Tazewell looked flat last week.  The team, the fans the coaching staff all seemed flat. Coach Harris and the sophomore group still had the fire but like someone said earlier I think a few coaches and a lot of players turned it in at Richlands. The biggest thing I'm seeing from this team is the very talented freshman group has either quit or are standing around injured. Tazewell has the chance to be very good the next couple of years but they have to get something out of that group of freshmen because there are no juniors, the sophomores are talented but don't have enough numbers to do it alone, the freshman group should be loaded but only one of them is contributing anything at the moment and the 8th grade group coming is a very thin group numbers wise as well.
That being said I still think they might win a shoot out this week the sophmores are that good.

Will they really get all of those kids though? I get that the Drive Might be a bit better for some but the solid Athleats will they want to play for a team that is averaging 1 or 2 wins a season and will have much poorer athletic facilitys.
Add to that the fact that the whole GC coaching situation is described by there fans as a dumpster fire and there top choice as a replacement has been described as a "not a people person" kind of coach I just question how many people and what type of players that situation will attract.

When someone is used to mark time, they are usually pretty special at what they do.  Athletics as a whole in Galax are defined by Pre-Dixon and Post-Dixon!
I will let others research the lack of athletic achievement prior to his arrival in 2010 compared to what has been accomplished since his arrival.  And it's not just centered around football!

Anything beats the atrocity from a few years back with the Furman style logo. 

To be honest, that is what I wanted my original website to be like but I didn't have the time to put in the effort to do all that...that's how it ended up as a forum only.  Now, these guys have stepped up and have done a tremendous job in gathering information and putting it out there.  I will continue to be here, and hopefully, they'll continue doing what they are doing and these three sites will be the best you can find in Southwest VA and Southern WV.  I also have to give a ton of credit to VHSLhelper...what he does is also a tremendous addendum to everything that is here now!

I would bet Tazewell wanted it to draw some Richlands/Graham/Bluefield fans out to their game. They know fans are starved for football and will come there on a Thursday night since the only other game in the area is at Union that night. 

As for our personal situation, the dose of reality that we have accepted has been an overwhelmingly positive thing for our family.
My wife and I have never discussed our personal thoughts about college soccer directly with our son -- which is admittedly odd given the fact that I've posted a lot of very personal information about it here.  While we've always said that it was up to him, the attention that he was getting did inflate our own egos quite a bit and had begun to affect our view of the game.  Having confessed my own sin of pride, I have to say that there is actually a tremendous sense of relief and enhanced enjoyment of watching him play now.
Without saying so, I think our son's interest in playing soccer in college has been largely theoretical.  He's now saying on his own that it doesn't really figure into his plans.  He just wants to enjoy his experience playing high school soccer without any outside considerations affecting that.  Don't get me wrong -- he still takes it seriously and strives to do his best.  It's just not viewed as any kind of a means to an end -- it's now its own thing that we can all just appreciate.
Of course things could change between now and the time he actually graduates.  But now I'm trying to help him with his consideration of colleges, and I find myself in the odd position of encouraging him to at least explore other options besides Virginia Tech.  :-)

I know for a fact that Jamie Harless of Lord Botetourt was one of the folks interviewed and was one of the folks who impressed the most.

It may not mean as much in far SWVA as it does in this area.  I would have loved for my former high school coach and mentor, Fred Jennings, to have been interviewed for the podcast series Ryan is putting together.  You guys would have loved listening to him as much as I have for the past 40 years.  He passed away on Tuesday at the age of 86.  I would love for more people to hear his stories.  For example, at one point just following WWII, four of his older brothers were in the starting five of the Lees-McRae Bobcat basketball team.  All five starters were graduates of Fries High School and had fought in WWII.  They postponed completion of high school to serve their country, completed high school upon their return, all became college graduates and high achievers in life.  It was a different time and they were symbolic of "The Greatest Generation"!
Fred was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and lost 70% of his hearing in the process.  He was awarded the Silver Star for his efforts.  Fred attended every single Virginia Tech home football game from 1958 through 2016, not missing a single one.  He was honored on the field for his contributions to the university on several occasions.  Fred built a full-court basketball court and Olympic sized pool at his home to keep "his kids" (us) out of trouble.  He never had children of his own but had hundreds he taught and coached through the years.  He was my baseball coach, football coach, Algebra teacher, mentor and friend.  For most of the past 11 years, Fred would come to my office every few months and just talk...for hours.  His wife passed away a few years ago and he hasn't been the same.  He is, in all honesty, the single greatest influence on my life.  He took an interest in me when I was 4 years old, taught me the value of life and passed his love of math on to me.  He is the reason my username on this board, Twitter and Instagram handles will never change.  He is partially responsible for the moniker.
His brother, Allen "Birddog" Jennings was a teacher and coach at Virginia High in the 60's.  He wrote a fabulous book several years ago called "My Day to Wear the Underwear".  Birddog passed away March 8th at the age of 92.
Rest in peace Mr. Jennings.  You were loved and will be missed.

Looks like they just moved the Marion game from week 4 to week 9.

Thats exactly what we are trying to do with a bunch at RC.  Played our first tourney of the year and only lost to a team out of Tazewell last week twice.  We are in 12U but only have 1 12 yr old.  That Tazewell bunch had a good pitcher and probably the best catcher I have seen for that age.  That girl could flat out pick and throw it.  

The age limit for aging out of VHSL is “age 19 by August 1 of the upcoming academic year”, or something to that effect.  I may be off on the exact day/month.  For JV, I’m not sure there’s an age limit.

I would say TMS is at least 3000 and has hosted state playoff games before, so I don't see a problem.
A problem I do see is the VHSL ruining another opportunity for the kids to play a final four game at a big-time arena in a central location decided long before the season began.
