The Union (PV) model is something you'd think some of these other programs would adopt as Union, PV and Appalachia are the gold standard for football in SWVA.  They get quality coaching for a short season, and don't burn the kids out like some other youth programs.  3rd-7th grade kids don't need to be playing football from August 1-November 1, and you can't convince me otherwise.  I just don't see how others don't see that and model their programs accordingly.

Richlands returns their entire squad, but it must have been disappointing as most thought it was their year this year. I'm not sure Abingdon will ever has as good a team as they had this year, and Mark Daniels will always have Virginia High in the mix. He is the best baseball coach in SWVA.

Union is not to blame for that fiasco.  Visiting bands go on the field when the home school tells them to.

So close for Richlands, Virginia High, and Abingdon, yet so far away.  I was hoping all 3 could bring back a state title in 2018.
Richlands returns their entire squad, but it must have been disappointing as most thought it was their year this year. I'm not sure Abingdon will ever has as good a team as they had this year, and Mark Daniels will always have Virginia High in the mix. He is the best baseball coach in SWVA.

For the most part, baseball comes down to tradition and coaching.  Usually, the same teams are at or near the top every year, even when they are down on talent.  These teams usually have a pretty good fan base too.  
As for comparing the posters on this board vs. the football board, football allows a lot more participants, draws bigger crowds, and makes for more arm-chair quarterbacks.  It takes a more knowledge and interest to be a true baseball fan.  
As a side note, I wonder how this weather and the postponements, along with the strict pitching rules will effect high school baseball this spring.  Not many games have been played thus far, which means 3-5 games per week from here on out for several teams.  I think we will end up seeing a bunch of games like the one GC and Eastside played yesterday, with 20 walks and several HBP.  

I'm glad someone from GC can remind us, I had almost forgotten that no one from GC ever does anything wrong.  What was I thinking???

You lose credibility when you say McClung shot 27 free throws when he only shot 15.  It just indicates we can't believe much of what you say.  And what the Wise coach did or didn't do didn't have any relevance to the GC-Abingdon game.

Honaker boys can beat Eastside?   That's a stretch.

Still don't see how Parry McCluer is even in this topic.  They are not in Southwest Virginia, as they are 60 miles past Roanoke heading up 81.

You have to be able to defend to beat good teams. Gate City used to be known for their tenacious defense, but that has dropped off considerably the past few seasons.

I've never seen a fan base yet of a successful team that people didn't think was arrogant, Union included.  It goes with the territory.  Also, you are not going to have much of a fan base if you have a losing team.  #fact of life #2

How was Union's shift any different from the shift of a muddle huddle?   Probably none in my opinion.  I think the officials just blew the call because it was so unexpected.
