I wonder how many Martinsburg's coach has. He's obviously younger than Simon. His first season was 1997 and left for a few years to go to Concord but I could see him surpassing that at some point possibly,
Union can dream can’t they? Somebody should snatch up that Lebanon QB, I was very impressed by him against Graham. Honaker doesn’t need him but Richlands is just up 460 and they could definitely use him. If Richlands had him last year with the Brown kid, they’d had a much better season.
My sources tell me that Montcalm has given up 12 points this season. Are you providing us with false information? Kidding, not that it makes a difference 😂
Montcalm has scored 244 points this season and have only given up 6.
They are averaging 49 ppg on offense & 1 ppg on defense.
If you’re wondering why they have only played 5 games so far it’s because they have a game scheduled against Craig Co. later in the season on a Monday. They will play 10/20,10/23, & 10/27.
It looked like Virginia High agreed with some of the posts here and thought they would have the advantage up front and would be able to match up with Tazewell’s athletes on the outside.
The Bulldogs defensive front seven forced 20+ negative plays for Virginia High’s offense & forced 3 turnovers.
Virginia High’s defense ran a lot of single coverage on the outside receivers. Tazewell’s Logan McDonald finished with 9 catches for 211 yards & 2 touchdowns.
Ridgeview needs to drop Burton and pick up a 3A Kentucky team or grab Bluefield again. Grundy and Burton on the schedule is killing them. I agree with adding VHS but it should have been to replace Burton.
It’s not just about scheduling bigger or better teams, It’s about scheduling games that you know you can win against teams that can also win at least a few games.
for example -
this year’s Tazewell team lost to Riverheads and (3A) Princeton. The best case scenario if both of those teams win out they will have 19 wins between them.
Losing to those two teams nets you 33 points at the end of the season.
& on the other side -
Tazewell has beat Richlands & Grundy (2a points for both). Let’s say in the absolute worst case scenario those two teams finish with 1 win total.
Beating those two teams net you 38 points at the end of the season in that scenario.
Beating a 1-9 1A & 0-10 2A team is better than losing to a 9-1 2A & 10-0 3A team by 5 points.
Ridgeview (strictly talking about playoff seeding) wouldn’t benefit nearly as much by losing to a 6-4 Bluefield team as they would scheduling & beating teams like Twin Springs, Rye Cove, Eastside, etc.
Of course in a perfect world you want to play better competition to better your team but the current VHSL points format is not set up that way.
Agree. Also, keep in mind, Central Woodstock beat Riverheads the first game of the year and Cash did play for the most of that game.
Yeah he did, except for the drive that Riverheads needed to ice the clock and the last drive on defense. Riverheads is leading when he gets hurt and they lose when he goes out. So he did not play the two most important drives of the game.
Well.....its settled. Bluefield is wearing the ugliest uniforms of all time and beating the school record of mustard pants in the late 80s. Camo jerseys with black numbers and black pants. 🤮
Liam, however good Graham's is, then you will want to see Bluefield's. From what I told, Bluefield's Middle School took Graham apart a week or 2 ago. I don't know if this was 7th or 8th grade, etc, but Bluefield supposedly gave the GMEN middle schoolers their first loss in junior high in a while. But, don't quote me on that. I didn't see the game, and the info I got is from a Bluefield Beaver diehard fan I still play racquetball with occasionally.
Graham Middle has blown out every team other than Bluefield (loss 30-8) & a win over Tazewell (16-14)
