Always felt Steers / Bulls nicknames were hard on the girl’s sports, because then they’re just the Cows. Unfortunate. Nick Colobro changed GC from Royal to Columbia blue from 83-92, which would make a cool throwback, imo.
appo has became a gold-standard as of the past, say 10 years. before that there were dark days, just as in several other area teams. no one stays at the top forever, nor do they stay at the bottom. things change, slower/faster in some places than others. unless you're salem who seems to always be in the running. whoever comes out of region D always has a shot, just gotta get past appo, easier said than done. watched appo the past several years, and it's amazing watching how simple they keep things and execute to near perfection in all areas of the game.
And the last swva team to knock off Appo? Lee High, 2014 - right before they fired Terry Martin.
I use weight room as a euphemism for working out. We didn’t have that big fancy weight room when I went to GC; Rocky didn’t have weights in Russia. Find a way.
People forget that Graham had Gretna reeling pretty hard in the 2nd half of that state semifinal. Graham overcame a 27-0 deficit and had the ball with a chance to take the lead late in the 4th. Gretna would have blown the doors off GC. Take from that what you will.
It’s too bad Thurman didn’t stay in Bristol. How fun would it be to watch VA walk all over TN High every year?
With respect to those who hold a different opinion, I'm not one saying they end up with the same amount of titles. Like I wrote, I think Graham in 1978, 1981, 1990, 1993, 2001, and 2003 win state titles, and they would have been in the mix in 1974 and 1984. I think they would have lost to PV in 1995. So, in my opinion only, I think they would have very likely had 5 more state titles to their resume. Multiple examples given in the thread, for example, Graham 1993. Giles win Div 2 state title and goes 14-0. Closest games are Haysi and BBurg with Giles winning by a touchdown in both. Graham in 1993 throttled Blacksburg 26-14, but a game that was 26-0 at one point and Blacksburg had a last minute score to make it 13-14 points. Graham lost to an All American led Jefferson Forest team in Anthony Poindexter in a very competitive game in the semi's.
10 years from now will we look back at 2020 high school football in SWVA and say we should have played like Northeast Tenn or will Northeast Tenn say we should have locked down like Va ?? Thoughts??
Moving the season, if handled correctly, could be a blessing for teams like GC. Assuming the players have access to one, 6 extra months in the weight room could be a difference maker. 2020 should be the season of Hogs & square bodies; save the spread offenses for 2021.
Group A division 2 was Phil Robbins Land. Graham might actually have less titles at that level. Would have been one heck of a region championship game in 1995.
Disagree 100 percent. The grape flavor is something to avoid, but the cherry flavor is something I was raised on. Other than Diabetes, Heart Disease, a few rotten teeth, and a near death experience at a religious gathering in a jungle in South America, I've had no issues with it and I love the taste
Nothing about this virus has been proven. There are, however, literally THOUSANDS of reported cases of permanently compromised respiratory and circulatory functioning in those who contracted even ‘mild’ cases.
Alrighty. Thomas Jefferson lived until 1826, so what then?
The man made invaluable contributions to western civilization. The man sold his own children into slavery - but just the black ones. Idk how to reconcile those two things. I understand that the question you asked was rhetorical... maybe we just need a reboot.
If the old saying holds true then I guess ole Snake deserves partial credit for all those championships at least from Vaught era through 2015, lol. It will an interesting few weeks waiting to see who takes the helm. I think Mance got out at a good time & he'll do well for the Loris program. As I stated previously, you can only improve on a 1-9 record. The real hard job will be for the new head coach at Richlands. The last two seasons haven't been that great compared to past years but still want to have a decent showing as a first year head coach. If Webb leaves, that may be a really tough task. I say Webb stays out though. He's a tremendous talent.
It seems school board members should be educators. You wouldn’t have a board of teachers overseeing a dentist’s office. When Scott Co had no school board & a competent superintendent they were one of, if not the premier school system in the region.
Any coaching jobs coming open?
