Injury bug seems to hit them pretty hard every year and with a small roster that makes things tough. The early 3 wins should help as far as post season goes with VA High lee  and Lebanon sitting with 0 wins and battle also having key injuries should be a battle with Gate city Marion and Tazewell for those last few spots and the southwest district is down compared to mountain 7 this year gate city could out point the other two just on strength of schedule. So I guess the battle for the ugly dragon trophy could decide that last spot.

Battles defense will be the best that PH has faced to date, even with the injuries, but the offense is having a hard time moving the ball. Hopefully for battle have had a good week of practice and have made progress but the game may be lower scoring than people think. Brown just needs to break 2 runs for scores and they will be fine. I hate to hear that about #20 though he’ll of a ball player.

It's possible because of the points system, but if Battle were to get the nod over Marion despite losing head-to-head, it would just go to show how broken the system is.

I’m not gonna lie I did not think the Adkins kid was worth all the hype when I first saw him. That was his freshman year but most guys that are D1 you tell at that age. Looking at him now.. WOW I’m able to admit when I’m wrong and boy was I wrong I look forward to watching this kid play on Saturdays I just hope it’s not in Knoxville I hope he is smarter than that

From what I’ve seen central names the score. Va high has some team speed but not what they have had in the past and their size isn’t good size. They are big but don’t move well. Centrals D may pitch a shut out the way the fly around to the football

I’m not at all calling them De La Salle you are right that is dumb.. the whole reason I posted what I did in the first place is to make the point Richlands problem isn’t scheme Mance is one of the best in the business when it comes to take so completely changing offense is absolutely crazy and shine light on why the spread works and so many people run it. As far as your 2 questions I wasn’t comparing them and I’ve only been in the area for one of those finals appearances and IMO Appo 5 scores better than Richlands that year. They have athletes far more athletes and that makes a world of difference.

@redtiger I’ve enjoyed the conversation. I like running the ball more than most people on this board I like prefer doing it with less box players. Even if a team has 9 in the box with 2 high (which makes no since to me but whatever) you still need 9 guys to execute vs  6 with high school kids I like my chances. I guess we will just have to disagree

For all the praise on Union's three yards and cloud of dust offense, it's produced zero state titles while Graham, running a more wide open offense, has the hardware. That's not a knock on Union at all.
Unions problems happen if they fall behind, it's tough to make up multiple scores if you lack the ability to put up points quick. 12-play, ten minute scoring drives are fantastic if you're winning or tied, but if you're down 21-7 in the second half, those drives hurt you. Union was a better team than Appomattox in 2017, but they fell behind early and ran out of time coming back. If you can run the ball consistently, great. But you have to be able to attack a defense in multiple ways unless you're so much more talented than the opposition.

And that's what you have to do. It's easy to coach from the stands. We don't always know what's gone on at practice all week or where a kid's head is at game time. We do need to trust that the coaching staff is doing the best job they can with the kids they have. Well, until they go 1-9 back to back. Then, we chase them out of town with torches and pitch forks! Lol

Agreed blue 72. Anyone that want to run that man out of Richlands is out of their mind! Or a fan of another team trying to stir things up. If your team has to play for championships every year or you want the coach gone move to Riverheads or jump on the Alabama Clemson or Patriots band wagon.

I was very impressed with RV up front but I havnt seen them since they lost 2 of their lineman. Wise Central has a sneaky good front 7 they are big but they fly around like crazy and I not easily blocked. I’m not calling for an upset but don’t under estimate this Central team I think it will be a close one if Atkins can do what he usually does then they win but this will be his toughest test this season for sure

Honestly WHO CARES if Isaiah pushed somebody or if the coach told this one or that one to foul him or her or it.... none of those kids are playing in this game tomorrow night. If you want to argue about basketball go somewhere else and do it. This is a thread about the game. I hate getting on here and seeing people bring up junk that has NOTHING TO DO with the current players and the current game. Got a prediction? Got insight on the offense or defense or strategy? Let's hear it. Otherwise hash out the things that don't matter on Topix or some other low budget rednecked toilet water site. We come on here because we are interested in SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA FOOTBALL.

