Something changed. Not sure what or why. It is now Saturday at 1 pm.

As stated here multiple times, until the Little League program has a complete overhaul to get kids interested at an earlier age, there won’t be much success.  GC needs multiple seasons like last year to build momentum and attract players walking the halls while developing the elementary age kids at the same time.

Starting QB, and only experienced senior, went down early in the 1st with an ankle injury. They had a few seniors come over from basketball but none have played since little league. Had a couple in quarantine, including Jenkins who is their speedster. Youth and inexperience across the line. Rough night for sure. 

With the last part, you hit the nail on the head.  The county receives from state and federal funds more than 4 times the money it invests per student.  So, for every student that leaves because of a tuition fee, the school system will lose around $8500.  The county's net loss would be around $7000 per student.  My understanding is that the BOS pays the local fee, but doesn't see any of the state or federal money because it is sent straight to the school system.  If that is the case, all the county's taxpayers are still seeing a return in money for their school due to the state and federal money being a much larger amount than the local share...plus, all the state and local funding is sent to the school board, not the individual schools.  But, because of the way the money is accounted for, it's hard to explain that to someone who doesn't understand the way the school system is funded to begin with.

You should have to be .500 or better to go to playoffs, if there are not enough teams, the top teams in region get a bye, but we know it’s all about the $$$$ to the VHSL

That seems to be the trouble with a lot of kids. Parents don't get involved enough to make them see things out. I really believe when a kid starts a sport they need to see it through. I see it all too often though.

I'll go ahead and say it. Akers was never given full control of the team.  I know it's not a popular belief but it is true. He would make decisions only to be told by a couple higher ups it would not happen. I saw some of it first hand. I'm really hoping it don't happen with Jeremy. All I do know now is it will take time. 

The man did his best & moved on. I’m sorry as can be for getting on here & running him down - it didn’t do anything but make me look like a fool. Only time the man’s name should be mentioned is to wish him well at his new job.
I don’t speak for anyone but myself, but I’m thankful for EVERY coach at GC, from LL to varsity. We’re damned lucky to have who we have.

Got to see two D talents on TV this weekend.  
The QB from Graham, Allen got disqualified on a Targeting call (which I thought was bad, if a QB is going to wait till late to slide then he isn't defenseless).  Was cool seeing him out there for Purdue as a true freshman.
Also saw Unions, James Mitchell make a big catch for Tech on their win over the Canes. 
 
Region C's, Javon Scruggs (Appomattox) made and interception in the end zone and returned it like 72 or 78 yards in a close game for Liberty. 
 
Nice to see our VA talent out dong well. 

Just found out 100% it will be Bob Green.

Was really worried about this game.
 
Nothing but respect for Gate City players, fans, and program altogether. Kids played hard to the end, and the fans cheered the whole way thru. Even the band kept playing long after the final whistle. You guys have always been the gold standard of what SWVA football is all about. 
 
Best of luck going forward! I'll definitely be cheering for you guys. 

Nobody from GC is satisfied with 1 win this year but the fact that who that 1 win was over and how GC has competed in most of the games thus far is reason to be excited.  The reason the kid you seem to have a problem with has to come out for a break is he plays the whole game.  They have no depth which is a sign of the struggles they will have next year.  Go back to the Richlands game and tell me who’s hands the ball was in the 4th quarter.  First down after first down and about 8 minutes later, TD.  That ended up being the game winner before the comeback Richlands made and GC picked off the pass.  The qb has had opportunities to run the ball.  GC has threats with Jenkins on the outside and Calhoun on the inside.  They ALL are playing where they should and it shows with the competitiveness on the field.  Just my opinion.

Moving said rb from the line back to fullback was the best decision Jeremy has made. No way he needs to be at OG. Jeremy has my full support in anything he does. As does most GC fans. It's a long way back to being the GC of old and will not happen over night. But I believe it will happen in the future. It just takes time. 

Maybe GC would greatly improve their team by putting current QB at running back. The kid was a outstanding running back last year for GC.  The QB from last year is on the team also playing TE.  The current QB had over 700 yards rushing in only 6+ games.  last year.  The QB from last year can handle handed the ball off and even provide some passing game.  Not a smart move to move one of the district best players in a role to only be a small role player.  Also,  a current RB would be much better suited for OG.  Who is the HEAD coach at GC?
 

back in my day you paid for any personal fouls or unsportsman like penaltys with penalty busters the following week. this consisted of startig at one end of the field and doing updown at every white line or every 5 yards. you did this up the field and back down every day after practice which meant you ran with the rest of the team then had to do this after. do that for a week and you would think twice about fighting or talkng trash

Schools already don't enough money to fund basic teacher needs etc.  My company donates money to local schools and we take requests from teachers for needs they have.  It is shameful that teachers have simple needs that may be $100-$200 but the school is unable to fulfill them.  I'm glad we are able to do something about it but bottom line is school systems are grossly underfunded.

How about we don’t bring politics into this, please. There are goofy people on both sides. 

Speaking of excessive noise, a thing I have noticed over the past few seasons is the PA system playing more "canned" music, even to the point of doing so while one of the two present bands are trying to play. I say use the PA sparingly for "canned" music and let our excellent musicians provide the soundtrack.
