You’re never as bad as you look at your worst, and you’re never as good as you look at your best.  You often see with 1st year coaches that the teams will play well above themselves at times (Richlands, Abingdon) and have weeks where they regress below the mean (South).  With Battle being much more woeful than previously thought, a playoff berth is still within grasp.  Just have to keep fighting.

You'll not hear any grips from this long time Blues fan about the noise, or the atmosphere, loved it, High School Friday night football at its best.  Loved the game, just not the fourth quarter, LoL  Thought Union made the right adjustments, and the Blues just got worn down in the end.  A true Blues fan doesn't hate on other teams fans, we respect them, and when the last whistle blows and we loose, we take our hats off to the other team, and say "Wait til next year.  Congrats to the Bears and their fan base, good game.

I think most of the brewhaha on social media is coming from females probably relatives of players 😂 The moral.of the story, Mamas don't let your babies grow to be football players (if noise bothers them or you) 😂 

They better hope no train horns are involved. They won't be able to carry anyones slopbucket if so. lol

I remember going to Salem Stadium in 2009 or 10. I can’t remember. I watched the Blue Devils beat a very good Gretna team that I thought would roll them. 
 
Sad to see the sad state of affairs that has plagued Gate City the last several seasons. We feel your pain here in Craig.

That's the one.  Before that one, it looks like they have Abingdon, Bluefield, Tazewell and Radford.  I'm not pulling against Tazewell, since I'm a Bulldog fan and I believe Richlands will be the underdog in the other matches.

My friends 20 minutes away in Salem wonder what kind of cleats will be used. 

I'm a big Blue Tornado fan...and the ones making excuses for our loss is the same ones that do it ever time we loose.its only a few that does it but it makes us all as a fan base look bad....it was a good competitive game for 3 quarters...the better team one.im not saying they are a lot better than us right now but they are a lil better than us.Union has 3 or 4 running backs that are good and the Blues just can't seem to run the ball...been that way since Devon graduated...but we have always had a QB that could carry the team.we just don't have that this year...or if we do he hasn't got a chance yet...simmons is a great athlete but running the air mance offense is something you can do when you haven't played football since the 8th grade...ive seen it work at sum smaller schools but not in 2a as competitive as 2a is anymore....ya need a QB who has been running the same kinda offense thur jv up to varsity...thats just how I see it....alot will disagree....but till I see results you won't change my mind...

Definitely the Gate City Pregame Place to eat,   Friendly Folks and good food!! Highly recommend it if you are visiting Gate City for a Football Game!!! 

Thanks my friend I’m at Walmart now to try and get prepared!! I feel like this will be a great atmosphere and the weather is proving to be perfect for it as well!! Good luck to both teams looking for a good old fashion SWVA football game!  

I think GC could get back to being a contender with the new coach and atmosphere.  It will help with the Mcclung and Ervin era ending as the focus among the youngsters will gradually shift back to football for the school.  It will take time for the consistency to come back through the youth programs.

Because Hurley was a scrimmage and Richlands was a game. Never put much stock into a scrimmage or jamboree. 

Week 1 was a pleasant surprise. A long way to go though. Still need to get the numbers up in little league. Also need to keep those talented kids interested passed little league. I see some really talented kids quit between little league and 8th grade. 

I'm pulling for GC in this one.  Not because they won against Richlands, but because of the heart the players showed on the field.  The GC players had no quit in them and kept their head in the game until the final play.  I liked the GC fans getting behind their team with the "We are Gate City" chant.  Not sure I would say they are back, but in my opinion their on the way.  Congratulations to all at Gate City, hope the season is a success, and all you fans enjoy it!!!

Week 1 was a great first step for the program. Most knowledgeable GC fans will tell you that we still have a long way to go.
Our biggest hindrance will be our lack of depth. Is very difficult for a team of 30'ish to compete with a team of 50'ish. You have kids playing both ways, and they tire toward the latter stages of the games. This leads to an increased risk of injury, and  a couple of injuries can ruin your season when you have low numbers. Fatigued kids are slower. The RB they could contain early in the game, easily makes it outside in the 4th quarter.  We should be able to play with a lot of teams early in the games. The key will be how we play in the 4th quarters.
I think 5 wins would be great for this team. Get a few wins, and start building more excitement for the program. More excitement will hopefully lead to more kids wanting to play.
