I'm not going to comment in a public forum about kids making regrettable decisions as kids.  Something we have all done at some time in our lives.  I hope others share the same philosophy.

I felt comfortable speaking of suspensions in general terms given the radio guys discussed it Friday night and it has been all over social media.  That is as far as I will take it.

Tennessee just announced they are going with the traditional jerseys. Thank you Dave Hart!

I think everyone is more concerned about the plays in space.  Its a reason why rules have shifted in the game to protect against those actions. That said, these types of protective gear just dont do anything to help those types of contact really.

With regards to sexual registry offenses, the judge would direct the clerk. For anything else, it is felonious for court officials to release information regarding juveniles.

I see more of a possible use for them with lineman than elsewhere.  There really isnt much scientific evidence to show that these are truly effective, especially for the more violent hits most people associate with concussions.  I think they possibly help more with the repetitive head contact lineman to produce though.

The lack of medical attention is the biggest red flag to me. If it was done the way they were accused, there's no way there wasn't an injury. I fell horrible for this 11 year old.

As someone currently in the media business I question the integrity of the reporter as much as anyone in this instance.

Had the accusers not been athletes, this would not be a story at all.

Gotta feel sorry for the victim wholeheartedly never the less.

I get parent frustration when being forced into such an ordeal more than you may imagine, believe me!

But as a parent, you have to do what is in the long term best interest of your child.  Having them front and center on the 6 o'clock news isn't in that child's best interest.  The first call should have been to law enforcement and the second should have been lining up interviews with qualified therapists with extensive backgrounds in helping kids who have been victimized.  At the end of the day, your child is all that matters.  Get them the help they will need to cope with the situation.  Nothing else really matters.

In my opinion, felony charges should lead to suspension of all extra curricular activity privileges for all public school students until the issue is resolved.  Unfortunately, that is often not the case.  Typically, those kids committing felonies are often the most aggressive and have the most to offer an athletic program, therefore, it is "overlooked" by all involved.

However, these article(s) read as much more of an indictment on the Scott County Clerks Office than the Gate City School System.

The parents of the 11 year old boy should be strung up by their collective balls for allowing that kid to be interviewed on television.  Based on the information at hand, it's reasonable to assume rational, reasonable and responsible parenting isn't a strong suit in that household!

They both received supervised probation for taking a plea deal of a lesser charge. It said the clerk had 15 days to inform the school system and failed to do so. There seems to be a lot of different stories out about it. It's difficult to talk about when it involves minors. I just know I couldn't put an 11 year old child on the news to be interviewed.

It isnt good, but its more of smear piece for relating it like they have.  The biggest issue should be the lack of accountability in the juvenile clerks department.

Fortunately, those days are gone.  I've read too many stories of kids collapsing  of heat stroke or heat exhaustion, sometimes with tragic outcomes.  Back in those days, you probably didn't hear about it as much.  Above all, the safety of the kids should always be first and foremost.

They have been working diligently to get the work completed.  It will be a down-to-the-wire timeline but one I believe they can achieve.  The new superintendent seems much more capable of generating community support and fosters a sense of pride that SWVA is famous for within its school districts.  That has been lacking in Grayson County for quite some time.  The previous two superintendents were terribly divisive.

On that note, Grayson has hired John Ayers as the new boys basketball coach.  I, for one, couldn't applaud the move more.  Great person and equally great coach.  He was the varsity boys coach at Grayson in the 90's and influenced my brother in ways that can't be described in this space.

I feel like I am thread jacking a bit here and this thread has gotten off topic somewhat.  I only mention the basketball coach in an effort to show how the new administration seems intent on bringing back the community driven support that was once here.

It's  perfect storm for all involved, really.  A lot of the student body live within walking distance of the school and recreation center.  Those who don't have parents who work near downtown.  The overwhelming majority of Galax students have extraordinarily easy access to five gyms, two weight rooms, and a bevy of athletic fields.  That is a huge advantage for any coaching staff.

Galax even won a national award for "Safe Route to School" walking programs.

sixcat, I doubt Coach would go with me anywhere lol but I appreciate the comment.

With the addition and execution of some simple passing concepts Galax could move the ball on just about anybody in VA from 3A down. The things youre saying about their OL are 100% true. Ive seen Galax play 5 times in the past few years with the best being at JIB last year. I sat pretty close and got to see him coach up the OL during the game. Im not talking about yelling "block better!" or something like that, im talking about subtle nuances in technique/steps/positioning. It was very impressive.

Watching film is really important for a zone blocking OL. Zone is all about working together to achieve a task, not simply doing your job so being able to understand what the Defense is trying to do and where they are going to be makes everything flow smoother up front which means more and bigger gaps which means 16,000 yards in 3 seasons.
