Time to have the tournament at a place and close to a school that has been one of the most popular teams in the area in the tournament's 40 year history.

It's time to have

THE ARBY'S CLASSIC AT FREEDOM HALL

Seating capacity is 8,500 people.  Not a bad seat in the place.  The crowd is right there near the floor.  To me having the Arby's Classic in Freedom Hall would actually elevate the tournament to a new level and Science Hill could rake in all kinds of money through concessions and other sales.

Parking would be good as well.  Plenty of hotels in the area for teams to stay at.  Plenty of gym space for teams to practice at or shootaround at.

Johnson City to me is the most logical replacement town and Freedom Hall is the most logical place to hold the Arby's Classic.

I think the tournament is still staying at Viking Hall but they will be getting a new sponsor that will provide more money than Arby's. If that is the case Arby's is going to have to get creative if they want compete with the already established tournament in Bristol.

Freedom Halls capacity for basketball is around 6000, not 8500. Viking Hall seats 6100, so not much is gained, maybe even a little lost capacity wise in moving it to JC.  But in reality, is seating even an issue unless there is some local team who has a phenomenal athlete or change to win the title?

Yeah... no chance in me ever supporting it if it goes there... they charge for parking for football games at Kermit Tipton.  I'll stick with the tournament at Viking Hall, even if Arby's moves to the new and improved BVH  Dome when it repopens.

WJHL and WCYB announced today that the Arby's was moving to Virginia High.  The spokesman for Arby's said Tennessee High wanted to take their sponsorship money but didn't want it to be called the Arby's Classic any longer.

I think this is a great move for Virginia High athletics. I heard they are setting up 2 brackets one for high schools and another for prep schools. Also Virginia High is a great venue for it.

If they go the prep school route this tournament won't last more than 2 years. It needs to be comprised of public schools that have a decent following. A majority of the prep schools that Virginia High has brought in from past showcases were just glorified AAU teams that called themselves a school. If Barry Reed was still the AD at Virginia High I would be more optimistic but with what they have right now I don't see it lasting long.
