Agreed, certain tasks that may be too much for certain staff might be slowing them down a bit but not enough to get rid of him.   Record speaks for itself,  had the ball bounced differently a few times then yea maybe 1-2 title appearances/ wins. They're steady, just haven't crossed the hump yet.

It's hard to beat the same team twice. Nobody wants a rematch. So forth and so on... BUT that only applies to 2 equally matched teams that continued to get better as the season went along. It seems that these teams have gone in opposite directions in terms of progress. It will take a very disciplined Bear team that has 0 turnovers and very few if any penalties to beat Graham.
The only thing that Union has going for them is their schedule and the variety of teams on that schedule. They've played some good teams that have shown them a little bit of everything in terms of offensive schemes. Union has to make the most of every opportunity and cannot fall behind by more than one score. I look for a hard hitting game, but depending on which team shows up for the Bears, it may or may not be close
The Bears either rise to the occasion or fall apart in big games. It's almost like there's no in-between. Looking forward to seeing who shows up Saturday.

Well, the VHSL was probably thinking rationally.  They were thinking the highest remaining seed (Graham with a higher power rating than Central) would play the lowest remaining seed left (Ridgeview) and Union would be at Central.  The VHSL got it wrong of course, but in one way, they at least gave a reminder (by accident) to Region D about how the second round actually should look like.

I read on Twitter that Officer Chandler scored the last TD in Powell Valley football. Such a sad , senseless death. Prayers for his family, friends, coworkers, & community.

I thought the VHSLrule was "if you competed in another state in a sport,you could not play in that sport until the following season'????or is that for in state transfers only????.There is a big risk there too, just ask GRAHAM CLARK (FORMER DB COACH AND AT THE TIME CHILHOWIE COACH, he had a kid transfer in late and only used on the kickoff teams, he was found to be outside the eligible guild lines ,so they forfeited 10 games that year and they should have won state

Union by a lot.  Va high is a weak 2a school.  I’ll give them an attaboy for being Improved this year but if they have  better qb play  , RBs, wrs , than some of the other district teams . Then how  do  they loose on Turf to Richlands ? The blues 0 line is average and wasn’t  blowing people off the ball. .  Richlands even had over triple the penalty yards and more turnovers than va high .  So really no explanation,  other than they played a weak schedule.  Very weak. And it’s not the ADs fault nor the kids.  Just stating a fact. Some 8-2 records aren’t equal.    Union will have this game over by the half.  They are a playoff made team that won’t sleepwalk through this one. 

Rumor is a replacement for Tarter was located last year, just wanted to wait for his son to finish his high school career in his present location before migrating to Richlands, but that's still just a rumor. Time alone will tell the truth in that statement.

Union by a lot.   Richlands isn’t very good and their D has been gutted most of year.  They just didn’t get great all of a sudden.  Va high isn’t very good.    All the track speed talk has no merit.   The field at Ernie hicks  was perfect Friday night.   Richlands has little team speed and had little trouble with va Highs athletes.  Richlands kicked deep all night and va high was content  to kick it 15 yards and not  let webb get even a look at the ball.   

It's what happens when some dumb a** AD or School Official tries to make a name for himself or outthink things that don't need to be messed with.  Do it as always, pick the top 8 teams by power rating and if team A only got in 8 games or 6 games or 10 games due to Covid, then divide by the amount of games played.  Somebody, somewhere had to come up with the idea to do something different, and that person has had to get others on board to make it happen.   Hopefully, all will return to normal next year.

Can we do a Lee/GC Allstar team? That would be a much better game!

Have to wonder if the Blues can beat Ridgeview.  Richlands I think, isn't losing 49-14ish or whatever the score was in the first contest.  Could be much, much closer.

I said the game was going to be close, and I never said VA High was going to win. Why don’t you schedule for VA High next year, and help the AD out. As far as the Hogohegee comment, it was a dickhead comment. Great job by Richlands taking the Wedge package 99.5 yards and changing in the game. They deserved to win and VA High has to learn from those situations. VA High played the schedule the Athletic department made…there wasn’t a TN High or Abingdon on the schedule. I will say this, it has instilled more confidence in the kids and help build depth by getting more kids out and renewing interest in the program. To each it’s own. 

I agree!!  Here is what is crazy...SWD - agreed to go by District Standings for playoffs to determine 1-4.  MTN 7 - agreed to do points for 1-4.  The cross bracket is correct though.  Odd to say the least!

I agree and disagree.  No question, Turner is the guy that sees practice and knows his teams capabilities and limitations more than anyone else.  But......this isn't a one year thing.  It's one thing to be run oriented, but Union has been super, super run oriented for a long time, and the odds are..........with all the great athletes and football players than have came through Union, over the last 10 years, the odds have to lean in favor of having at least some kid that can throw it decent enough  I think Union's so conservative that it puts Bunch in desperate passing situations.  Count how many times he's throwing it on 3rd and long, largely because they are so conservative on first down that teams now just play a goal-line defense on first down and completely sell out to the run, and against good teams like Abingdon, you get 2nd and 9 or 2nd and 10.  
Lastly, the standard by which Turner is judged is NOT in comparison to any message board poster or parents.  That standard is judged in comparison to his peers, the other fellow Class 2 coaches across Virginia.  I think Turner and the Union staff are AWESOME.  Great staff, but even great staffs or coaches can struggle in one area.  Union in fact, is to conservative in my opinion and the critique is valid.  Nobody is calling for Turner's head.  He's one of the best in Virginia, but yes, they need more creativity on offense, especially on First and Second downs.  Only my opinion.  I still say when all is said and done, Union and Graham will be playing in the Region D Title Game, and in the 4th quarter, it will be anybody's game to win.

Swd1 vs Mtn4  winner plays winner of Mtn2 vs SWd 3
Mtn1 vs SW4 winner plays winner of sw2 vs Mtn 3
