S10SQUAREBODY4LIFE got a reaction from Mountain Football in All-District/Region???
Fact: abingdon is in the district and their players deserve some attention also. Is it right? No, not on the same scale. Easier said than done, get better and learn to overcome and compete. They still only play 11 at a time.
Fact: O'Quinn numbers great, but their lack of a solid run game accounted for most of his attempts, just as tazewell. Still incredible numbers that exceeded anyone else, should be #1.
Fact: the most talented list of skill guys in 10 years. H2H should determine a lot when you're talking db vs wr, or rb vs lb, not qb vs qb. Stats are all you have but if you don't perform vs district games then your stats vs hogo, bd, and Cumberland don't mean squat. Just the same, your starters vs everyone's jv late in a blowout/shootout don't count for much but if you're into moral victories then buy your own awards. Defense had just as many tough kids with great stats so I'd hate to have to be the coaches lobbying for awards.
Great season, everyone is bringing more to the table each year and it's beginning to get to where almost everyone is competing and on a given night, anyone's game. Things aren't as simple as they used to be when everyone was is a running formation.
When our region can produce state contenders, you can't ask much more. In the end, to the victor goes the spoils.
Most everyone on here is in direct contact with these young athletes. Encourage all these kids to become better athletes, season by season. Weights, track, baseball, soccer, etc. If they learn to work and compete, they'll always represent.

I figured they wouldn’t have the courage to vote in O’Quin as first team. Without Cole, Abingdon still makes playoffs and wins M7. Without O’Quin RV loses 5-6 games this year.
Also: “ We need to bracket and press that Haynes Carter. If we can control him we have a shot to beat Abingdon.” Said no one, ever. Once again…..you cannot, in any stretch of the imagination, say anyone in M7 is a better WR. I hope the RV coaches raised hell.
Lomax was cheated of the award that he won outright. This one bothers me the most. Shameful and shame on every coach that voted that way.

S10SQUAREBODY4LIFE got a reaction from Real Sasquatch in Graham vs King William VA 2A State Championship
That's what I noticed, don't have much surge, especially in the 2nd half. Graham has gotten better week by week, peaked at the right time. Qb can't run, rb still getting it done because of the big guys up front. Same on defense, progressively got better from start to finish.

Claiborne is 75 percent of their offense. He does a lot of it on his own. He doesn't need much room. But I agree with your assessment of their xompetition. Lafayette was a good win for them, but Graham looks stronger up front then Lafayette.

Interesting game, think it'll be close but the qb from appo may be the difference. They've got a much better run game than the pack but Graham defense getting better when it counts. Glenvar and Radford exposed some holes in appo defense but couldn't come up with stops. Special teams more critical than ever.

Just talked to whole staff; next season they've agreed to only call td plays on offense. On the defensive side. They will only call sacks and int's. Special teams, will only recieve one kickoff a game, no punts due to insane defense. This should fix everything.

S10SQUAREBODY4LIFE got a reaction from redtiger in should union get a new head coach
Takes time, just gonna guess someone is in their feels because their boy didn't get his name in the paper, or upset because (parents attitude) he's a senior and deserves it regardless of his inability to produce anything on the field. Role players are important, but that doesn't mean you see them on Friday. Their work may be best Monday-wednesday.

The question is not if Union should fire Turner. It is when Travis leaves who are you going to replace him with. There are loud rumblings that the head coach could be gone before spring. Now like all rumors until it has weight to it its still just a rumor. The problem Big Stone and Appalachia have is that if Travis actually leaves for a bigger job is the remaining staff that could be promoted to head coach. If Union goes within then I believe you will see a huge drop off in wins and kids playing fall football for the Bears. The kids know what the problem is and its not the head coach but who is standing on the sidelines beside him on GameDay. The supporting staff that Union has is a complete joke. From the defensive coordinator having a gold plated Ps5 remote trying to run Madden 2021 defensive sets that he finds mid game on the big screen they have on the sideline to the buffoons wearing backpacks just clapping their hands and smiling cause they get to wear coaches gear every week. I feel sorry for Travis because he trys so hard with the hand he's dealt and every year its the same product year. People are dunce if they don't see the sideline as the problem. I know everything falls on the head coach but in wise county you have to hire county employees to be the coaches sometimes a regular person gets to help on jv or 8th grade but the rule is that coaches have to be county employees. The man has both hands tied behind his back and still has Union as the premier team year end and year out. The sideline is full of clowns that have held back Union since they have been here. Some longer than others. Time to clean house on the sidelines and get some people that are hungry for championships! Not worrying about what toys they have in their backpacks on Friday night.
This is my first post. But I've been reading since the lpd forum. Just needed to rant.

Excellent points. I think many forget PV had 12 seasons after its last title ('98) w/ Robbins still at the helm. Appy had 13 seasons after its last ('97) w/ Tom Turner coaching for 8. Most people under 30 would have no recollection of the glory days.

This gets me. I actually had a parent venting to me because James Mitchell, as a freshman, was starting and their kid, as a sophomore, wasn't. Don't get me wrong, their kid was good, but he was no James Mitchell. I also remember a kid starting on the line in 2013 that couldn't block a coma patient, and being a senior was the only reason I could come up with as to why he was. It's difficult to see things when we're so close to them.

Agreed, certain tasks that may be too much for certain staff might be slowing them down a bit but not enough to get rid of him. Record speaks for itself, had the ball bounced differently a few times then yea maybe 1-2 title appearances/ wins. They're steady, just haven't crossed the hump yet.

Arena League Lorenzen would make Meadows look like Kate Moss. Rip Pillsbury Throw Boy

That’s a good comparison if Meadows were QB. Lorenzen was a huge guy. Sad he died so young.

Nope, fumble in the red zone with the opportunity to go up two touchdowns and punter calling his own fake from the goal line was what killed Union.

Your right they where running a 1-1-9 defense during practice today. So Graham should be focusing on a run game this week. Also on offense Union will run a single wing offense with Lomax the QB. So anyone on here from Graham please don't let the coaching staff no this 🙏

By the time he had developed some talent at marion they were solid, competing with some of the more traditional power schools in the region.
The difference i believe you'll begin to see in the spring when those kids get involved in track. He coached that also so I assume he is there. Between learning to run and a good year of lifting they'll be improved. Numbers should pick up too. A few other schools should take some notes. He's a modern coach, with old school work ethic and I hope it's contagious.

I think it's because after the last guy they had 0 offensive/defensive identity. Anything resembling an offensive scheme would look great compared to where they were. With that being said, Lee is making due with what is available but after this season I believe they will continue to make big strides. Partly because they were so bad that any improvement seems monumental and partly because they are getting a much more structured plan that will be the groundwork for the next few years. As luck would have it, east mont game put them in the playoffs, hoping for a full regular schedule next season.
Good luck to both G&U

There are several "natural" hold-backs in the region. Some need it done don't, but it's for different reasons. In the end who cares?

At this point, nobody should be able to survive 14pt deficit within the first 5 min of a game. Stakes too high, only good teams left. 2 different styles but as far as diversity goes, I think Graham and union have things they're great at and things they're not. Against each other, should be another great one. Most games come down to doing the basics well. Ball control, special teams, turnovers, tackling, etc. Won't even mention time management lol. Both got hit late by in the waning seconds with scores to close. Good luck to both, either will do great if they can pull off 2D.
