Targeting in high school is any contact above the shoulder. Doesn’t matter with what the defender hits them with: Helmet, shoulder pad, or a forearm. The targeting is called because of the contact above the shoulders.

Isn't the Principal's brother the basketball and baseball coach? What better way to help your brother out than to hire a less adequate so that basketball and baseball do well!

Evolve or die. We live in the 21st Century. We have video Hudl on the field and turf fields. They exist today use them. Its Dec. 1 we have had rain and snow and the fields are trashed. Play on the best field PERIOD!! Emory is 15 min from Chilhowie they were the home host going 15 minutes to a field that is in Perfect Shape isnt too much to ask. Evolve, don't talk about 90s football 80s football BS. There weren't turf fields so teams had to play on them. If turf fields had been at Wise, Emory, Salem, Bluefield etc games would have been played on them. But they didn't exist. Evolve or die.

When was Reed's best year at Abingdon?? The year they played Lord Botetourt. Who called his offense that year?? Who came with him when he first got the Abingdon job? What was the difference in Reed at Wise Central and Reed at Abingdon....NICK COLOBRO!!! People who know, know why Abingdon was successful and they know why Reed started his decline at Abingdon, they also know why Luke Owens went 6-4 the year after Reed left at Central.... think about it!

You are certainly entitled to your opinion and I totally respect it. But the facts are not what you may think they are. The kids you are speaking of learned toughness from many other things. Reed didn't show up one day and Jake Sturgill was a 2 time all state QB. Matthew Fulton wasn't beast of a running back. Derrick Yates didn't just become a college prospect because he showed up and the list could go on.
The current list of players who are seniors and started out in Reed's system didn't become tough and hard nosed because of his system. That trait came from playing together since they were 6 years old in flag football. That trait came from them becoming a band of brothers all the way through their youth league days, middle school, and JV. There were many other factors involved than saying "he toughened them up".
Consider this:
2014 8-2 Colobro/ Amburgey on staff the year Reed is named head coach
2015 9-1 Colobro/ Amburgey on staff
2016 9-1 Colobro/ Amburgey on staff
2017 6-4 Colobro/ Amburgey NOT on staff
2018 8-2 Amburgey named head coach
On a footnote: "Give them a couple years...they be back to being soft again" This sounds like wishful thinking.

You could go on and on with that list of multi-sport athletes.
Ahmad Bradshaw was a heck of a basketball defender.
Heath Miller was a great basketball player and baseball player think he only struck out 1 time his senior year.
Both Jones Brother's played basketball and ran track.
Josh Warren was a heck of basketball player.
Calvin Talford was a great football player, baseball player, and broke records in track.

I thought reason Amburgey and Colobro both left was because Reed took over play calling that season and pretty much started doing it all like he did at Central when he went 1-9...so the playoff loss wasn't really on Amburgey or Colobro but more of Reed taking over total control because of failure to delegate or handle someone else getting credit for any success. Then after he ran them of he went to the smash mouth football scheme.

Actually I have noticed as girls get older they tend to get worse in sports. Either burnt out from parents pushing them travel when they were young, finding boys, having social lives, or just lose interest as they mature...

In years past, in Bristol, if an athlete repeated the 8th grade, they went to an institute we had called Tri-cities Christian. They are no longer around, so I'm not sure what kids do nowadays. At least over the last few years, VHS has not really had any prominent athetes be held back, that i know of. Unless it happened well before 8th grade. We're not usually associated with holding back. We're more of the "Recruiting for baseball" type lol

All this drama must have caused them to lose to Virginia High last night...either that, or V-High is better than Graham, or, that "one official" that's always there...

Last I checked. They hired 5 assistants. Not 3. 4 of which, not 2 are on provisionals. #FactCheck

That's not exactly how I take it. Once Barry arrived, PV was 7-0 in title games, and 0-1 once he left. Truth is, he maintained an intensity and focus on Defense that was not matched from the time he left until PV closed...and it was projected on and through the guys that played for him. There is no doubt in my mind that had he still been the DC in 2004, PV would have gone 9-0 in title games instead of 8-1. Under him, players were always put in a position to make plays and win games. Wasn't always the case once he was gone.

Colobro is the difference between Reed at Central and Reed at Abingdon. I think in 1 more year after this one ,that difference may show again for Reed.....
