Uh............it was a tie game with 1:07 left in the game. I think that EVERY game tied with a minute to go is at least kind of in doubt. hahahaha

Congrats to Herron!!!! So glad he got the nod. Deserving.

Yeah..............was a great game. Obviously wanted my Devils to win, but we could not pull it out. I thought we came out a little flat. Were not fired up yesterday like we were against Buckingham. It was 0-14 before we got going. Richlands is just too good of a team to spot them 14 points. 
 
Two pretty evenly matched teams went at it yesterday. Hated to see either one of them lose.
 
MUCH better fan and player behavior yesterday than we got from Buckingham the week before. It is my understanding that the Buckingham players urinated, and threw toilet paper, all over the locker room floor before leaving GC. 
 
Great job by the Richlands' fans. Hats off to you.

Yeah...great volleyball match tonight. Packed gym. The girls played pretty well. I think the scores were 25-14, 25-20, and 25-9. The most impressive 2A team I remember seeing. 
 
Hate having GC football and volleyball both playing on Saturday. Had planned on making the trip to Richmond, but guess I'll stay in GC and watch the 4.2 speed of Buckingham.

Great City...at first reading your post I thought..."seriously...you just sent their coach a game plan". However..I got to pondering and realized you just described every Gate City team in the last 40 years. So...carry on my friend because it is no secret what we do or will do. It seems to have done pretty well over the years.

Dan.............seating and parking should not be a problem. Like others have suggested, you probably would want to stay in Kingsport, TN. Not a bad drive to the field, and plenty of places to eat. I am also a fan of the Pal's Restaurant. There is one in Gate City. Strictly drive thru. Sauceburger with cheese, hot dog (no onions), large frenchie fry, and a sweet tea with lemon (my regular)..............of course I am on cholesterol medicine. :(
 
I have seen most of GC's games this year. Sometimes we have looked real good, and sometimes we did not play very well. We have the ability to pound the ball, and have a  couple of backs who can go the distance at any point. Not real impressed with our passing game. Defense is pretty stout. Do not defend the pass real well. Special teams: Think our kick off team could be a little better. Think our punt returner might be the best in the state in 2A. Team speed is not bad. We can't run 4.3s all over the field, but with a ball control offense keeping your offense off the field, we should not have too. (just ask Gretna).
 
I expect a good game. Like a lot of games this time of year, this one will probably come down to turnovers and who gets a few breaks.

From what I heard at work Gate City is the team for next year. 8 returning offensive starters. 2 of the ones they are losing are OL. The other Is the Collier kid. He said they lose a few on defense but they have kids who are ready to fill those spots. Virginia High will be hurting, so will John Battle. There success is done. Union is losing what 22 seniors? Central is a joke, Lebanon won't be any good. Lee will be much improved if they don't fire Martin. I look for Gate City to reign supreme again. But gah it hurts to say...

One of the many long standing usual comments they get from those that aren't going to admit just simply a better program, haha.  I'd say they probably have had more Lee County, or former Lee Co., or family originally Lee Co. athletes than TN athletes.  Danged Union and Gate City get the benefits of our county system's deficiancies, lol.

Everything west of Roanoke is a step-child and we should all embrace each other as such.

Curious about that comment myself. Glad to see Gate City is flying under the radar.

Interesting that you're counting out a Gate City team that beat both the Bearcats and the Pioneers...

If Battle's schedule is tough I'm the Pope! Come on now. We all know that's a lie. Other than district games Battle's schedule is cupcake. Look at VHS schedule. Now that's tough. Want real tough, look at Gate City.

Football is (generally) an outside sport played in the elements.  If we are going to worry about having the best playiing conditions possible, then why play ANY regular season games in the rain/snow?
 
 
The turf/speed teams will want as many games as possible played on turf because that is what they are used to playing on, and what gives them an advantage.
 
The natural grass teams are going to want as many games as possible played on natural grass because it is what they are used to playing on, and because it might give them an advantage.

Just heard from very reliable sources that the field was inspected today and the game will be at Sandlick

If the field is dangerous, move the game to a site of Haysi's choosing.

Heck, we Gate City fans would love to see a round 4 game in Gate City on Legion Field.

We have a set of cleets that we could sell them at a good price.....lol.......only used once !   I thought I would say it before someone else did....lol.
If you can't laugh at yourself,  then you can't laugh at anybody else......   I may have just got myself kicked off the recruiting staff !
