In my neighborhood, in the quad yard area. We have a Gate City alum (me) and Lee High alum, a John Battle next door neighbor and a  J.J. Kelly alum and a DB alum and our neighborly conversations according to the DB guy they haven't lost a game since the 90's it always the ref's fault or an illegal play or a hired gun transfer that does them in, never do they lose on the field and his behavior is even worse during baseball season. Every year is the same some good talent but not great and high expectations but smashing disappointment. Remember DB has never one a state championship on the field just in a newspaper!

And get 5 linemen that are about 300 lbs + that bench 450 ….yeah that’s all they have to do

Either way Lee or Gate City is getting smashed by Graham in the first round. Gotta feel bad for the seniors who lose a chance on playing another game for GC, but happy for the seniors at Lee who get to play an extra one. 

Nothing but respect to those kids from Battle. 17 players. Most kids would have quit during this 0-10 season. Character is not revealed during times of comfort.,but in times of adversity. Most teams would have just forfeited. I salute each of those 17 young men on the visitor's side. The wonderful thing about sports is it teaches you life lessons. When these young men are grown and life gets tough (as it always does) these guys will remember not giving up. It will serve them well.

My bet is on the coach who holds the Region D trophy up after the Region D championship game 🙂 

John S Battle field , I love how close you are to the action, hate Central’s setup , you are too far away and the visitors stands are low , you just can’t see anything

Central's stadium is beautiful...until you try to watch a game in it. Like you said, feels like watching a baseball game...from behind the outfield fence.... while sitting in a chair.

The playoffs should be the district champs plus top 2 in power points. 2 games and you have a regional champ. Union would have not won the region last year but that’s just fine . That reduces injuries and the overall fatigue of the players. We have long rewarded everyone with a trophy, but don’t we want the best vs best . The state championship has in the past had some 5 and 5 teams win state (Janesville, Appalachia, Blacksburg) but I still believe that only the best teams should be in the playoffs. 

I think we'll get out of round 1 not a definite though but Graham will beat us pretty easy.  You're not beating a good team turning the ball over and getting holding penalties 7-10 times a game.  Also graham QB will rush for 200 yards on our defense

You can approach it with the mentality of securing the win early with the Big Lead by doing what you do and not risking injury and getting your starters out at halftime and getting ready for the playoffs, OR.......you can do what you need to work on, and that's a short-intermediate passing game. I would choose option 2. 
Pass the ball early. Work on timing, routes, accuracy, and on pass blocking which many forget about. When you are way, way, run oriented, and you do it even in practice, it's a whole other ballgame when you have to pass block in a game you need to pass it some to win. The inverse is true of Richlands over the years. They were very pass happy, and that's fine, but when you get into a playoff game where you need to run it to put it away (Appo 2015 I think it was), then it's a huge adjustment for an OL to all of a sudden run block when the overwhelmingly portion of the OLs practice reps is pass blocking.
Pass blocking and run blocking are way different, and watch Union some when they do pass. Forget about the WR route or accuracy of the pass, just watch how the QB is often under duress. That's due to insufficient reps and practice by the OL in pass blocking.

There is no way in the world anyone can convince me that the Beavers kid at WR for Ridgeview isn't major D1.  How in the he## can any college recruiter watch the film of this game and not see that.  He absolutely TOYED with the Bluefield secondary and Bluefield has about 3 sub-under 10.5 100 meter guys in that defensive backfield.  This kid is a damn freak!

Yeah officiating isn't problem but is funny when 3 refs throw flags and they decide there's no penalty

I don't think it would be a blowout either, but keep in mind, Graham has also really hit the gas in improvement, perhaps second only to the Beavers in improvement. Central is also up there, but Graham also had some super talented, but inexperienced lineman to start the season, and their line has really taken off. A nasty line that doesn't look the same and I'm now to the point that if Graham and Union play again, I'm not sold Union is rushing it for over 150 yards. Union is going to be greatly surprised, if the two play again, in Grahams line. It's not going to be the same bunch they remembered from early in the year.

WET weather for Friday and Sat., I really dont know if that helps UNION or not.The holding calls has to stop,the wide outs are the ones holding and i can say they are legit calls .Geeez ,guys all you have to do is get your body between the ball  and the defense , you dont have to hold. Run your pattern down the field every play and see if your man is cheating up and then go play action and throw.The wind and heavy rain on a grass field will limit some of what each team does but, that three man front that UNION runs will give the Q B lanes to run in ,so it may be a very long night.......oh well there is still MELLO MUSHROOM to eat at on the way back

Must chime in and say I'm proud of the Blues for never quiting in this game.  They could have folded after the first half, hung their heads and got on the bus, but they fought hard in the second half against a better opponet and never quit fighting until the end.  Union had the better team, and it showed on the field.  I take my hat off to both teams and congrats to the way the game was played.  Always an exciting game to watch and this one was no different, just a good hard played football game.

To follow up, when they played Dan River it was in a monsoon with some of the worst field conditions I’ve ever seen. Union beat DR that year and then Appomattox blew them off the field. I’d assume Appomattox does the same to DR on a dry field. 

According to CalPreps the 2016 Riverheads team would beat the 1972 Dolphins 222-0.

All they have to do is…..move up and prove it, or schedule Appomattox it’s only 1.5 hours away and closer than Tazwell or put Graham on it , put some money where that mouth is
