  1. What about the other players on the team, that played defense, dished out assist, crashed the boards and pulled down rebounds??? If you take those playing defense, dishing out assist, and pulling down rebounds, do you still win the ballgame? I don't think so, there is no I in TEAM, but with those statements it makes you wonder how the head coach feels about his team!! Am I the only one that thinks this statement to the paper could cause some problems inside the team? Everybody knows that McAmis and Hayes are your dominant scorers, but there is more to basketball than just scoring 43 points in a game........... I am pretty sure that the rest of the players on the team, wanted to win just as much as the next........I don't see how you question a kids heart and passion when they give so much time to the team, and still fought to win the game. How does everyone else feel about this?
  2. Personally I have not seen Lee High this year, but I have seen Central. Central is very experienced and very long. They start 5 seniors, and have 2 seniors coming off the bench along with some under class men that all are capable of playing good ball and giving the Warriors good minutes. They are very physical and play good help defense, and all 5 starters are capable of knocking down shots and scoring at any given time. Central probably will be a little tired from the trip to Florida and the Arby's Classic, but I don't see them letting this one slip by them. Central by 10 to 12. Better guard Hayes and McCamis tough, either kid is liable to go for 30+ on any given night. I agree with you Burrell's Pearls, I hope the officiating is pretty good in this one, like you said could be a very physical game.
  3. 38 to 34, Central down with about 7 minutes in the 4th to go
  4. Central boys playing Uniontown Area High School out of Pennsylvania, they are down starting the 4th quarter. Not sure exactly on the score Central really struggled shooting the ball in the 1st half, but have picked it up in the 3rd quarter.
  5. Matt is a great kid, and a very hard nosed football player. Love watching him this year play the game he loves. He never backed down from a challenge, and showed what he was capable of during this All-Star game. Proud of him for finishing his high school career strong.
  6. Central beat John Battle 60-44, Behind a big game from Elijah Hayes with 23, the rest of the scoring was McCamis with 21, Bishop with 7, Allison with 5, and Trey Mullins with 4 points. Central girls also won but not sure on the final score of that game. Centrals Boys and Girls travel to Orlando today to start playing in the KSA Holiday tournament tomorrow on 12/19/19. I heard the game at Gate City was pretty rough last night..........seems like it is going to be that way throughout the M7 this year, hopefully nothing crazy happens.

    M7 champs

Its a christian school, not sure why they are playing them. They are leaving December 18th to travel to Florida to play in a tournament through December 22. Then they will be playing in the Arby's Classic this year as well.

