Virginia High @ Richlands II

Had Richlands dropped 2 cycles ago (4 years), we could very well be talking Richlands as a 4 or 5 time state champion instead of a two time one.

 

As for this year, had Baker not went down, Richlands is 9-1 heading into the playoffs as a 2 seed. With Baker in at QB, the Union game goes the other way and I think we could have beaten Bluefield as well. We held our own up there for 2 1/2 quarters, and I whole heartedly believe Baker is the best QB in the area. We had nothing for Botetourt though. That was a buzz saw.

 

That's just the way I see it anyways.

 

Ryan,  I agree with most of what you said and would have liked our chances better with Baker,  but Michael's has gotten better and has become a threat running the ball.  He is not as fast as some,  but is a horse to bring down.  He also has done a pretty good job throwing the ball,  but our receivers ( with the exception of Brown )  have had a hard time holding on to the it.

The part I disagree with is what our record would be with Baker.  I think it would be 8-2.  I still think Bluefield beats us,  just too much speed this year for us,  but the game would probably be a little closer then what it was.

River has done a marvelous job. Not downing him one bit. And the addition of Ball and Collins at WR has helped tremendously!!! 

 

I saw the Bluefield game going either way with Baker. But that's just me.

Is it Friday night yet?????? Have you ever noticed it's about pride. Once a team starts reaching them win's the fans come to defend anything course said about their team, just a part of it. Main thing is to focus on cheering your team and not jeering the other.  Win or lose it will all be good.

Ryan and bigrhsfan that's exactly what I meant. I'm just going by what you are putting on the field now. That being said, I believe you guys still haven't played your best football. This team isn't lacking talent, just seem to be missing that killer instinct we have seen in the past. The more games they play, the scarier they become. Good luck this weekend guys

Normally I am pretty laid back on this board and most people on here knows that I have met some nice guys on here from richlands Ryan BlueRazor and Bigrhsfan to name a few so when u say I like to get people riled up that's really not the truth

Maybe I over stated your animosity overall but some of your comments toward VHS do seem to have a little more heat on them.   saying "hopefully the blues will have the cats singing the blues after this one" ising saying you hope Richlands wins, its saying you hope VHS loses.   And your quoting of jblanks response to Lance seems to be rubing it in a little. I can see how they taks such comments as attacking them. Maybe you don't mean it that way, maybe you do. Either way it comes across as tho you have a serious problem with VHS or atleast with their fans on here.

 

Maybe they are over reacting(I think they are a little) but you have provoked them. That's what I meant. Comparing you to Jethro was over the line, I was just stating that both of you make some harsh statements, not that you incite like he does.

Thanks barondog! I can promise you even though we are heated rivals especially on the football field and basketball court. We pull for you guys when it don't effect us. Last year me and my family.....10 football players and about twenty more friends came up to cheer you guys on against the falcons. Sure we are not going to agree all the time but we will defend and pull for our neighbers.

 

Getting back to the game. You are right about the intensity level.....it just hadn't been there until about two weeks ago. They are getting better. Our biggest problem for sure in my opinion is lack of speed. Va High has us there for sure. Brown will get his yards I think. Our key to winning is how well our defensive backs play. Zeke and Benny do a fine job there but in my opinion they must be great Friday Night. The old saying rings true for this game......BIG TIME PLAYERS SHOW UP AND PLAY IN BIG TIME GAMES!!

This is the biggest game so far this year. Bearcats have big time players and so does the Blues. Friday Night we will see who wants it the most.

I would be careful about casting those stones...I can give you a whole bunch of first hand experience about "chants" from your fans that are a whole helluva lot worse than "USA".  And they came from grown men and fans and students.  I'd think twice about opening that can or worms on here.

Like i said that's just my last visit, time before that it was at a football scrimmage and there were kids from VHS over on the visitors side yelling a bunch of stuff and fighting ...cops finally came over and broke it all up. It's always something. 

 

And whatever you guys are going on about GC and Appy, I am not sure exactly what that has to do with anything, but it doesn't justify the way you act? or was that not the point you were making?

 

As far as this being a Richlands fan site...I've heard it called a lot of things over the past 10+ years but that isn't one of them lol...congrats on coming up with that one.

The issues I mentioned with regards to other schools, had to do with us seemingly being singled out for "bad behavior". I posted the incidents that I was personally familiar with to show that while we might have some bad apples, a lot worse has happened elsewhere.

 

I called it a Richlands fan site because it seems like most of the posters here have some connection to that school and outnumber the rest of us. In any event, we've moved on from that, so God only knows why you even brought it up, but whatever.

 

You can stand on whatever you want, doesn't mean it's true, doesn't mean we're the school full of bad apple fans. While we might have our share of rowdy's, in my personal experience, Gate City's fans are far and away the most hostile and obnoxious and make our worst fans seem like choirboys. I think you are just anti-VHS and your bias is clouding your judgement and I will stand on that.

Hey.........I was helping coach GC's 8th grade football team many years ago, when our bus was hit with rocks going to a game at Pennington.........all Pennington/Lee High fans must be bad.........right?  JOKE.

You know........it seems some people on this board need to take a step back and realize a few things.

 

 

#1 You are not in High School anymore. Unfortunately kids in High School do things that we just can't explain. I'm guilty of a few of those myself.

 

#2 Just because you have had a bad experience with some "fans" from another school, odds are the entire fan base is not "bad". ALL schools have their bad apples. No doubt a "bad fan experience" could be told about EVERY school.

 

#3 You need to let go of things that happened to you in High School. Those days are over and gone. Heck, at one point you used to crap in your own clothes. You got over that.

 

#4 How well your school does on Friday night or Saturday afternoon does NOT really change who you are. Well, it shouldn't. If it does, you probably need professional help.

Sorry for my rant.

 

One of my BIG pet peeves is when an entire group is judged based on the actions of a few members of that group. The group can be GC fans, a minority, "rednecks", or whatever. That has just never made sense to me.

 

Of course I also can't stand it when someone uses almost all of the ice in an ice tray and doesn't fill it back up. Or, when someone leaves just a tad of coffee in the pot here at work. If you leave less than a full mug of coffee in the pot, pour it out and make a new pot.

 

 

 

During the past 2-3 years, I have seen the police have to escort VA High "fans" out of the GC gym because of their behavior. One enraged "fan" tried to get on the floor. Obviously this doesn't make the entire fan base bad. Would also be crazy of me to judge any VA High fan, I might meet in the future, based on the action of these "fans".