You've only posted 9 times and you come out with this!  No Mance should coach at Richlands until HE feels its time to hang it up.  We've all been spoiled by the last 10 years or so of winning, and many feel that if a Mance coached team doesn't win every game he should hang it up. Back in my time at Richlands, (many, many, moons ago) we felt good if we won 3 or 4 games a year, and many times we gauged our teams not by wins, but by how well we played Gate City or Bluefield.  I remember getting beat by both teams by several points and saying we had a good game.  We Richlands fans have focused so mush on win, win, win, and have sometimes forgotten that a winning season is so much sweeter after a loosing season.  I for one don't enjoy loosing, but I've noticed over the years that SWVA talent comes and goes in cycles, and Richlands talent is on the down side of that cycle, not the fault of coaching, or the effort of the players, just the same old usual talent cycle.  As Arron Rodgers told the Packers fans a few years ago, "Stay Calm".  Mance is still the best coach for the Blues and will be until he decides to walk away, and then we can be in the stands wishing we had him back, and remembering how good a coach he was.

If Giles can control the ball this game may be closer than expected. I don’t see the G MAN having to punt but if they only get 5 possessions then 35-14 is a respectable score I think. That single wing is a pain in the butt they will break a few off on Graham

Guys there is no such thing as transitive property in sports. Just because team A beat team B and team B beat team C does not mean that team A beats team C every time. That’s like if Tennessee was able to pull off some upset against let’s say Florida. That does not mean that Georgia State would beat Florida. Anything can happen in this crazy game that’s why we play the game

I agree 100% De La Salle won 151 games in a row running the split back veer I promise you they didn’t change their offense after that first Mance is probably the winningest active coach in the area if he thinks Richlands should be in the spread I would stand by that as a fan base and not want to change everything after a 3 point game

But it is simple math, if you can run against a 7 or 8 man box as opposed to a 9 or ten man box, you'll have more room just on principle before taking into account the talent on the OL, opposing defensive talent, runners, etc..

I won't get into the debate of which formation is better because at the HS level, your personnel should really dictate that. And a good coach will adapt their offense to best take advantage of their players' skill set. Round peg, round hole concept. No one offense will work at every school. Richlands and Giles are perfect examples because they are on complete opposites of the spectrum. Giles has been running the single wing forever. Some years they're great, some years they're good and some years they're not. Offense is the same year in and year out. Only the players change. Everyone knows what they're running, but in the great years, nobody can stop them.
Richlands has run the spread for, what, 15 years or so? Same as Giles, great, good and not so good years. The offense has stayed the same, but the players are different each year. Sometimes you have the players to run the offense of your choice and sometimes you don't. When you have athletes and speed everywhere, spread them out and force them to match up. When you have 5 - 6'5", 300 lb lineman and 230 lb RBs, cram it down their throat.
Looking at Giles and Richlands, who both have great, long tenured coaches, proves that success has more to do with getting your talent in the right position to succeed rather than any particular offensive scheme. Now, when you're talking about college or NFL, where you can pick your talent, a whole different argument can be made.

The whole point of the spread offense is to spread people out. It is a lot easier to to run the football against a 5 or 6 man box that is just a fact. Richlands has the ability to go 10 personnel and run for 200 yards a game because usually have one of the best passing attacks in swva because Mance does a great job with the pass concepts and 7 on 7 in the summer. I get the old school idea of you need 2 TE and a FB in the game or you can’t run the ball because that’s what swva is use to but here is a little math for you 5 lineman + 2 TE + 2 backs + 1 QB = 10 players guess how many defensive players you have in the box... 10 and you eliminate all the fancy Q runs that you can do out of the spread to account for that last defender you can block if you have a 6 man box. I would rather take my chances with 5 guys blocking perfect than trying to block 10 people any day of the week. This is all just my opinion though I’m just a young buck that likes a fast paced wide open offense that shows the coach’s creativity instead of 3 yards and a cloud of dust of running the same 4 plays over and over and over again..

Yes that’s what I’m saying. I would put money on it that if you got to a Marion PH or GW games at 6:45 you would have time to grab a hot dog and get to your seat before kick off not the case at Chilhowie. Chilhowie also graduated 18 seniors and still rolling. But now that I think about it you are right they arnt the next Richlands Graham or Union because they don’t need tazewell or J.I. Burtons best players to be dominant
