Union was given love. They played a great game and me and Larry gave credit where it was due. Slagle was lights out and Mitchell played tough as well. Slagle ate GC up in the paint. It was a great game....But it was essentially the Mac and Slagle show. Not much else to talk about.
 
Just more people praising Mac for such an unreal performance versus praising Union on a hard fought game. That's no slight to the Bears....Anyone that was at the game knows what kind of game it was.

Well....that tells me who you are talking about and Ive never seen her play basketball, only rec volleyball.

I still think MHS handles Lee tomorrow.

Union kept whoever was guarding Kimbler inside to try and help stop Mac's penetration. Was not a bad idea, except it really did not stop Mac. If Noah would have hit a few threes early, no doubt they would have abandoned that strategy quickly.
 
I was real surprised Mitchell guarded Mac. I initially thought Mitchell's length and leaping ability would give Mac problems. Obviously I was wrong. Mac penetrated at will against him, and somehow shot over him several times. Union can't put Slagle on Mac. That would lead to Slagle fouling out early in the game. 
 
With Zac and Dean still not healthy, I think Mac did what he had to do tonight. Truth be told, I think he could score 40 points almost every game. Not sure he can be stopped one-on-one. 
 
In the rematch, whoever guards Slagle will need to stay on him, and not leave him to help out. He is by far their best basketball player.
 
With two of the "big three" clearly not healthy, I was very pleased with the win.

Fundamental basketball is scarce these days and it's a shame. However, if a player has the ability to dunk the ball it's a huge advantage.... Especially if he can go straight up under the basket with power and throw down 2 handed. That's fundamental basketball. Shorter distance for the ball to travel than a layup....Higher percentage shot and much less chance a defender blocks the shot. Usually draws a foul in the process as well.
 
Where fundamentals are thrown out the window is when players dribble way too much instead of looking to make great passes and they choose to do a 360 or between-the-legs slam when they could go with a simple dunk that's higher percentage. But..... I still enjoy watching it either way.

River............is a black out for the student section, but I also saw on Twitter where it said to wear black or blue.
 
We have pressed in spurts this year. Not for an entire game like we used to do. Generally this year our press has resulted in a faster paced game, and instant offense.

Well the Freshman they have right now is a possible D1 prospect. Dean will blossom quite a bit next year and I expect him to tear it up as a Junior. Don't think there's any super talented up and comers on the 8th grade team....If there is I haven't heard of them. I think having 3 on the same team is unheard of at a small public school in SWVA. I'm just trying to enjoy the team they have as much as I can....Won't be this way for long.
 
Radford will compete in 2A no problem. They have a great coach and a great program. The competition will be stiffer once they make it into the post season....But regular season play will look alot of the same for the Bobcats I think. 2-3 tough games and that will probably be it....Unless they go out of their way to schedule some other teams and do some traveling. I'd like to see Radford come on down and play at the Arbys classic and represent VA....Along with Graham, Richlands, MHS or Dan River.

I normally like a good internet fight but this one has been hard to root for.

71-53 GC in the snap of a finger. Finally coming alive and everyone is scoring a little.

Anyone that may be interested in some GC shirts let me know. Still trying to nail down a design but have a few ideas already. Just trying to pick the best designs to put together a solid front and back. Maybe a couple of you GC folks can tell me what you like the best if your interested.

Scotty has alot of talent to work with so it's hard to justify what he's doing as being good coaching. I'm really not sure who would be considered the best coach in SWVA. I guess I'd have to go with Carlock if I had to choose. He seems to draw the best out of his players and they play with a ton of grit for him.
 
The coach for Norton always got those guys up for games against GC when they played and they always gave GC at least one tough game out of the two they played and usually did it with lesser talent. He knows what he's doing but I haven't really kept up with the coaches that much. Don't even remember the guys name.
 
Would definitely mention Battles coach as well. Castlewood and Twin Valley used to have really good coaches too....Not sure if they are the same coaches they had from the mid 2000s but those coaches were solid from what I remember.

UVA and VT haven't offered yet so its to be determined if that is gonna happen....But just them showing interest has gotta make Mac feel good.

Is this game gonna be as big of a blowout as everyone keeps saying? I feel like the GC starters might not play very much. The MD is pretty weak this year..... Would be nice if GC had some stiffer competition throughout the schedule to keep them at their best all season long instead of just being front loaded. I'll go ahead and throw out a prediction without knowing anything about Ridgeview:

Bench players see alot of minutes and Ridgeview makes the game ever-so slightly more respectable the last 5 mins of the game.
