They played Halifax in 1968 and 1969.  The previous two years they played Harrisonburg.
The Southwest District played at the highest level of competition within Virginia from its inception in 1956 until the classification overhaul by the VHSL in 1970.  Eligibility for postseason honors had a requirement of playing a certain number of other schools at the Division 1 level (I think that was what it was called).  Since that number was beyond the membership of the SWD, a lot of SWD schools scheduled regular series against the Roanoke schools and E.C. Glass for most of the 1960s.  In the later portion of that decade there was usually a playoff between the SWD and the Western District (centered in the Roanoke area) that was also included.  That created something of a scramble to find the minimum number of opponents to meet the postseason eligibility requirement which led to some odd intersectional matchups in the final years of the old classification system.

Congrats to this young man and hope you so well with this move and continuing your education.  Can't wait to see how you progress with the program.

I never saw Keen play, Cox was okay, but in my old opinion would have been a better lineman.  I do have to say he threw a pretty ball, and it is what it is.  Cox will play on the college level, but won't be QB in my opinion.  Maybe a tight end.

Thanks, and I too am very happy for this young man, and I'm glad he stuck it out, hope he does well.  

Come on dude.  What they did to that man was wrong, dead wrong.  You just don't do that.  I didn't know the new coach was supposed to go out of his way to "meet Casto."  The classy thing to do for Casto would be to go out of his way to have a huge welcome for Wheeler.  Afterall, throughout history, it's the traveler that is the one welcomed and greeted by the host in normal social interactions literally dating back to Mesopotamian times.

I just want to wish the G-Men the best! Make Southwest Virginia proud! I know Graham has the talent and coaching to bring back the title. We need another team in Club 5!

Guy sitting behind me on Saturday was cussing Shane Allen for taking the starters out in the 4th quarter, allowing Holston to double their total yardage, and get a garbage time touchdown. He was all over the place.
"That's it coach, let 'em back in it!"

"Why are we abandoning the passing game, coach!"
Uhm, maybe because the score is 44-13 in the 4th quarter, dipshit. Starters don't need to get hurt in garbage time before the state championship game. Besides, that's invaluable experience for the reserves in terms of building for the future.
Fans can be complete morons!!! I'm consistently fascinated at a coaches ability to brush that stuff off and keep moving forward.

I’m sure the Graham coaching staff knows exactly what KW brings to the table as far as strengths and weaknesses. They will game plan accordingly. No one is taking this game or King William lightly, I can assure you of that. I don’t have a clue what the final score will be, I just hope the number is higher on the home side of the scoreboard when the final whistle blows!

IMO it was just Grahams time to win and someone from SWD to finaly beat Appo.  I think Appo has a great program and no doubt will continue to show up like a thorn in the playoffs against SWVA teams, but that's all good in my book.  Good game and wish the best for both teams moving forward.  As to the hoopla with the fans, it's normal to have a few that over react to these situations from both sides of the field, but you have to love the game.  Good luck to the Gmen going to Salem next week, hope you bring the hardware back to SWVA.

Donate the horn to Graham for Saturday. It really echos in Mitchell Stadium and the guys on the other side of the field will fear for their life when they hear it. 

I've heard others say the same thing, and it would be good for the kids to have him back.  IMO there needs to be some changes in those around him, as in assistants, but Tarter is well repected and a good motivator for the program.  I think a lot of the Richlands fans have gotten spoiled over the years with their winning record, my self included, but I also understand that being a ture fan means sticking with the team through the lean years as well as the good years.  I think the program for the next few years will be competetive, but as talent seems to travel in cycles, it may be a while before we see a team in Richlands like those during the Mance years.  High School football is just fun to watch, and I came to the conclusion a long time ago that winning is good, but its not everything.  So I guess us Blues fans will just have to wait until next year to see what truly happens and if any of the rumors have any clout to them.
