Bluefield researcher reacted to hurley11 in 2017 schedules.
I lIke how everyone likes to pick on Hurley's scheduling. Pick one team on Hurley's schedule that has a smaller enrollment than Hurley . Its not easy to get teams to come to Hurley. Nobody said anything when these teams were beating us . We go 10-0 and here comes the talk. Actually I would say the schedule did hurt Hurley in the playoffs because Hurley's players never played past the 2nd quarter. Hurley is the second smallest school in the state. They are actually playing up with anybody they play. Castlewood, Eastside, twin Springs, Holston, Shelby Valley all dropped Hurley for the upcoming cycle. All of these teams Hurley has beat easily the last few years with the exception of 2A Shelby Valley. I dont think you can pick on a teams schedule when every team they played was a larger school. I actually think last years Hurley team was better than this years team and they finished 9-3 and lost to Galax 28-14 in a tight ballgame. Galax went on to win the state. Hurley is playing the teams they suppose to. Did there schedule hurt them this year? Probably. No one metioned there schedule last year when they gave Galax all they could handle. The kids in Hurleys program went 10-0 because they put in the work . Not because of scheduling. Every team on the 2016 schedule was a larger school if you want to check the enrollment numbers.

Na. You just have the same issue that Roger Clemens had. You misremembered. It is an actual word and I run into it a lot doing high school football research. It is when someone genuinely thinks something is true when it turns out not to be the way that they remember. Before I started doing detailed research I always told people that the first Bluefield game that I went to was in 1971 when Bluefield played Stonewall Jackson and they returned a punt to win 7-0. I would have sworn on a stack of bibles that that was true. Turns out that everything I remembered was true except that the team Bluefield played was not Stonewall Jackson it was Woodrow Wilson of Beckley. The fact that football season is in the prior year to graduation also clouds memories. 1984 season seniors graduated in 1985 etc.

I've got Haysi's first win over Clintwood on 10-18-1985, 26-7 at Haysi. Went 10-2 that year and lost to Powell Valley 27-14 in the playoffs at Big Stone Gap. Got their first playoff win in school history that year as well beating Pennington 12-9 at Pennington Gap.

Bluefield researcher reacted to futbolking in Tazewell Football
They haven't done any interviews yet. Nobody has been hired yet, told they were going to be hired or anything of the sort. Deadline to apply is December 19th. Interviews will be conducted after Christmas break.
Colobro would be great for Tazewell and it would be nice for him, if he were able to move close to his dad. It would be hard to imagine a more qualified person or better fit for the Bulldogs, but you never know.....
As far as moving to Tazewell.... Tazewell is an awesome place, full of awesome people, no matter what some of the folks from the outside think. The High School is awesome and it is full of awesome kids and they deserve nothing but the best in all areas, not just sports.
We have some special kids in this area folks, not sure how much you guys realize it, but after living in different areas..... it's not even close.

Bluefield researcher reacted to RichlandsAlum in Best players from SWVA state champions before 2000.
That '86 doggie team was pretty solid from top to bottom. A lot of players from that roster went on to the next level. And they were all genuinely good guys as a rule.
And now I feel a bit light headed. Pretty sure I have never been that complimentary of anything Tazewell related in my life.

High school has very few penalties that bring auto first down. For instance; pass interference is not an auto first down. Most personal fouls are not. Roughing the passers and kicker are exceptions.

Bluefield researcher reacted to GMan in Old southwest district
The last good year for the SWD was when you had Graham, Tazewell, Richlands, Grundy, Lebanon, Marion, Patrick Henry, Abingdon, John Battle, Virginia, and Gate City. That was around 1985.

Are we really saying that Sussex played an easy schedule compared to that cupcake schedule that GW plays? Sussex 40 GW 20.

Bluefield researcher reacted to futbolking in Tazewell Football
One thing that needs to be straight here. Tazewell High School is fully accredited. They have posted the HIGHEST Math and English scores in the county for 2 consecutive years. They are the ONLY high school in Tazewell County that is Federally accredited. (Check the Division Report Cards if you want to verify this).
The administration currently at THS is excellent and the school is performing well despite the negative stereotype by folks in other parts of the county.
Tazewell County Schools just underwent an academic review for accreditation. THS was chosen to represent the county at the high school level and got very high marks (some of the highest the review board has ever given)
The academic team at THS was state runners up last season and are poised to do just as well or better this season.
THS performs well at non-athletic competitions of all sorts. I think a lot of schools should have the "culture" of THS.
Football is extra-curricular.... it's this other stuff that really matters.

Bluefield researcher got a reaction from FalconVoice in Roanoke Times Predictions

Bluefield researcher reacted to BigO in Local teams!
