I'm just glad GC played Lebanon last night instead of Central, Battle, or Union....let alone Graham. Devils would have been taking an early seat. And no offense to Lebanon cause those kids played their butts off.

Great City...playing against Gate City in the late 70s and early 80s was “a unique experience” to say the least. Our players and fans were exposed to all manner of intimidation attempts, slurs (racial and otherwise), and verbal attacks from the fans. Didn’t matter the sport either. We took it as a challenge. Our coaches warned us to not get caught up in the environment there. I always looked forward to playing at GC because of the extra incentive of trying to shut up the 35 year old letterman jacket wearing loudmouths in the stands. But I never recall any cheap shots by the players; physical play, yes. Cheap shots, no. What does that have to do with this current debate? Not much. Just some firsthand historical experiences.

Not contradicting stories just 2 different years. Lets just say I had a closer to seat to the action than most people in this chat. 2017-2018 the year McClung was at his peak, I heard first hand with my own 2 ears as the players were going to the lockerroom McCamis look at one of his kids and tell them not to let McClung dunk again and to put him on the floor(take his legs out) before they let him dunk on them again. Once again I know a handful of Central players personally and have hungout with some of them off the floor and they're a cool people. I feel their coach is the reason for the way they play and if they had a coach that was actually concerned about making them better and trying to help each kid individually and then as a team they would be dangerous. Whenever Wise decides to take a serious look in the mirror and do away with that whole coaching staff then only then will they succeed.

VA HIGH lost 2 full time starters, which 1 was as a pitcher from last season. They return 7 field starters, and entire pitching staff outside of Griffith. Will be very strong offensively and defensively this season. With the return of Aaron Rose at catcher, who didn't play last season, the offensive order has speed and power! Seven of the front line players have 3-4 years starting varsity experience. Depth will be an issue if there are injuries!
