futbolking 766 Report Share Posted September 3, 2016 Graham has athletes all over the field. Tazewell was able to run a lot of time off of the clock tonight, but Graham scored quickly on their possessions. It may be a shootout. But I like, Graham in this one, but I am biased. Richlands has the experience factor and they have been in big games, that could make the difference. Tazewell did a good job of moving the ball, getting first downs and eating clock.... just ended drives with costly mistakes or penalties. Very similar to last year's game. Graham's rush defense did not look as sharp as it has early on. Pass defense looked improved, except for a blown coverage and a nice catch and run from Tazewell's receiver. Mountain Football 1,533 Report Share Posted September 3, 2016 Richlands is a fundraising machine. They have a ton of support. My question is why does Tazewell county not have handicap seating on the away side of their stadiums? Neither Tazewell or Richlands has handicap seating on away side. Well poor seating period on away side. Ryan4VT and Bigrhsfan

hhstigers7327 217 Report Share Posted September 3, 2016 Note on the game... Richlands isnt a very good football team right now. Even coach Mance echoed that on the radio. I'd say if Graham tackles and gets pressure on the QB they win.
tornado99 345 Report Share Posted September 3, 2016 It's hard for me to predict, but it couldn't come at a better time for Graham after the hard fought battle with Union. Graham is loaded with athletes, but I feel they are somewhat unproven after what I thought to be a porous Beaver defense last week. It could be the best game between these two in years. I'm going with Richlands in a close one, but I too am biased.

Yeah......I was told to squash that and make sure everyone thought it was a rumor. I've known about them for about a week. Been hard to keep it a secret. Bigrhsfan 884 Report Share Posted September 3, 2016 About halftime tonight I was thinking they might should throw them pretty new helmets into the mighty clinch and break out the old blue ones with the way they were playing..........of course Union had a little something to do with that, but they need to get better all around if they are going to beat Graham. I think this game against Union will help the young guys grow up and hopefully put em on the right track.........I guess we will find out this Thursday night. Graham scares me this year with all their weapons because they will score, and I use to think we could score at will on just about anybody, but after these last 2 games we just don't seem to have it quite together yet, maybe this is the week we finally look like the offense we expected, I have a feeling it better be for us to pull out a win. I think this has the potential to be a real shootout and should be fun to watch. I'll take my Blues, but I wouldn't be surprised if Graham wins............especially in Bluefield. Swvafan72 15 Report Share Posted September 3, 2016 Graham wins big in this one. Richlands D is not good enough at this point to stop a running back like Jamorya. I believe graham will have a much improved pass defense and put it on the blues. EH31
tornado99 345 Report Share Posted September 3, 2016 I could be way wrong on this, but even though in my opinion Graham has more athletes than Union, it's a match up I am more comfortable with due to styles. Styles make fights. Union had a very good line and a double tight power offense seems to be sort of a kryptonite to controlling Richlands offense. Graham looked very explosive when I saw them, but don't have a feel for their offensive line play. Penetration is the key to stopping those explosive plays. If they get in the backfield before they get going, it could be a long night. Whatever the outcome, I think it will be by 10 or fewer points. local_insight 146 Report Share Posted September 3, 2016 It's all about match ups. Graham has struggled against the pass so far this year. Neither team they have played so far has had hardly any passing attack. Graham has a very good offense no doubt about it, very fast. People keep saying Richlands defense is not very good. They are not as good as last year, but Union would run the ball right down about ever SWVA teams throat. Richlands last night went away from what they know the first 3 quarters and finally decided to go back to the bread and butter with 6 mins left. I think Graham is a very good team, but in this one experience out plays speed. Richlands throws the ball all over the field and wins this one 28-21. I may be wrong, but that's my prediction. Union_Fan 2,155 Report Share Posted September 3, 2016 No idea what Graham looks like this year, but I know what Cousin looked like last year. Jam the receivers and blitz JLA. Do that and Graham wins. Do it not and he'll pick the G-Men apart. Richlands is vulnerable to the run. Just mix up the play calling to keep them guessing.

SWVAgridiron 1,469 Report Share Posted September 3, 2016 From what I've read it seems like no one in 2A could match up with Appomattox right now with the possible exception of Graham. It looks like Giles, Richlands, and Union are battling for the #2 spot in SWVA 2A. I'll be at Mitchell Thursday to see how Richlands matches up with Graham, but for the 1st time in 2 years I'm gonna have to pick against the Blues. Ryan4VT 4,557 Report Share Posted September 3, 2016 Wonder how Thursday night will affect the gate? Over / under 6,000 in attendance? I think you'll see a big gate. Graham and Richlands will have big crowds, but teams like Tazewell and Bluefield who don't have games will probably add fans to the mix. futbolking 766 Report Share Posted September 3, 2016 I agree with Ryan. Good teams bring out a lot of folks. Heard some Tazewell folks talking about going to the GHS / RHS game last night. I'm just hoping that Graham plays them well and is in position to win or at least threaten them. It would do a lot for their confidence. Graham needs a big win. They play Richlands, Galax, Giles and Abingdon in the next few weeks. If they get through that gauntlet with only one or 2 losses, it would be awesome and even better "if" they lose, that the games are competitive and close. I think they will be. Graham has worked very hard this off season and it has shown. As mentioned before, they appeared much more athletic and in shape than Tazewell. They have lots of speed, but I was a little nervous about the defense last night, Tazewell was able to move the ball somewhat. I guess we will all find out on Thursday night. BlueRazor 1,147 Report Share Posted September 3, 2016 I think the Gmen should be favored by a touchdown in this one. Should be another tough game for us but the Blues should be ready. As usual turnovers and penalties will be a huge factor here. Matchups for both teams will be fun to watch. Very excited about this one. Big game with big points for the seedings are at stake here. Graham is the real deal this year and deserves the praise and respect they are getting. Richlands has to be better in this one and I think they will. I look for both teams to score 30 or better. Maybe something like........first one to 40 wins......lol futbolking
NaderFan 39 Report Share Posted September 3, 2016 Richland's running game is really concerning. JLA doesnt look the same so far this year. Need to take some pressure off him.
tbgfan 856 Report Share Posted September 3, 2016 Union with their run game the first half was really unstoppable. The adjustments Coach Mance and staff made at halftime didn't stop the run completely, but it allowed the Blues defensive unit to get some 3 and outs in second half. The good of this will be Blues knowing they have serious work to do on the ground and pound game of future opponents. As for our running game, I thought Booker had more success on the sweeps than trying to go up the middle. The running game is our Achilles Heel right now. The offense has sputtered and not been the efficient juggernaut of last year. Our defense is growing. Last nite they showed their resilience in the second half. Graham will most definitely be a test and challenge for the Blues Thursday nite. Graham is on the rise as a program and certainly has a stable of athletes this year to make an impressive run. Union was a beast the Blues had to slow last nite and survive. The G-Men are more of a finesse team, and I think the matchups Thursday nite are more favorable for the Blues against the G-Men's offense. Hold Cousin in check and I feel the Blues can come away with the W in a close game. GO BLUES LET'S FINISH BlueRazor