    M7 champs

Central on paper should be the top pick. How that plays out will be seen. They have not been impressive in their first two games, one being the benefit against Lebanon, and the other at Twin Springs. Central plays KACHEA tonight at Central, and I plan to check it out, I agree with the post that said if they play team ball they can compete and possibly win the M7! If it is the same way it has been in years past, the will under achieve based on the talent and experience they have. GC obviously has to be picked to win the M7, how many years have they won it consecutive? Until someone knocks them off, how can you not consider them the favorite?
  10. Owens definitely got shafted on Coach of the Year! Mullins or Turner didnt do anything other than what was expected. Owens proved all the haters wrong, by having the best season in Central history and advancing to the Region D championship! Definitely need to change the way this is voted on or selected!!! Not taking away nothing from Mullins or Turner, but this absolutely blows my mind!!
  11. I figured they reimbursed some, but wasn't for sure if it was enough to cover the full cost or not. I know with the old playoff system sometimes teams where having to travel the day before the game and stay in a hotel because it was such a long drive, and that I am sure got pretty expensive. When having to provide lodging, meals, for approximately 50 to 60 kids and coaches, plus gas for buses or paying a charter bus for travel. Not sure if any high school teams have boosters that raise and provide money for this type of thing. My personal opinion is that the VH$L needs to stop being so money hungry, when we all know they are making a killing already.
  12. Thank you Cheryll Ellis, I have watched your Facebook Live streams of the games and it is a wonderful job. It does not surprise me that the VH$L, is finding a way to make money off of this, but that is sad. The VH$L makes enough money off of these games anyway, with getting all the gate money from the games, and not allowing the schools playing in these games any money from the gate. Does the VH$L give any money to the schools for travel, lodging, or food for teams having to travel and stay over night to play in the State Semifinals or the State Championship games?
  13. I have not seen or heard anything about this. I know the last weather forecast I had seen was giving a lot of rain for this weekend, but don't know if that is true. I highly doubt it considering the Emory & Henry field is turf and shouldn't be bothered by some rain! If it is I wish we could find out and get it confirmed so I could listen to it on the radio!
  14. Central has improved as the season has progressed. They have 3 running backs that are capable of breaking a big run at any point and time. Crabtree and Bolling both are special backs and a key to Centrals success. Not sure of the other kids name that plays RB, but he is a hard nosed kid that runs downhill as well. The passing game is not the best I have ever seen, but can't produce a few plays here and there. As much as I would like to see Central win, I think experience steps in and leads Graham to the win. Central is young, and has made a statement this year, and will be a very exciting team to watch for the next few years. With that being said I am gonna go with Graham 35 Central 20. Good Luck to both teams, and I hope and pray its a clean, injury free ball game!
  15. Thoughts and Predictions on this game? Burton has been really impressive since losing the first two games of the year, and seem to just keep getting better as the year goes on. They definitely will have their hands full come Saturday at Emory & Henry. Any word on Browns status? I thought I seen that he was out for the Holston game? Good Luck to both teams!! I will be pulling for Coach Caudill and the Raiders on Saturday, bring the Region D Championship on back to Norton.
  16. Hahaha nah, I finally let it go after 18 years haha.... What might have been........2 yards away of putting the game away in the 2nd quarter right before the half..... I still to this day have not watched that game film......I'm getting more curious, and wanting to watch it now!!!
  17. BigWinners, 2001 was a year that Gate City knocked Powell Valley out in the Region D championship, after losing to them in OT I. the regular season. Although their records were close then and that Gate City team was tough as they come! If Union don't out fired up and ready to play, Gate City has the chance to pull the upset!!! You can bet your A** on it that Houseright has this team fired up and ready to play and all of them believing they will leave the Park with a win!
  18. The playoff system is broken, and I think everyone in this area is aware of that. I am no genius, but there has to be a better system that could be put in place to find the best High School football team in their division. I played in the late 90s and early 00s and it was unheard of for a team with a losing record to make the playoffs, and sometimes possible for a team 9-1 or 8-2 to miss the playoffs. No system is perfect, and that has been proven over time. I feel until $$$$ is not the top priority we will continue to see the broken playoff system used. Number of students plays a huge determining factor with where a team is placed in a division, and all over SWVA, numbers are declining due to our biggest industry being coal and a lot of those jobs have went away. How often are the numbers looked at and compared? It is not only the high school football playoff system that is broke, it is pretty bad for all sports. It needs to be fixed so we are not handing out participation trophies and being soft to make sure everyone doesn't get left out. I am sure some of these #7 and #8 seeds are thinking do we really have to go and play another week, knowing what they are up against. Sometimes upsets happen, but in all reality do you really think the kids on those teams think they have a chance to win a 1st round game, region championship, or a state championship?
  19. I honestly think their could be a few upsets in the Region 2D. Richlands and Central will be a good game, Richlands has improved over the season and Central has too, and from what I hear they are all healthy. This game could turn into a dog fight and could go either way in my opinion. I also see Union having a tough game against Gate City. Everybody is gunning to stop Polier, and with some injuries that the Bears have it could make for a very interesting game. We all know Union's Defense is very stingy against the run, but if a team can complete a few passes and get something going through the air, it could be a long Friday night at Bullitt Park. In Region 1D, Can Patrick Henry finally make something happen and come out with a State Championship? I really don't see any upsets this week, although we never know how things will go, especially this time of year. Good Luck to all the teams competing in the playoffs this year, and I hope and pray we have a good Friday and Saturday of good clean football, and no injuries for any players involved!
  20. That could be good or bad, most of James Colley's Haysi teams were very good football teams from what I can remember. All I can say is Paintsville better be ready for the ground and pound game and hope they are in good condition. If Union can control the ball, and have some long drives and come away with points, I think they wear Paintsville down and pull away late into the game. Sure glad this thing is being played at the park, and not in Kentucky. I went to a few games down in Breathitt Co, and BIGWINNERS was along for the ride on a couple of occasions, and it was some of the craziest stuff we had ever seen.
  21. I agree BigWinners, definitely proved me wrong!!! Shows what kind of heart and tradition comes from Appalachia and Big Stone Gap!! Congrats to the Coach Turner and the Bears!!!
  22. First play of the game Rye Cove scores on a Hardin #9 65 yard TD!!

  24. Sounds like a mess up at Letcher County......seems like it always is when the Bears travel over there.......get them off the schedule and find a team that plays with class and respect, win or lose!!
