This is about to get pretty deep and pretty dark, so feel free to skip this as TL;DR.

The premise above is that the “science” changes.  The science doesn’t, and by its definition cannot, change, so that entire argument is flawed.  Honestly, that’s a shame, because everything else flowed nicely from it.  But if the tree is poison, the fruit borne by it will also be poison.

What has changed is our public policy, which has been comically inept ever since the SJWs started slinging the word “xenophobe” at Trump when he banned all international travel from China on 1/27/20.  First, the world collectively freaked out and flipped the “off” switch on society.  I said at the time that the overreaction was too draconian and too brisk, but it is what it is.  Second, the narrative was “15 days to slow the spread”, which was 2 months too late.  Once the virus found its way into Washington, that was it.  Third, the narrative was “mask up” to prevent the spread.  The data backing up the idea is very sound and very stable, but it requires people to pull in the same direction.  By this time, the issue was politicized, and the Orange Man’s sociopathy and desire to create schism drew the battle lines.  Fourth, the narrative is to vaccinate, and again, there are almost a billion data points worldwide that show just how damn successful vaccination is against this scourge.  89+% of hospitalizations are unvaccinated.  97+% of ICU patients are unvaccinated.  99+% of deaths are unvaccinated.  Yet, populists spew this unsupportable narrative about “my choice” (which oddly enough, for most, is the exact opposite of their stances on abortion, etc.), despite the fact that “your choice” may very well kill someone.  At the very best, the collective “your choice” is keeping me from getting routine orthopedic work performed.

Science doesn’t change.  Observe, research, hypothesize, test, analyze, report.  The issue is, in a society that struggles with forgiveness and instant gratification, the Flip-Flop-Faucis and Orange Men of the world set themselves up to be gods worshipped by their theocrats.

Too many have been duped.  Enough have been duped to where I think national discourse will not recover in my lifetime.  The powder keg was in place; COVID-19 was the fuse that lit it.

There are lots of products / meds that are used in animals and humans for the same reason and for different reasons. Insulin is one. They just vary the concentration between human and animal. Ivermectin is another. Is it horse de-wormer? Yes. Does it have other useful purposes in humans? Yes. The part that is troubling to me is that someone is controlling the media to the point that whenever an alternative or proactive treatment is showing positive treatment to Covid the Liberal slanted media (perhaps on orders from above) immediately describes in such a negative way and pathetically distorts facts. Then they have to back off when several months later the treatment that they attacked is actually approved as one way to help either prevent or lessons the effects of Covid. It just smells as if they are trying to push that the one and only way to attack covid is thru the vaccine and all others are some kind of voodoo.

It is not an approved treatment-it is under evaluation.  The FDA also evaluated hydroxicholorquine in the same manner and determined it is not effective.

Or, you know, you can get the f***ing shot that’s (1) free, (2) not designed to treat parasites in farm animals, and (3) will cut your risk of death by 98+%.  That beats any alleged benefit at eating horse worm paste.

Normally, I wouldn’t reply to this sheer stupidity, but I’m tired to seeing my friends die.

It literally says approved doses OR amounts reported from clinical trials.  All this means is that they are studying the effectiveness of ivermectin. You can find the statement below precisely one click away.

You make your statement sound as if there is Zero, Nada, Zilch we can do to prevent Covid's assault on any team it chooses simply by chance. Therefore, I AM Not beating a dead horse, I am simply saying, if you want to play bad enough, get the needle in your arm.
Gazillionith time....if you get the shot, u do not need to quarantine if you've been exposed. This means, if the entire team gets the shot, you will not have one game cancelled. Why bring it up? Because people continue to post as if we are powerless with Covid cancelling games and that's untrue. We actually do have a method to prevent cancelled games.
It is ok and fine, nothing wrong with a person's choice to get or not get the vaccine. It's their decision. But, it's pretty clear if you don't get vaxd, the odds are high your team will shut down at some point. Because a person chose to make that decision to not get vaxd, is it really ok to complain when Covid cancels your game? I have no pity on any team that is cancelled because of Covid. They made their choice not to get the vax.

It is impossible to know everything there is to know about a novel virus.
It is also impossible to know everything there is to know about a vaccine for a novel virus.

That being said, color me skeptical that people who guzzle down the newest flavor of Mountain Dew without question are suddenly concerned about how long the Covid vaccine has been researched.  It is much more likely that there is a subset of the population whose anger/defiance/distrust of “authority” has been taken advantage of by bad actors.

Someone with your vast intellect should understand the difference between the NYT and NYPost editorial pages and actual news.

But to a greater point, the problem with “news” today is that there is no room to breathe and assess. People want things immediately. They want quotes and takes and expert opinions immediately and sometimes that is not possible to do with 100% accuracy.  It has been impressive to watch the smear job of Fauci, whose only crime seems to have been being an “expert” in a time where expertise is devalued and parsed by outside sources looking to promote outrage and celebrate ignorance.

Japan has never approved the use of Ivermectin for treating COVID-19.  There’s no data suggesting it treats COVID-19, and has hellacious side effects such as hallucinations, tremors, and hypoxia.

FWIW, Ivermectin won nothing in 2015.  Medicines don’t win those prizes, people do.  William C. Campbell and Satoshi Omuta won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine “for their discoveries concerning a novel therapy against infections caused by roundworm parasites”.  I’m almost certain COVID-19 is not a roundworm parasite.  Using that as an argument is laughable.  It would be akin to saying that Biaxin is a valid COVID-19 treatment because Barry J. Marshall and J. Robin Warren won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2005 showing how Biaxin fought H. pylori bacteria.

I do offer a sincere apology for publicly sharing the harshness of my opinion. I just feel strongly that not calling out the ignorance, willful disregard of common sense, and convenient cherry-picking of irrelevant details to support your narrative, I would be compromising my own beliefs.

Our public figures, in both political persuasions, have done a borderline unethical job of setting public expectations for this virus.  One of the things Flip-Flop Fauci actually did correctly was to temper expectations for the vaccine, because the results wouldn't be a known quantity for some time.  It was unclear if the vaccine would work like the flu vaccine (significantly cut the risks) or like the measles vaccine (wipe the sucker out).  Turns out, the results are more akin to the flu vaccine, which is A-OK.  However, expectations were set at an impossible level.

What I cannot agree with is that the "bar was lowered".  mRNA vaccine technology has existed since 1991.  There was a SARS vaccine (COV-1) that was about 90% done but shelved due to the lack of presence in Asia for some time.  The whole "we don't know the long-term effects" is a complete red herring, plain and simple.  We have known for some time that the supposed "long term" effects of a vaccine usually manifest extremely quickly.  Lo and behold, that's exactly what happened here.  We found out that the J&J vaccine will cause blood clots in a microscopic percentage for women.  Moderna #2 will make a lot of folks feel cruddy for about 24 hours.  And, that's it.  If anything "bad" was going to happen, it would have happened in the first 340M data points.

To fit your analogy, it's not like 60% suddenly constituted an A.  It's more like you took a 3-week summer course that would normally be a 3-hour fall/spring course.  You still learned everything you needed to learn, and the final exam was just as hard.  But it passed, not with an A, but probably with a B+.

It’s not just selfish, it’s defiant, weaponized ignorance. How many of these people look at the weather app before making decisions? How many of these people had an MRI or a CT scan based on the advice of an expert? It makes zero sense to not trust science, but they can’t look past their cognitive dissonance when they have snake oil salesmen and TV preacher hacks telling them that the science of a vaccine is a lie.
