JDHoss got a reaction from Bluefield researcher in Church Hill TN school colors
Quincy is correct. Navy Blue & Gold. Only old people like us would remember that.

JDHoss got a reaction from BigWinners in Gate City ...Why not State Champs this year?
PV state title team:
Barry Hamler
Jimmy Mitchell
Robin Pleasant
Jerry Meyers
Dennis Davis
Grayland "Catbird" Jackson....hero of the state title game.

JDHoss got a reaction from 1inStripes in Maryville's George Quarles steps down
The competition in the Middle TN area wasn't why he left, but it's a true statement about the rising talent. The Nashville Metro area is absolutely exploding in terms of growth right now.

In addition, Barry's wife still works at the USPS in Kingsport, and she and Barry are Kingsport natives. At this point in their lives, I doubt they would be interested in pulling up stakes to move to Tazewell.

JDHoss got a reaction from RCITYHOO in Quick Question
Recruit from where? And to what? Don't recall seeing much industry to speak of in Appomattox. I'm guessing that a lot of the people there may work in Lynchburg, My guess is that they are just having a good run of athletes right now.

JDHoss reacted to futbolking in Quick Question
Having lived in Farmville for 3 years (20 minutes from Appomattox)... I can say that there is no shortage of athletes in that area. I don't feel like they would need to recruit. I think they just have the right coach.

I saw Union 3 times, Richlands twice, Graham twice, and Gate City once this year. I have to say that there is no comparison to the vintage PV/Appy/Graham/GC/Richlands teams in terms of sheer physicality. Those teams were just so big and physical up front on both sides of the football that it more than made up for any lack of athleticism in the skill positions. I remember Lunnenburg's Chippie Chapple (at least I think that was his name) explaining why he went for two and the win instead of kicking and getting to OT when he said "they (PV) had 4 and 5 yarded us to death all day long, and I didn't think we could win a battle of 10 yard shootouts with them, so we went for the win."

Went to the Abingdon - Richlands game, and we were wondering about those pooch kickoffs. Thanks for explaining that. We couldn't understand why they were willing to concede Richlands great field position. Great game though. This was our 14th game we've been to this year, and the first one that wasn't a blowout, or at least over halfway through the 4th quarter.

Been to games at Camden Co. and at Valdosta. Both were real eye openers in terms of the amount of talent on the field and the facilities.

Yeah, my buddy just sent me a text about it. If there not a game you want to go to in SWVA on any given Friday, it's worth the drive over to watch the Pirates play if they are at home.

JDHoss got a reaction from SuperX in Union @ Clarke Co
I'd guess that the fan ratio will be about like it was at Nandua in 1996. They let PV have the home side stands, while Northampton probably had around 300 or so on the visitors side. In the past, I have watched PV, Appy, JJK, Clintwood and Gate City win state titles away from home, and in every case, had more fans than the opposition. There's no other area in the state who follows their teams like the SWVA folks.

Your son was the running back? He's a tough one. Mind if I ask how tall he is? He gives new meaning to running with your pads low.

I told my wife that he was probably around 5'5 or so. I love watching kids like that. He's a good one.

Here in Orlando it's Daytona Beach Mainland (ranked 13th nationally by MaxPreps) 14 Dr. Phillips 7 at the half. Looking forward to the 4th qtr fireworks show put on by Universal Studios, which is just across the street from us. They supposedly stop play until the fireworks are done.

Someone told me that next year, instead of having regular seasons, Union & Richlands have agreed to play 10 straight weeks and CBS will televise the games in prime time, touting the games as a new drama series....
