“Really, this is outside the school setting,†he said. “This was outside of our school’s volleyball team.â€

I for one am tired of all of the Tazewell bashing.  The man is 66 years old.  He can give them 2 or 3 years at best and I think he realized that he can't put the time in to rebuild a program.  I think he means exactly what he said and there's nothing to read into it.  I hope Tazewell gets somebody young and energetic who is willing to put in the time.  There is nothing wrong with Tazewell that isn't wrong with most other small schools.  They haven't had a ton of talent.  It was only 2 short years ago that they wiped the field with Graham.... they are very young and it's going to take time.  The Middle School program is taking off and that will help, but those kids coming up are just in the 9th grade.

Graham had only 18 kids come out for Middle School Football last year, seems like they have some work to do as well...  Let's not expect any miracles to take place from anybody, either.  Sometimes you have to face facts and realize that maybe you don't have a lot of talent coming through right now and need to be patient.  Lord knows as a Graham fan, we had to suffer through about 12 years of Sub Par football.  A lot of that had to do with coaching....but Graham had a TON of talent last season.

My point was that with kids doing different sports and some doing two at a time, it's hard for them to specifically stay at weight lifting in which Colobro was monitoring. Tazewell doesn't have the number of kids to have a solid 50+ constantly lifting, the 20+ didn't satisfy his reasoning to stay. After 3 months I can't see the reasoning of just leaving, if it was personal reasons that's fine but to preach to the students that came everyday about dedication and building a better program then leave is just unprofessional IMO.

Alright folks, let's give Tazewell a break. It will turn around soon enough.  May take a little time, they will still be young and most of their talent will very young.  Hopefully they won't give it up and stick it out and they'll be back before you know it.  Consistency is what they need.  Besides, Colobro didn't coach one single down this season and the other coaches were leading the weight lifting, so they are still in the same situation they were in at the end of the season, without a head coach.  There were several highly quality coaches who applied for the position, including some very good college ball players.  I think they need somebody young and enthusiastic who will get the kids out, that's what it's all about anyway, getting the kids to buy in and come out and play.  Colobro would have been there for 2 or 3 years max...

    My opinion:

    1. They don't belong in the Mid South Conference, they are way out of their league.  That is one of the best NAIA Conferences in the country, if not the best.
    2.  Fans are not going to come watch them lose all of the time.
    3.  Very few local athletes are recruited to play there.
    4.  There is a tremendous amount of player turnover, which leads to inconsistency.

I believe they should either change conferences and start playing teams more their speed, or drop the football program altogether.  Not a lot of fan support attending these games.

This community is football CRAZY.  If they are in a league in which they can be competitive and they recruit a few local athletes, attendance would be up....and they would get more "w" s.

The Athletic Director and the President of the College need to get on the ball and try to turn this thing around or just drop the football program completely.  It has to be losing money for the school, there is no way that it is profitable.

Start recruiting kids based on athleticism and character... I won't go into details about that, just had a bad experience on campus last weekend and I'll leave it at that.

What does everybody think?  It's been a few years now that football has been back at Bluefield College.  I just think it could have and should have been done differently.

Can they play as an independent and pick up teams more their speed?

Not that getting to go to College to play football is a bad thing....

I tend to believe reasons for kids to transfer are quite a bit more selfish than just getting recognized.  Either their Dad wants their kid to be part of a "winner"... or the kid does.
Immediate Gratification has become a cancer in our society.  People must have what they want right now or they are not satisfied.  Just go try to stand in a line at the grocery store for 5 minutes and you'll see what Im talking about.  Look at all of the people starting to get upset because they are not the center of the cashier's universe at that moment.  People in our society are SPOILED and that's what it boils down to, in my opinion.

You don't have to go to a good 2A school in SWVA, if you are currently on bad 1A school.... not much of a difference in the eyes of College Scouts...

As EH said, you have to be an advocate for yourself, get your name out there on a highlight tape, attend camps and combines and get yourself recognized.  Who would have ever thought that Hard Work, dealing with adversity and determination should be what these young kids are learning from this sport?

    Agree 100%.

With the way recruiting is now if you're not on a big time college's radar before or during your junior year then you have a slim to none chance of them ever looking your way. You get on their radar by making a "good" highlight tape and getting it exposure and attending camps and combines during the off-season. Transferring to a more successful school in southwest Virginia for your senior year isn't helping your D1 dreams one damn bit.
