The Black Diamond District turns Gold this season!  Hurley is rebuilding, Honaker is not their historical self, and Twin Valley will not be very strong.  Grundy has good numbers and they had a young team last year.

I was thinking Gretna was at Mitchell twice. One playoff game and one regular season game. Playoff was 03 or 04? Regular season 08?

Grundy has never had real big numbers. The years I played during our four years in a row going to the regional championships we were lucky if we 20 to 30 come out. Whittled that down to around 20 by the end of the year. So I'm glad to finally see some kids show up. Can't wait to catch a few games this year, work willing. 

Most I can remember Grundy having in the last 20 years. My senior year we had 28 and that was after going to two straight region championships.

Its really sad that this is happening, since we all see it first hand. But thats going to happen when the majority of this area was built and expanded on by the coal industry. When the coal jobs leave, it leaves the majority of families high and dry. Thereare very few good jobs around here, its getting to be like it was back when my grandpa had to leave here back in the day to find work. Its just making a bad situation worse.

I'm not an Abingdon fan by any stretch of the imagination, but for the governing body of high school sports in the State of Virginia to make that error is beyond pathetic...

Well 15 years is sorta old I guess, I played in the first three grundy-twin valley games, sure as hell makes me feel old lol.

Haven't ever said a thing about u before. It is pretty much a known fact around here about the officiating in kentucky.

RICHLANDS, Va. — Nick Blankenship had a visitor earlier this week at a Richlands football practice. It was Jackie Mabe, who had held the mark for most rushing yards in a game for the Blue Tornado since 1972.
Not anymore. Mabe congratulated Blankenship, who not only broke his mark of 285, but shattered it with 335 yards on 26 carries. He also scored three touchdowns in the Blue Tornado’s convincing 56-21 win last Friday over previously unbeaten Abingdon.
“It was a great night,†said Blankenship, who also broke a school record with a 97-yard run from scrimmage, which resulted in one of those touchdowns.
