There are going to be two duck ponds at the Graham location for the drainage. It shouldn’t impact the homes across the street or cause any runoff affecting properties in the area.
VH beats Graham in yet, another close one down to the wire finish. 62-60
Graham came out 2nd half & made a game of it, They battled back all night but came up short. Great season for them and they get everyone back next year. Congratulations to Virginia High.
I agree no way on the shot. But graham should’ve ended that game in regulation. Once again the best shooter don’t play the 4th for Graham but plays very solid minutes in 3qtrs Head shaker !! Freshman but deadly
My point is the clock operator did not start the clock at the exact time the ball touched the player’s hand. I know he got it off but that has nothing to do with time should have already ran out. Yeah, crazy keeping Disibbio on bench entire 4thQ.
I was at the game. There is no way that player got the shot off in 2 seconds. He bobbled the ball, hit his hands, the ball fell to the floor, he dribbled it and shot it, There’s no way he did all that in 2 seconds. Refs didn’t check the clock. They ran off the floor and fans ran on the floor.
I would tell you to watch on NFHS but the game between the Graham boys & Marion boys has been taken down. The girls' game is still up. Who takes down games? Does NFHS? If so, why would they take it down? If not them, then does the host school take down games? If the host school takes down games, then I think we can guess why Marion took it down. Honestly, you couldn't really surmise what actually happened from the NFHS feed but I've heard there's another video that clearly shows the coach intentionally pushed the Graham player. I haven't seen it though. I was at the game and it 100% happened. The officials discussed at length what they were going to do. The coach was called for only a technical. If I were the administration at Graham I'd be filing a complaint with the VHSL. No high school coach should lay his hands on a player especially a player from the opposing team.
For the first time in Bland County basketball history, Danielle Sanders (granddaughter of the Joe Stiltner, Bland Rocket basketball standout in the 70s) set the record for most blocks in a girls' game with 14. The previous record was 10 set by her. She also achieved the first triple double in the history of BC basketball with 14 points, 16 rebounds, and 14 blocks in a victory against Grayson County. Bland plays Galax tomorrow night. She's a junior who's probably about 6' 4". I think Joe Stiltner was somewhere around 6' 9" tall. Congratulations to this young lady!
The state championship was held last week in Christiansburg. Graham's defense held Radford in check better than any other team this season sacking Clark several times, plus two interceptions I believe, and holding the passing yards/rushing yards to lowest all season.
Riverheads couldn't step up when it mattered most. Congratulations to Coach Crist and the Bobcats for completing that elusive perfect season that not many teams achieve.
I am going to put this baby to bed, Dennis Palmer is not going back to Richlands even if Ronnie Davis is the new head coach. The Palmers are happy at Graham. We've had this conversation and it doesn't matter the wording of the question, the answer is a resounding , "No"..He's not going anywhere.
Matt Dixon said after the game today that the state semifinal with Radford would be 2pm next Saturday in Christiansburg. I would presume that's accurate.
Most of the schools in SWVA would start in Class D. John Battle, Marion, Virginia, Central, Gate City, Union, Lee, Richlands, and Abingdon would start in Class C (as would Appomattox). Pulaski County would start in Class B. Patrick Henry (Roanoke) is the westernmost school that would start in Class A. Over time, most of the SWVA schools would find themselves clumped back together in Class C and Class D. The historically strong programs (Graham, Union) would probably find themselves in Class B over time, with a possible foray or two into Class A should there be a run of athletes like Graham has had over the last 5-6 years. It would also create some special seasons for schools like Tazewell. Imagine the 2023 Bulldogs, who should be pretty good, playing in a Class without having to face Ridgeview, Radford, Graham, Riverheads, or any of the teams above in Class C in the playoffs. It gives each school the opportunity to excel if they are closer to the top of their Class. Further, teams in Class C and Class D can play each other, though it would benefit Class D teams more than Class C.
Don't some of the 2A teams like Graham already play teams in higher classifications? Why should they be put in the highest classification system under your proposal if they already play "up" so to speak? I get everyone wants their team to have a "special season" but I don't see the issue with the current system of classification. To help they could combine 5A & 6A without upsetting the apple cart too much but putting weaker 2A teams in a lower classification to keep them from playing stronger teams isn't a solution in my opinion. it seems like "everybody needs a trophy" mentality or at least my team should get the trophy by playing down but that's just me. I'm not trying to argue or begrudge any team a successful season but find a way to be successful within the confines of the present system until that changes. The main issue (once again my opinion) is the number of teams in the playoffs. It's too many but then again like @stu_bean said, it gives those bottom teams an opportunity to play one more game for the Seniors even if they are most probably going to get slaughtered.
