Ahhh, temps and humidity are high, pads are popping after school, and ADM is being discussed ad nauseum. I guess I better go start packing my gear and testing radios because football time in SWVA is here. LET'S GO!

I heard they canceled it since most of their players had already scrimmaged Greenbrier East that day….

There's truth and there's Gospel. That post was both of em commingled like a perfect ham "samich" with cheese and mayo.
One small tiny addendum UVA. Greg lives 10 minutes from the ocean in the Longs area. Longs is basically "Way North" in the North Myrtle area close to Little River, Ocean Drive, Cherry Grove area. Heck of a place to live. That stretch is nice as all get out. To be exact, he would be about 13 minutes drive time to Loris and 9 minutes to Cherry Grove Oceanfront. Longs is another area in the Grand Strand that is just booming. Forget about building houses fast enough. They can't build neighborhoods fast enough.

Or maybe…just maybe…he figured out that (1) he could draw full VRS while (2) teaching gut HS classes and coaching football while (3) living 20 minutes from the ocean and (4) being within 30 minutes of several world-renowned golf courses.

You show me a soul alive that wouldn’t make that trade in a heartbeat, and I’ll show you a liar.

Mance wasn’t scared of Palmer.  If he were scared of challenges, he wouldn’t have gone to Loris, which was a doormat before him and now is competitive.

I have a feeling Marion may surprise some people.  Excellent coach, 1 D1 football player on the roster.  They wont challenge for the district title but much better than previous seasons and not the team in the cellar.

Tim is one of the best period.  Allen Gregory does a good job also.  I miss George Thwaites covering SWVA for the Kingsport Times News.   He used to do a great job.  I know he moved back up around Bluefield and maybe worked for the telegraph but I dont look for too many articles in that area.  Kevin Mays led the charge at the Coalfield for years and then filled the gap at KTN until taking a job with WJHL I think last spring.  Tanner Cook is pretty good young writer for the KTN who seems to cover SWVA now.  It just seems like the owners are barely keeping that paper afloat, but Tanner is solid.

I agree.  Keep things in front of you in D forcing long drives and in HS hoping the offense's execution isnt as good in tight spaces, or the more plays they run the more likely they are to commit a turnover.

Is that really the case in modern day football?
The Kansas City Chiefs allowed 5.2 yards per play last season and 5.8 the previous season and have a 5-year average of 5.8 yards per play allowed. It seems to me "bend but don't break" is much more commonplace. Modern football is geared more toward the offense keeping the ball away from the other team by limiting possessions rather than immulating the '85 Bears or the 70's Steel Curtain.

Toasters Deli is owned and operated by a family from NYC. Covid caused the family to lose the Deli in NYC that had been in their family for (I think) 5 generations and moved full time to a family vacation home in Fancy Gap. They opened Toasters Deli in Hillsville and it has blossomed. Exceptional deli with almost everything made in-house.
The Mason Jar is a pub. The Chesapeake Burger is the best I've ever had anywhere. It has house-made crab dip on the burger!!!

I think because of the turf, they may have the oddest visitors seating section also.  But at least they have one unlike quite a few TN schools it seems like.

Castlewood will have around 25 out  when its all said and done.  Had a few gone on vacation this week.
Twin Springs likes what they have to work with even while replacing some key parts off of last years team.  I expect TS to look a little different this year after their OC and line coach went to Eastside.
Thomas Walker I think would expect to be solid this year. Losing Spears hurts but they return a lot of talent. This group is one TW fans has felt like could win the district since they were young.
Eastside should be better but young.  Should have quite a few holdback freshman on this team and I hear a Union like staff on the sidelines.
Burton graduated a lot of kids.  I feel for the Culbertson kid who would be their QB.  Broke his collarbone at the start of last year and tore his ACL a couple of weeks ago.  Kid cant catch a break and I hate it for any kid who doesnt get the ability to compete like they want to.
RC's numbers are strong.  Return  a lot off of last years team and have some additions that should help this year.

Same for RC. The feeder system fell off around 06 or so and was in a serious tailspin.  New folks took over around 2015 or so.  It took a couple of years for them to get their feet under them which in turn led to better turn out.  Didnt hurt that we have 2-3  of the largest classes that have come through RC in a long time coming up then as well.  Numbers rose and the HS program started to see the benefit from it last year.  I expect RC to dress 40+ kids this year on varsity.
Covid seems to have put a damper on the youth program currently and they are fighting to get more kids out now.  I hope they have a good turnout today for this years program.

He has had a lot of growth in the weight room as well over the last 12 months.  If he stays healthy he has a very bright future and hes still growing.

I would still give the nod to Allen. Maybe if Trivette gets a Power 5 scholly down the road I could say I was wrong but Allen done more for Richlands girls basketball than Trivette and got a D1 scholarship doing so.
