Im definitely not going to make the claim that Mac is an NBA player.....im just hoping he does well in college.  But to make the Power 5 comment when it comes to college basketball and claim hes not a Power 5 type player.....explain to me what other 5 conferences are better than the Big East?   Ill be waiting a long time to hear a response I guarantee it.   If he can do well in the BE, he could play in any conference in the country and hold his own.   At this point i just hope he has a successful career for the Hoyas and makes SWVA proud....but IMO he is by all accounts a "Power 5" type player.  That has nothing to do with being an NBA player....totally different animal. 
Theres only one conference thats clearly better than the Big East from top to bottom in basketball and thats the ACC. Id take the best 5 teams from the Big East over any of the other conferences aside from the ACC and feel very good about it.  
 
 

So, I was talking to an assistant coach in the region last night who I am good friends with, who gave me the supposed formula for calculating the basketball power points.  For Region D anyway.
Using the formula he gave me and the schedules and results that @Beamerball has posted, I have come up with my best guess as to what the 2D power points are as he we head down the home stretch of games.
These are as of completion of the Ridgeview/Union game from last night.
Couple of notes:  I guessed at a lot of the out of state opponents, especially Gate City's Arby's opponents and Central girl's Disney opponents.  Also, I am basing this off of an average like football and not the total number of points, because there is no way all teams are going to play the same number of games.

3-10 doesn't really matter

I spoke to some friends in the Roanoke area about the issues with Cave Spring.  I just don't remember all of the details from that far back.  It seems, Cave Spring played a game at the Roanoke Civic Center in conjunction with the old NBA D-League Roanoke Dazzle.  Cave Spring played someone followed by a Dazzle game for a promotional deal to help the struggling NBDL franchise where Cave Spring apparently picked up some of the gate proceeds. 
For many reasons, that would be a very different situation than what we have here with Gate City.

I diploma from Rutgers will look a hell of a lot better than a diploma from Marshall & ETSU combined......

OK...if you haven't noticed, I've jumped on the MM bandwagon.  The kid is good.  If the big boys don't come knocking on his door soon, one of the smaller schools is going to get an electric player.  I've been watching lots of videos...he can run the floor, handle the ball, makes some great passes, is a danger to score from anywhere on the floor...guard him close and he'll blow by you for an easy dunk or layup, lay off him and he'll splash a three in your face.  Honestly, I'm shocked that the local big boy schools haven't already come knockin', he's a legit high D-1 player from what I've seen on video.

It's ok to give someone not from Graham credit, I promise it won't kill you.

That and every call in SWVA period. Not a single referee is worth a damn in this state. Very inconsistent, trying to take the game in their own hands at times it seems. That play that was shortly before the "block" that was called on Drew where Mac dribbled the ball behind his back that was called a travel was hilariously awful. It's as if these ref's haven't seen anything of that caliber before so it must be a foul, right?

EZ.............I agree. Two young teams battled last night. Believe the reserves Scotty played the most last night were two freshman and a sophomore. Both should be scary good next year.
 
Collier had a great game....despite getting in foul trouble early. He missed 2-3 easy put backs, but Graham had a little to do with that.
 
The pressure rattled the freshman Dean. Especially during the 3rd quarter. Just some growing pains.
 
Congrats to Ervin. Got his 1,000 point as a sophomore.
 
Seems that drawing a charge is a lost art. We did take a couple of charges last night, but it seemed that many times when we had good position, we would move and try to block a shot. #52 is good, but if we would have stood our ground earlier, he would have fouled out quickly.
 
Was surprised that we had a little problem at times with Graham's press. We had handled pressure well all year. No doubt Scotty will work on that this week.
 
However.......at the end of the day we played a great game against a great team and get to play again.

Congrats to Richlands for getting things back and winning tonight. Good luck down the road.

Do not think it would be that shocking.
 
Prob not a lot of difference between GC-Union-Richlands-Graham. This time of year it normally comes down to who makes their shots, and stays out of foul trouble. I would not be surprised if any of those 4 teams win.
 
Being a GC fan, I sure hope playing at home gives us an edge.

Neither team is winning or losing by 20. Just not gonna happen. Both teams are too good for that.

This game is the best game on schedule tonight IMO. It is a real crap shoot. Anyone could win and I do not think any one team has the edge over the other. I'd give Union the edge though since they have been playing pretty decent while Richlands has been fluttering as of late. I feel like all that is going to change thought tonight. Richlands fighting for that ever so elusive first Region win (Hard to believe).
 
Basically, winner get an easy draw for the next game... well easier. You won't see Mavahi! haha

Any information of Slagles' playing? Although, I thought union played very well as a team without him against GC. Other players stepped up and took and hit shots. But I hope the kid is alright. He is one heck of a player! If he is healthy, history may have to wait.

VHS over the Dream Team?!?  In the post season?  And it was not on the diamond?  Russian involvement? 

I've been around high school sports long enough to know that anybody can beat anybody on any given night.  These are kids we are talking about.  If a good team comes i with the right game plan, it can be done.  I wouldn't crown Gate City state champions just yet.  They still have to get past Graham, Richlands and Union....which are all very capable teams.  Also, the usual suspects in Martinsville and Dan River will most likely have a big say in how things play out.

yea, to be clear, this had absolutely nothing to do with the game.  this was 2 idiots (3 if you count the cheerleader) doing what they do best.  the game was over after the first 3 minutes, so there wasn't much to fight about on the court.
 
in fact, the only thing that was left for me and pdfan to discuss after halftime was the crazy number of tattoos many of the players for GW had.

How exciting for SWVA basketball to have this kind of buzz about this game. I would not have done it, but kudos to Union for doing it. UVA-Wise is a great place to play this game. Very special for the kids on both teams and exciting for the fans. Cant wait.

Can't wait to watch this game, I have not seen Gate City this year.