Grahams line is the engine that makes them go!! Best south of Roanoke and probably top 5 in state in all classes. plug in any running back and they will be successful with the holes those guys blast open.
I don't know I'd say they're top 5 in the state across all classes but I would certainly say they are the cream of the crop in 2A and possibly against a lot of teams in higher classes. They definitely had a ground and pound running game last night and making holes for their guys to run through all evening. There was zero need for a passing game last night and I think the GMEN just completely wore the Bearcats down. It will be interesting to see how the GMEN fair against a better Pulaski team than they faced last year with still a couple of key players out. If last night is any indication, GMEN have great adaptability some of which surprised many last night.
They will still be missing a couple, will get a couple back. If they play like they did tonight, I like their chances. Can't wait for next week, PC likes to run a power game, could be an old fashioned slobber knocker.
The O Line & D Line were strong tonight even with several playing different positions and missing serveral. The players that had to take up the slack with others missing, did very well. I was impressed with the overall performance of on both sides of the ball. Anyone who said, Graham couldn't win this one without Clements, was wrong. I'm not saying Graham beats a RIdgeview with a number of players out but this team tonight came out to make a statement and they certainly did. The coaches had those boys prepared. A lot of those kids got great experience tonight which should serve them and the team well. Congratulations, GMen!
If you're considering great defensive coaches, you would have to include Dennis "Snake" Palmer on that list. He coached at Richlands for several years as defensive coordinator and has coached at Graham since 2018. I know the 2018 Graham defense was pretty nasty and I'm sure there were several Richlands' teams during his tenure that were tough on defense also. There may be some former players from Richlands that can share their thoughts on which years had the best defenses. I do know for the longest time Richlands was known much more their defensive capabilities than offense.
Bland County is no longer able to field a team because several players quit according to local sources. I hope it's not true but I guess we'll know soon enough.
I know I'm going to stir the pot by saying this but I do ask this question in all sincerity.
How can you say a team is well coached when they are riddled with penalties, especially PF types. To me that is on the coaches to nip those in the bud and make sure they don't happen excessively. As far as procedural penalties go, to me that goes on coaches as well. I know penalties are going to happen on a few occasions but anything excessive is something to be coached and worked on.
I stand by my statement that Graham is well coached. They hold their players accountable for what happens in a game. As someone else said, Graham practices pretty intensely and that probably shows up on the field sometimes. I'll intense any day over lackadaisical but that's just me.
Line play will be the determining factor. If Graham is penalty ridden and turns it over several times, it might be a different score but GMen do well in the trenches. They are well coached, athletic, conditioned, & consistent with the weight room. Tazewell may be also, I don't know. Graham's OL/DL are very good this year with some depth. I think that will be key this game.
I hope Graham wins the State Title !Then it will time for Snake and Ronnie to come home .
I highly doubt either of them will return to Richlands. Snake lives close to Bluefield, VA and his daughter goes to GIS and his wife works in Bland County. I don't see them relocating back to the western end of the county with 100% certainty. I do agree that I hope Graham wins the state title! Ring #4 for Snake if that happens!

Negative. Richlands had their chance with them. They have a new home now. Snake and Ronnie are here to stay!
I think both are very satisfied where they are and have been accepted with open arms by the Graham family, coaches, players, parents, and faculty/staff at GHS. They aren't going anywhere. They have found their home with Graham.
Wishing Appomattox safe travels today for team and fans making the trip to the Bluefields & I'm sure you'll find the area beautiful and the folks hospitable. Hopefully, an injury free and fair game for both teams! With that saId, "Go Gmen!" Give 'em all you got and bring home the win!
Are there any games left next week that will affect seeding for playoffs in 1D & 2D or is it pretty much set now? I know I read maybe in another thread that SWD was Graham, VA High, Richlands, & Tazewell while M7 due to losses last night for Union & Ridgeviewl would be Central, Union, RIdgeview, & Gate City. I just wondered if this was set in stone or if there were rider points maybe for the final regular season games that might change something. Will round 1 games be on a Friday night or Saturday afternoon? Is that up to the hosting school?
Pulaski replaced the Bluefield game so its off the board
I don't think any team is going to play on a Friday and then play Bluefield on a Monday or Tuesday and then play their regular game on Friday of that week too.
