discipline. Graham should win but I look for a grinding run by Richlands to give them a fight.

I think you confused the word “brave” with the word “stupid.” lol. No one is kicking to Cam on purpose.

why would they? It's downright silly to give a playmaker of his ability to get the ball in the open field.
it's the same reason teams stopped punting to James Mitchell last year after he scored 4-5 PR TDs. Don't give a teams best weapon that kind of chance.

Bluefield has open offers to Blacksburg, Christiansburg, Giles, and Tennessee High that I know of to schedule games. They have always been turned down. Do they play a weak schedule? I think so but it is because there is no one strong to play. Graham is pretty good most of the time. Same for Richlands. James Monroe is pretty decent. Who else are you gonna play? I'm sure if Union called Bluefield and the dates lined up Bluefield would play Union.

People who say Bluefield plays a "weak" schedule obviously don't know how hard it is for the Beavers to schedule local competition. Teams in the area don't want to play Bluefield because they not only lose but get embarrassed. People always give Coach Simon hell for running up the score on teams but what is he supposed to do? Take a knee the entire second half? People don't like Bluefield for the same reason people don't like Richlands, they win all the time. If your team has dropped the Beavers off of their schedule, then you have no right at all to accuse them of playing weak competition. Especially when Bluefield has had to schedule teams like Charlotte Country Day School in the past because they couldn't get anyone around here to play them.

Pick a name out of a hat at this point. Maybe put Ridgeview in there 2-3 times, because they’re better than everyone else by a slim margin, but it’s very wide open this year.

LB would demolish Chilhowie or Ridgeview. Maybe Pulaski keeps it close. Bluefield still better despite losing to a great 3A school.

You can’t control your competition. All he can do is look at the tram on the schedule and go out and run the ball. And he’s done it well. I think if you put him behind the lines of Ridgeview or Union or Chilhowie, he’d have the same numbers against better competition. But that’s just the way I view it. Kid is on pace to hit 2,500 yards and regardless of class, that’s not something you see every year.

BlueRazor reacted to Account Deleted in Old Richlands controversy
I've slept on it, very well too I might add! Let's try a different tact and see if we can both be civilized adults, shall we?
By starting a topic titled "Richlands Controversy", you are opening up the potential for a free-for-all. I hope you can understand that. It may not have been intentional but of all the topics that tend to go very south in a hurry, anything slamming Richlands tops the list. Usually by a troll attempting to create chaos. Given you frequent the other site far more than this one, I attempted to head something off before it got started. In mentioning Ryan in my opening post, I simply meant he is a proud Richlands alumn and supporter as well as a moderator on this board. I felt like the topic needed to be monitored for the potential of it needing to be locked before it went off the rails.
As for the thread on the other site, I have re-read the entire thing and came away with the same conclusion. Whether intentional or not, it felt as if you and a couple others were ganging up on me over something you were all completely wrong about. Here is further proof in the links provided.
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/tebow-bill-defeated-by-virginia-education-committee/
https://www.richmond.com/news/virginia/government-politics/general-assembly/republican-led-education-committee-defeats-tebow-bill/article_90377982-7547-5e48-9d0e-d40004a82163.html
Homeschool kids are not, nor have they ever been, counted toward public school enrollment figures in Virginia. As a matter of fact, the last 3 governors of Virginia have stated publicly, they would veto any bill that were to make it through the state House and Senate for signature into law. Grayson's enrollment figures aren't fluctuating very much as a result of homeschool children either way. The VBOE website states Grayson has 93 total homeschool children residing in the county. 93 kids spread across 13 grade levels would average out to be roughly 7 kids per grade level. So, if the Tebow law were in effect in Virginia, 28 kids wouldn't be much of a change for Grayson. Full disclosure, I was born and raised in Grayson County and a Grayson County High School graduate.
Despite what has happened in this thread, this board is really far more welcoming and far less judgmental of the Appalachian stereotype than the other site. That's why we like it here far more than the other site and want to protect it from the random troll from over there. It happens far more frequently than you think. Welcome to the board. Please stay and enjoy and hopefully, we can put this fiasco behind us!
Feel free to PM me for further civil discussion if you would like.

BlueRazor reacted to Grapeape in Old Richlands controversy
The story: Richlands asswhooped a big rich high school in the state finals. Big Rich High complained like a bunch of bitches. The vh$l caved & suspended Richlands from the playoffs the following year. The ruling made the vh$l look like fools, allowed the Richlands coaches to be home for Thanksgiving, & accomplished little else.

I think coaching made a difference and also the strength of schedule, and I'm not looking down on Tazewells schedule as much as I am talking about the tough one the Blues have played. They were use to the speed Tazewell had, and knew how to contain it becuase of playing teams like Blacksburg, W Byrd and Bluefield and the U.Bears.
Tazewell is coming, I think there is no doubt about it, but they were up against a team that has been tested by one of the toughtest schedules around and I do think that and coaching made a difference.
Good luck to Tazewell the rest of your season !
