Good luck G-Men and safe travels. If you’re a civil war buff you’ll love that area. We passed through on our way to and from Buckingham.

I was at that game too, the snow was beautiful and no, nowhere as cold!

We also had a negative punt. That's the coldest I've ever been in my life. It snowed up there again in 2010 but thankfully wasn't nearly that cold.

Forbes was very happy with how they defended in Europe this summer and said it should be a lot of fun this year if they will do that all season.

Steve Forbes can downright coach, and ETSU has the talent.  Should be another strong year in the SoCon, and ETSU should be the class of the conference.  Time will tell.

If ever in doubt on a rule just ask yourself, "What would they do in Kentucky?".

GC ran all over Abingdon. He should run all over them too.

They had 46 last year which is usually the norm, so the numbers weren't low. Any school that goes 1-9 for 2 straight seasons will see a drop off in participation. This is the smallest number of kids I've seen GC have in 47 years of watching them, but after it's all over they may have the biggest heart of any team I've watched. They're not back yet, but I feel the foundation is being put down.

You have to restart somewhere. Just like building a new house, you can’t put the walls up until the foundation is down. Good point and good luck

Okay, I don’t usually comment on threads, as I like to watch the games I miss as they happen and keep up with everything. But I will say this; as a kid fresh out of GC, we did play for pride, tradition, the community and the love of the game. They preached it in the locker rooms, coaches and players alike. And let’s be real, as much as we took/take pride in the game and community, every single player in the locker room loved to hit hard, and get pretty gals and that’s just real. All the stuff that comes with football is great, but we didn’t stay as a team under those hard seasons just for hitting hard and women, we stayed together for each other and for Gate City and the love of the game.

I couldn’t be more proud of the GC kids and coaching staff. That was old time GC football. We’re not back yet, but we’re coming.

Someone posted on here years ago that GC was becoming a "basketball school" and everyone laughed about it, well it did and they had a phenomenal 6 or 7 years run but football is still the bell cow, even though the bell still hasn't rang loudly for a while, I am nowhere near ready to proclaim it back and or healthy, Coach Houseright has his work cut out for him in the future and in the present but if he could just get the kids to play that have quit playing he would add instant depth and respectability would follow.

Week 1 was a great first step for the program. Most knowledgeable GC fans will tell you that we still have a long way to go.
Our biggest hindrance will be our lack of depth. Is very difficult for a team of 30'ish to compete with a team of 50'ish. You have kids playing both ways, and they tire toward the latter stages of the games. This leads to an increased risk of injury, and  a couple of injuries can ruin your season when you have low numbers. Fatigued kids are slower. The RB they could contain early in the game, easily makes it outside in the 4th quarter.  We should be able to play with a lot of teams early in the games. The key will be how we play in the 4th quarters.
I think 5 wins would be great for this team. Get a few wins, and start building more excitement for the program. More excitement will hopefully lead to more kids wanting to play.

Because Hurley was a scrimmage and Richlands was a game. Never put much stock into a scrimmage or jamboree.

I think folks are taking too much from the Hurley scrimmage. They flat hit Tennessee High in the mouth the week before and Richlands the week after. I'm not saying they're world beaters and I haven't even seen them in person yet. All I'll say is this bunch has confidence now, and still a huge chip on their shoulder. The town of Gate City has been starvin to death for a team that'll bust their hind ends for 48 minutes. I look for Legion Field to be rock'n and roll'n Friday night. Abingdon may win by 28 Friday night, but they could also run into a buzzsaw. Keep in mind, GC played them solid for the first half last year at Abingdon.

I knew the final score & was still a nervous wreck watching the tape. All I know is that I’m officially out of the prediction business.
Anyway, the week 1 win probably increased week 2 attendance by 2500 or so. Legion Field will be rocking for the Falcons.
