FalconVoice reacted to Soccer_Dad in Union @ John Battle
Battle did fight hard. And Larry is right. The sweep with #9 killed them. Plus Battle left some points out there. They made 3 trips inside the 20 only to come up empty handed. But that was probably the best team on both sides of the ball we've seen all year besides Abingdon. Anybody who was there will tell you that Battle moved the ball well & played hard until the end. There is no quit in this team. I've been watching JSB since 2001 & this team plays harder than any that I have seen there... Very good crew officiating the game tonight also. I feel that they called it very fair both ways. I didn't see them miss anything obvious all night. Both teams played an extremely clean game. My hat's off to both teams for a class act on the field. Congratulations to Union & good luck to both teams moving forward.

Falcon Voice is now referencing swvasports at halftime of Abingdon game on radio. Talking about playoff possibilities of the Falcons as posted on swvasports. The ESPN of Southwest Virginia. Which one is Chris Berman, G-Man, UVAO, Union Fan or Ryan?

And to my knowledge, they've also already lost their #3 QB to an ACL tear (was QB of the JV team at least) earlier in the season. I don't know if this would ever come into play (and I certainly hope not), but for a team the size of Battle, I believe that leaves them down just a few options at the spot, and only one of whom whose primary position is QB. For example, if they (as has been rumored above) have to move Scarbrough to QB (who's listed as a QB/RB/DB on their official roster), they'd be taking his playmaking ability at other positions.
But, I do have to say, he's a GREAT kid. I'm not denigrating anyone else in saying that, just saying how impressed I've been with Mr. Scarbrough in my limited interactions with him. It's ALWAYS yes sir, no sir, and he's an affable kid that I think most of the student body at JSB considers a leader. So best of luck to both him and the Trojans this week and beyond.

Who would have ever thought at the beginning of the season, that the Union/JSB thread would have been 3 pages. That defiantly says something about Battles progression through out the season.

I love the BHC and really enjoyed Sacco, but this is an error that is so simply to solve... "backfield tandem of Ryan Marston and Kelby Ford has been potent. Marston has averaged 9.0 yards per carry en route to a total of 1,315 yards while Ford has powered to 470 yards while also excelling on defense. Marston will make a run for the SWD rushing title tonight behind his solid offensive line."
Marion is not in the SWD.

Thank you VHSLhelper. Very much appreciated that you would take time out of your day to post this for those of us being the only 3A West team around here in the playoff picture. Makes a lot more sense now.

Abingdon is a whole lot closer to the #1 seed than I would have ever thought they would get after losing to Graham. Go Falcons!

Im not going to get in a barking match with you... But believe me when I say I will defend my kid! You all are grown men who talk trash about every ones kids unless it is some one close to you. How about lifting the kids up and hoping for the best for them instead of jumping on the shit train and talking about them!!! Over and out have better things to do

Taking advice from someone on a sports message board about personal
relationships is not exactly what I would call smart...just so you know.

That's right. I remember watching films preparing for Matewan, and seeing the tigers (?) running out of a tent and plowing over some cheerleaders to Ozzy Osborne. Funniest film session I have ever seen. -

I went with Lloyd to a Reg. D baseball tourney game at Ewing years back - set up under one of those funeral home tents near where the on-deck circle would be. Don't think THAT would've been there but the forecast was 50% showers.
Ron's done a bunch of games on GTH from the bleachers - most HS press boxes just weren't built for 2 visiting radio stations.

Absolutely. I have done football games from the stands, in a building on the hill behind the stadium (a little bit like the Waveland Avenue effect for Cubs games...or what used to be), outside of the press box with the bullhorns blasting the PA noise in our ears (and consequently over the air), basketball games from in, behind and caddy-cornered with bleachers, equipment rooms and of course on the floor, and baseball games from a press box which is even with the bag at 1st, a locker room window, and from outside the 3rd base dugout.

You'll have that more times than not early in your broadcasting career. I for one realized how well we had it in Southwest Virginia facility wise once I left the area.
I've done games from places such as tool sheds sitting on top of a John Deere to the back of a school bus.

I watched every Richlands game last year in shorts. Even the Grayson and Buckingham games...redtiger can attest to that. So far, I'm 10/10 on wearing shorts to Richlands games this year.

I didn't pack warm because we were going to be in the press box (just one layer of pants and two layers up top), but the way they built that press box (right on top of the metal bleachers on the home side), there was no insulation whatsoever, and the cold permeated your body from every surface you touched (including the metal bleachers underneath). We were seeing our breath in the box and chattering our teeth on air. Honestly, we had a guy from outside come in to get warm and then turn around and say, "I think it's warmer out here, the only difference is the wind." We couldn't feel our feet again in the car until Blacksburg, even with the heat pumped. That's just how cold it was. Also, I learned my lesson. Freezing or not in the press box, I pack warm and work backwards. You can always take layers off.

FalconVoice reacted to BigO in Week 11 CalPreps Predictions
They predict AHS making it to semi's in the west losing to Rustburg by 2. That's if all teams that are supposed to win (by ranking) do. And also, that's if I did it correctly, and it's based on current rankings. I have AHS playing Tunstall in rd 1 and then Lord Botetourt rd 2 and then Rustburg in rd 3.
AHS 42 Tunstall 10
AHS 35 LB 31
AHS 26 Rustburg 28
I put in Brookville (ranked #1) vs Staunton River (ranked 4) and it predicted Staiunton River to win 31-24.
I realize that I may have done the brackets wrong.

If Abingdon doesn't play "down" to the competition they should get the W.

Had to find a way to punish the school and most likely wanted to do it without effecting them monetarily. Probably a good chunk of these football players play basketball is my guess also since its a 1A school. Surprised it didnt effect all boys sports the remainder of the year. TSSAA wants to set a precedent to try and keep others from dropping out of the playoffs in the future.

Punishing the basketball team for the actions of the football team is simply wrong.

A running game has truly been missed this year. Abingdon definitely exposed that last week.
But to answer the question. Yes, last year was a better team and much more balanced on offense. I have been pleasantly surprised with this years defense thus far.
