  1. I know they practiced at Emory & Henry's field one day this week. That's a good move, letting the players get used to the field turf somewhat before the game today. Good luck Warriors! I'll be listening. I'm sure my barber from Chilhowie will be at the game.
  2. Ha! Yep. That was me! :). Nice to meet you for a little bit. Did you all drive down last night?
  3. Could have been. I was wearing a Georgia hat and a black jacket. Was that you I spoke to while I was waiting for a table?
  4. I saw several Appomattox fans at Ihop in Bristol this morning.
  5. My family likes it as well. Love the catfish and always have some left over to bring home. I remember eating there years ago when it was Western Sizzlin.
  6. I know this is the morning after but I went back and read this post which made me think back to when I was a kid growing up and cheering for the Bulldogs. I had never been to a game at Grundy before and the week of the game people were telling me, "Oh I hear the last time, Tazewell went to Grundy, they slashed the tires on the band bus and stabbed a few people and threw them into the bushes!". Well naturally I was scared to death to go, but of course we had to go watch my brother play so off we went. Of course nothing happened and years later, I got to know several people from Grundy when I was in college who were some of the nicest people I've ever met on earth. It's a shame that a few fans from a each school tend to ruin the perception for everyone else.
  7. The one guy keeps yawning. Can someone get him a cup of coffee?
  8. They don't even know the overtime rules. "So if they score a touchdown is it over?". LOL!
  9. They never let the other one talk. They're always interrupting each other. Horrible!
  10. Being a former Bulldog player myself, I don't know about Marion being such a big rivalry game either. I do know things got pretty heated at the end of a playoff game over there in '87. If it was going to turn into a big rivalry, it would have definitely been after that.
  11. My top worst fields would be: (and this is no reflection on the people who live there) 1. Marion- The baseball/football field is horrible. They need a dedicated field just for football. 2. Richlands visitor side- I was over there one year back in the 80's when a bleacher broke and a girl fell through and hit a metal cross member underneath the stands. Not enough seats for the big rival games plus no concessions or bathrooms on visitor's side. 3. Grundy- Awful stands (only one side) and awful field. Well it used to be like that. I haven't been to a game there in several years. 4. Lebanon- So cramped in beside the old high school it's not even funny. Legion field in Gate City was intimidating back in the 80's (fireworks being set off during the game by fans) but I went there for a playoff game about 3 yrs ago and thoroughly enjoyed it! The fans were great and I witnessed true sportsmanship at the end of the game between the Richlands fans and the GC fans.
  12. So glad to see Coach Colobro back in Tazewell again. There is a buzz back in the community like I haven't seen in a while. I guarantee you they will go back to the basics of blocking, tackling, and being in tip top shape. That's as much about football as X's and O's. I think too often this day and age people overlook the basics and focus on running the Pistol formation and Jet sweeps, etc.
  13. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither will the winning tradition be built back that quick at Tazewell. Hopefully they can either get someone in there with tons of experience and knowledge (ah-hem! Yes you know who I mean) or someone who is bright, young, and willing to put in the time and effort to build that program back to the glory days. Its just a matter of finding the right fit for the condition the program is in right now.
  14. Good luck to the whole Richlands football team and staff! Everyone be careful travelling today.
  15. Jesse Davis (won the Junior National college Championship at Lees McRae as starting QB) , Robert Viney (Hampton), Stephan Holloway (Va Tech), Quentin Reed (ETSU). I hate to single any of them out. That was some kind of a year. Everyone all together as one unit.
  16. When I played for Tazewell, we never practiced on the game field until towards the end of the season. Some of the assistant coaches used to do a great job of fertilizing, watering, and mowing the field. I think the boosters used to help paint the end zones on Thursday evenings.
  17. His impact on the Tazewell football program should never be forgotten. Would be interesting if he could work his magic again over there. (That is if the rumor is true.)
  18. Best post on here. Reminds me a lot of how I grew up. My brother played football for Tazewell and so did I, so I was all too familiar with most of the stadiums in the area. I can tell you, back in the 80's and 90's you didn't come out of Gate City often with a win.
  19. One of the best facilities around. Not a bad seat in the house.
  20. I've heard that Tazewell treats the broadcasters well. My brother was in college when we played Martinsville on our way to the state title that year. He knew a guy at school whose dad worked the FB games for the Martinsville radio station. He said he never saw as much food in a press box.
  21. Congrats to Coach Darren Reed on the win tonight. I'm hoping to catch the Abingdon-Richlands game in a couple of weeks.
  22. I'm happy for Darren. We were roommates for a while in college. Being a protégé of Coach Colobro, I can see him being aggressive in going for 2 in OT.
