JDHoss reacted to redtiger in Union Bears JV
Best youth program around and the results are obvious. There is always a pool of talented football players for Turner to work with.

Talent ebbs and flows at any program, but the difference between being competitive year in and year out versus every once in a while is having stable and consistent feeder programs. BSG/Appy is lucky to have the hardworking and dedicated folks that enable this to happen.
As long as stability meets the expectations of the interest, the Bears will be set for years to come.

Most high school bands are just now recovering from the Covid shutdown. Band was basically eliminated while everything was virtual. Social distancing after virtual ended and students went back to school meant that space for band students was severely limited, thus keeping bands from recovering until very recently.
Galax had 16 band members in 2021. They have 43 in 2023.
Edit to add: Band competitions have also become something of a nuisance. They are trying to cram too much into one day events. John Battle is having a band competition and assessment in the same day tomorrow. Assessment in the morning and competition in the afternoon. My daughters call-time for tomorrow morning is 6am. Assessment performance at 10:15am. Competition performance at 3:15pm. Awards at 9pm. We will be lucky to get home before midnight. An 18-hour day is ridiculous for anyone but this is what band is now. Let's save money on travel and force these kids to cram three days worth of stuff into as short a window of time as humanly possible. Couple that with a football game tonight, our weekend is shot all to hell.

VHS can hit 80 if they wish. You'd be hard pressed to find a weaker program than Jenkins.

THE Benjamin School fans are a trip. The team makes a big play or scores, it's a polite golf clap. No band, no loud music on the PA. Of course, their athletic facilities were built with a generous donation from PGA great Jack Nicholas, so maybe it's a noise rule he requested. 🤔

Absolutely. Turner has my vote, but to act like he produced great teams out of thin air is a disservice to a lot of great players who came through the program.

It’s a small school but let’s not downplay the amount of truly great talent Turner had at his disposal. People seem to ding Phil bc he was blessed with talent but Tom wasn’t exactly playing with a bunch of scrubs either lol. Huff, his son, Travis Clark, etc……he had some serious talent in those coal camps.

It was nice seeing the kids from FPC so fired up early on, but their hopes died with a flurry of special teams errors that led to 16 quick points for Vero. Beautiful night for football though. A little windy, but 82 degrees and low (for South Florida) humidity.

Thanks goodness. Not thankful for the broken rib, but definitely thankful for what could have been or the alternative. Ribs hurt like the Devil when broken and healing, but sounds like he will do fine.

Got word from his mom this morning. Broken rib. Lots of precautions were taken. He wanted to keep playing but when he left I was hoping it was just a bad stinger. Really wasn’t expecting a rib injury at all.

Coach Collier's quote from the KTN.
“It’s not a spinal injury because it’s more of a shoulder (injury),” Collier said. “Most everything that everyone saw was precautionary. They’re going to Med Flight him out. The way he described it, it was more of a shoulder.”

Several things to say about the Titans...
They run the Veer extremely well. QB had me fooled multiple times.
They didn't back down or act intimidated at all. They fought hard and will continue to do well the rest of the season.
People that hate or love train horns need to check out theirs. Geez that thing was loud!
Also, their concession selections were awesome!
Good luck Titans the rest of the way!

It does. I really miss the atmosphere back home. There are only about 3-4 places from here to Miami that have a decent atmosphere. Vero Beach comes the closest to matching a SWVA atmosphere with their band, crowd and train horn. That Said, it's nice watching late October and November football in a tee shirt, shorts and sandals. 🤔 That, and there are a lot of nice athletes in most games we go to. Everybody down here has guys who can run.

No game for us tonight. Wanted to go up to Cocoa to watch Treasure Coast v Cocoa in one of the top games in the state tonight, but the weather looked stormy up that way and a lightning delay of any kind would have put us past midnight getting home. Our dog is an old boy and I hate to make him stay in that long without being let outside. We were going to watch Fort Pierce Central and Vero Beach instead, but we had 4 inches of rain this afternoon and the field is completely saturated, so they put it off until Monday at 6. It'll be three games for us next week...
Monday - Vero Beach at Fort Pierce Central
Thursday - Moore Haven at Fort Pierce Westwood
Friday - Pahokee at Atlantic in Del Ray Beach
