I don't think how much time he will coach means much....they were simply running out of time to hire a coach....he stepped up for their program IMO

Right choice for the kids and program.   Glad Coach Tarter  was named to lead the Blues and give them continuity.  A heart for the Blues and a mentor for the kids.  He did an awesome job as "head coach" against Ridgeview and led the Blues in almost pulling  off the win.  

Hats off to Coach Tarter for stepping up and taking this position. He's a great guy and I'm sure the kids will play hard for him. 

Best move they could have made this time of the year the kids all know and like him plus it gives them time to find a long term fit

Good question. My guess is purely numbers, based upon me asking the question myself.  Evidenced by the number of teams (2), compared to my past experiences 5 and 4 with Baptist Valley, Raven, and Cedar Bluff no longer active.  I assume soccer is mostly to blame, but again, that's why I asked. I thought other SWVA communities were in the same boat prior to the responses in this thread. 

As a parent with two kids in the Richlands youth program, can some one tell me why they feel that the league is failing? I just registered my boys last week, to play flag football this summer and football this fall. 

If it is true from a total outsiders perspective "My how the mighty have fallen" Richlands went from the best coaching staff in the area, to the one season (kinda) Wells experiment, to the Eastside coach with a losing record! I hope it works but always remember you are one hire a way from being an also ran.

I saw where the football coach at Hurley has resigned; he also coach basketball and tennis I think....going to be tough to find someone when consolidation talks are always on the horizon.  Did he just get out or has he moved on before the doors closed?

Certainly, prayers for this young man’s family and the Richlands community.  I hope Graham makes a show of solidarity Thursday night.
 
Knowing that some HS kids read (and post) on this board, I will say this.  If you are considering ending your own life, those feelings are not normal and healthy.  It’s OK to be “not OK”, but please seek help if you are feeling these emotions; every insurance provides for mental health evaluation and treatment.  Suicide is a permanent solution to temporary troubles.  People do care: your family, your friends, and your community care.  And believe you me, once you walk off that stage in early June after your senior year, the “crap” that goes along with high school disappears.

Great idea!!!!  Something tragic like this goes WAYYYY beyond football!!!  I sure hope the teams come together for prayer for this young mans family!!!

That's the thing,  They were playing a VERY good 4A school.  The Blues are going to be a good team,  but have some things to work on,  and a lot of people don't realize that they are young too.  They play several sophs anbd freshman and have a very bright future !
Proud of how they never quit and played hard in the 2nd half when it would have been easy to have a let down !  Keep working and playing hard Blues..........it will pay off in the neaer future !
 

I must say I highly commend the Richlands faithful for remaining true to their team, coach and school. Others can be unrealistic at times, too quick to blame everything else for a loss other than the other team is better and we need to keep working to get better.  You all are first class. Never too high about a win or too low about a loss. You are a great example. Good luck the rest of the year.

'Bout what we all thought it would be, throw the ball deep and run under it for the score.  I'm proud of the fact that the blues did not quit and scored 17 on a 4-A school.  To bad we face another tough situation next week and the week after.  Hopefully playing this caliber of talent will make the later part of the season a success.  Proud of the BLUES!!!

Richlands went 5-1 at Marshall today. They lost to a team from Knoxville who has 4 D1 players on it. They also beat Bluefield 8 touchdowns to 3.

If they make the playoffs and don't deserve to be there than they'll be one and done.
If they deserve to be there then they'll advance.

Been a while since anybody has mentioned Mike.  I do have an update for those interested.  He was finally able to have the surgery that was originally scheduled.  His heart is up to 25% from 15%.  He is now on the transplant list.  Anybody that knows him knows he has been able to work a bit but still long long way to go for him.

We get it, you don't like Blacksburg..but this post doesn't make a lot of sense.
