IIRC, they played that Michigan team very close. Any other team, ETSU could've beaten but that combo of Webber, Rose and Howard were unguardable without having an insane amount of talent. With Jennings, that 92 team could've made a deep run in the tourney.

I still have a signed Jennings Golden State Warriors rookie card around here somewhere. He signed it Keith Mister Jennings.

Legend, the year you speak of Calvin getting hurt was 91, which was Misters SR year.  They had been ranked 10th in the country even with Greg Dennis missing all but one game of the season and taking a medical redshirt.  Calvin was injured against The Citadel in the opening game for ETSU in the SoCon tourney.  I think before NCAA seeding ETSU was ranked around 17th in the country but ended up being given a 10 seed and had to face Acie Earl and Iowa.  Lost by 3 76-73.  Was  a shame they were given a 10 seed that year.

SWVAFB, I was fortunate enough at that time my parents got season tickets for ETSU for a couple of years when they were so good.  They were an absolute blast to watch and follow as we went to quite a few away games as well.  In 92 when they faced Arizona it was played at the Omni in Atlanta so we got tickets and went to the game.  Stayed in ATL after the win and got to watch them play the Fab Five in the second round when Webber and crew were freshman.

Hey guys, it is hard sometimes for us Ole Vietnam guys to understand the guys of the
Milliluim age. I don't think it is the napalm that is clouding my thinking, but people
Just don't think the same now as back in the sixties. Tatos were not a fashion statement
Then, like they are now, but a symbol of peace and love of country. Later, dudes

This is 100% true for Lowe. Burnout is real, and if your hearts not in it, it's better to not play. Lowe played through some nagging injuries throughout the football season, he probably just wants to heal.

    Burnout.

These kids have been lifting and training virtually year-round for 4 solid years for sports. They've done camps starting in June, to play through basketball season, ending sometime in March. They've come off a pretty humiliating defeat in a state title game in the sport that is obviously their #1.

It's not fun anymore, and when a game stops being fun and starts being a chore, that's when it's easiest to walk away.

Guys,  a lot of us on here played ball when we were in high school wayyyyyyyyy back when and for some, burn out does happen.
I played football in the fall, basketball in the winter and baseball in the spring and our football team was not anywhere near as good as this version of the blues so we didn't have any long playoff runs and I know by the time I was a SR,  I was getting a bit burned out.  As soon as baseball season was over my 9th through 12th grade years I would then start getting ready for football on top of working part time jobs at KFC my Sr year and Deskins supermarket bagging groceries my Jr year.
I know it took everything in me to not quit baseball my SR year,  I was tired and dealing with a nagging knee injury and I just wanted to have a little fun and be a normal student for a while and enjoy what little time I had left as a high schooler,  but I did end up staying and playing and didn't quit, partly because of my dad,   but like I said,  I didn't play probably half the football games these kids have.  With the playoff runs,  I would say they have played almost a full season worth of games more than I did.     They will be out of school and have to deal with the real world soon enough so let's let them be kids for a little longer and enjoy their short time in high school !
The Blues basketball team will be just fine.

Kids get interested in other things. They get tired of having practice every day. They are kids first and foremost. I don't blame them for taking time away from sports. They have one more semester of school before they graduate. They have colleges to apply for.. Scholarships and financial aid to try to get. So what if us old codgers don't get to see them play basketball?

I quit a team one time and told the coach while he was screaming at me where he could stick his whistle.. I didn't need an adult screaming at me . I had better things to do .. It wasn't fun anymore.

Chilhowie is currently 3-0, and playing well. They just may surprise a lot of folks this
Year. Very talented and very athletic. I think they have a good schedule with GW, Fort,
    Marion, Galax, and Eastside.

Good luck Richlands. Hoping you folks can pull a miracle off. All I can offer is 1 Corinthians 9:24 - "Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize." The prize listed there is obviously Heaven, but it works in an athletic context also. Richlands, play in such a way as to win this game. Shorten the game. Make nothing easy. Secure the football. Take the game one play at a time.

There is some different listing service front the VHSL as related to Galax's enrollment
Numbers. Different parts of " official " numbers are different.

I would think based on past figures for this city school, the ADM would be closer to 273,
And not 400 students. Their are not many 400+ schools in A1. They are George Wythe, Chilhowie,
Eastside, Patrick Henry, Auburn, and Grundy(next year). Ft Chiswell and Radford are moving to A2
Next year. Both are over the 475 cap for A1.

300+ schools are Honaker, Rural Retreat,Parry McCluer, and Holston.

The remaining schools are 200+ and below according to VHSL figures. Galax would be in this group
Along with about 10 other schools. It is very confusing as to exactly what the enrollment is for
Galax. My opinion it would be about 275 for this year.

Tomorrow many will be with family and friends enjoying good food and fellowship.  Thanksgiving is a time for reflection of our year.  It has been a tumultuous year for our nation, but hopefully with the election OVER,  we can move on as Americans and pray for our President-elect, pray for our military and police officers who sacrifice for our safety and even the right to protest.  Pray for a healing of our nation that it will come together as Americans who honor and respect our constitution and our flag.  Without these vanguards, boundaries are thrown into chaos.   The constitution is our heart and the flag is our eyes to the world.  May they always be strong and true.

Most of all, it is a time to thank God for his blessings on our lives, our health, our families and know that all things were created by and for him.  We are made in his image and his will is that all should come to know him personally.

Michah 6:8 sums up how we are to live----"He has showed you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God."

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING

I was watching the TV last night, and one of the sports anchors said GW was the best team
That he had seen this year. I totally agree that GW is a darn good team this year. I don't
Know what the West brackets looks like, but it may come down to GW and Galax for the best
    In the West.

Patrick Henry will have RB Humphrey back for this game, but GW just has to many horses
To pull off the upset,in my opinion. Coach Palmer has done a great job at PH, but GW has
one of best teams in SWVA. GW is just about in a class by themselves when they play up
    To Their potential.

Well folks, I read in the newspaper yesterday that Tazewell football Head Coach Allen had been
Fired. The news did not surprise me, as rumors had been saying that changes were on the way. Well
Folks, for those that wanted change, you got it.

As many had said, when one door closes, another door opens. That is true in this case. Coach Allen
Will be missed by his players and friends that knew him best. I would think that he brought more
Positive influences to the program than negatives. Coach Allen legacy will be one of hard work and
Dedication to a program he loved, and to the players he worked so hard to help influence their
Lives in a positive way. Coach Allen can lift his head high today, knowing he gave it his all to
The young men and sport he loved. He will be missed by those who knew him as a friend, and did
Not count his success by win or losses, but by his character and desire in win for the kids he
    Loved.

Folks, the revolving door in the Head Coaches office at THS has to stop at some point. Winning
Appears to be the main common denominator in all these Coaching changing, but what has been the
Results? A firm foundation was set by Coach Allen I presume, just like most Coaches. A foundation
That called for winning, but also for building character and self esteem in his young men that he
    Coached.

Well, here we go again. The search is on for another Head Football Coach at Tazewell. Seems like
I have heard that phrase before. To the new Coach, I wish whoever it is The very best in producing a winning team in terms of wins and loses at Tazewell. If you don't, well That bus that Coach Allen was kicked under, well, you will probably find yourself under it too if You lose more games than you win.

May God Bless Coach Allen, and May God lead him in the right direction for the sport he loves.
