Yeah I’m like you, I’m not real comfortable with the way some of the adults on this board talk about a high school kid 

Might be unpopular, but I'm not a fan of reducing playoff games. Most kids career ends at the high school level, and eight teams means more get to experience playoff football. 
I thought benefit games just raise money for a charity or a school, didn't know the VHSL took a cut. Get rid of them. 
 
I also like the idea of no byes before week five (maybe four for logistical reasons). I think after week six is perfect, enough time to gel before and enough games to get rhythm back going into the playoffs, but I know not all teams can take their bye in same week. Weeks four thru seven should be the bye for all teams. 
Nixing year round practices and stuff needs to be top on the agenda. It's ridiculous. One sport specialization is not doing the kids any favors. 

I do think that the smaller schools (enrollment) suffer greatly from year round activity. (in any sport).  Kids need to be kids and play multiple sports.  College coaches look for those kids who have played multiple sports when recruiting kids.  Even the big linemen can benefit from wrestling or throwing the shot put.   

It can be summed up pretty simply in most cases I think.  They all follow the Golden Rule.  He who has the gold makes the rules.  I know this political fact was the case several years ago at Tazewell with one coach in particular.  Also a certain sideline doctor got ticked off about his girl not playing volleyball after she was rightly suspended for something and he defected up the road.  Makes me sick that he is back now. 
Very easy to get rid of a coach not doing what you want him to do if the team is average or even above average when the purse strings are overflowing from some high members of society.  Much easier to ignore when you are bringing titles or championships back.  Problem is most coaches aren't given long enough to turn the program.

How many of the folks in the thread can be seen in the infamous viral video from Wise County sandlot a couple of years ago?  I mean, odds are pretty high for at least one, amirite?

Sounds like you're suggesting Galax will overlook PH.  Galax has won five consecutive Region C titles with only one state championship game appearance in that span.  I wouldn't count on Dixon to overlook anybody with a 1-4 record in the last 5 state semifinals.

As for the M7 being better than the SWD..... Virginia High didn’t tuck their tails and head north to play Richlands, Graham, Tazewell and Marion on longer road trips so their players could take in the culture of far north SW Virginia.  Especially when Battle is like 5 minutes away, Gate City is 30 min away and Abingdon i is 15 min away.  That is the definition of tucking tail and running right there.

The mother of a Grayson athlete works in my office.  The Tuesday following Grayson’s 57-0 drubbing at the hands of Galax, she said to me.....”if everybody can’t have NFL players coaching and teaching weight training, nobody should be able to! It’s not fair for Galax to cheat like that.  They are too big and too strong to bully those poor Grayson kids that way!”
If you think these mothers don’t carry weight in the changing of the game at every level, you’re naive! Just saying, I don’t agree with it but it’s the changing landscape of the world we live in!

Same could be said for Union. Neither team looking very good. 

30 minutes to kickoff in Galax and we only have 1 football team!

I like it. It's a change from the regular season and a treat for the boys to get to play on a Saturday. Not many will get to do that in their life. 

It has to be bottom up.  Daddy ball is always gonna be a thing (who else is gonna volunteer that much?) but the program and ultimately the kids have to come first. 

If you go to the doctor/nurse practicioner/veterinarian and complain of a headache and tell them you play football I can guarantee you they are going to diagnose you with a concussion.
