Hokie Bound reacted to Gridiron60 in Unofficial pairings
Crazy how many 3-7 & 4-6 teams are in the playoffs. Pretty pointless first round in several games. Maybe we’ll see some upsets to keep it exciting.

Hokie Bound got a reaction from Gridiron60 in Final week projections....
Things are setting up for a classic between Union and Graham in late November. I hope both teams can come being as close to 100% healthy as possible. That is the game everyone wants to see. Two powerhouses with great great athletes, coaches, fans, and unwavering community pride! Big Stone Gap will be rocking.

Hokie Bound reacted to Gridiron60 in Tazewell @ Lebanon
I think Tazewell even without Creasy. I do hope he’s healed up for the playoffs. Tazewell will need him especially if they end up having to play Union. He’s a tough kid and sure has had more than his share of injuries. I hate to see any kid get injured.

All it does is stir 💩, imagine being the kid for a moment. Reading someone's messages on here rating your play and questioning your commitment. Then imagine the rest of your team catching wind of this crap. Detrimental to a team going into week 10 just before the playoffs no matter who they're about to play. One of the leaders of your team having doubts, or rumored anyway. At least wait until the season is over to repeat rumor mill please. Bad juju, just like talking about next year's team in front of this year's team before the season is over. Just sayin

I've stated my take on this before. I used to be a "stick it out" hardliner; however, after going through my eldest's high school years/experience, I've change my views substantially. There is a fine line here, though. Parents need to understand that there are absolutely coaches/staffs, etc. that are going to be influenced by nepotism, status and favors in determining playing time and positional choices. There are "hook-ups" and good-ole boy clubs, more so here than any other place I've been. Not all of them and not even most of them, but damn sure some of them. Look no further than Union.....the kid couldn't start at QB at a traditionally run-heavy offense at a 2A school but transfers to a 5A school that has modern passing concepts. Hmmmm.......that's a great move for the kid.
Parents must have a realistic assessment of their child's talent. This is where we lose most of the parents. They think their child is D-1 material but have never seen a true D-1 athlete up close. Parents need to understand the impact of their child's positional choice and evaluate if their physical characteristics are capable of that position choice. If your kid is 6'3", 210 and runs a 4.8 40, he isn't a next level WR, he is a TE waiting to happen. Another issue is sometimes your local high school's offensive/defensive philosophy won't allow your child opportunities to shine. This is a valid concern. The talented QB or WR that languishes in a Wing-T offense is hurting their ability to make an impact. I absolutely would relocate my kid if that was the situation. Another thing is sometimes kids want to transfer to a program that is more committed to improving and winning and player development. The good and competitive kids want to win and be in a winning environment. Can't blame them.
Now, there are definitely reasons NOT to transfer and not being able to take criticism or compete for starting position are a few of them. This seems to be what most of the board members assumes are the issues in most cases. I don't disagree; however, there are damn sure valid reasons for kids to relocate. There are a lot of talented kids that should have had their college degree paid for or, at least, greatly subsidized through football but stayed in detrimental situations. "But, what about the team?" Good question, so let's ask some of the coaches that. Coach, what about the team? Why did you not start the more talented kid? Most of the time there are good answers; however, sometimes there aren't.
So, if you would leave your current job for a better opportunity or more money, can you blame a kid for basically doing the same?

I think another thing that helps is all three are super competitive.

If I'm not mistaken, he's a retired game warden. He was an All-American QB at Emory and Henry. Had several school and national passing records. His son was QB at GC, and he was the O coordinator for several years there. Think he did a stint at E&H as an assistant as well.

Yes they definitely have something special for sure with all the coaching experience. Is Collier a teacher also and where all has he coached before landing at Rye Cove? Seems like his son played at Gate City if I'M not mistaken.

Gary Collier is a really good coach, but it sure doesn't hurt to have B.I. and Robbie on staff as well. Got a special situation there in RC.

Hey, there’s nothing wrong with attending a football game to see the marching band. I do it on a weekly basis. At least until my youngest graduates. Then I’m likely to never attend another!!!

Congratulations to Bluefield High School head football coach Fred Simon. Tonight’s 47-13 victory over Giles was win #300 for Coach Simon. He is the only coach in WV high school football history to win 300 games at one school per J & J News.

Montcalm on the WV side.
Northwood 2015 regarding the longest time a team in the Coverage area has not made the playoffs. Bland, Twin Valley, Hurley, all of them has made the playoffs after 2015. Northwood goes back the longest to 2015.

Hokie Bound got a reaction from TS Fan in Playoff Droughts in 1A and 2A
Six would definitely be a good number. I think the region in which Riverheads is in allows six and gives the top two byes. 1vs 8 and 2vs 7 are usually blowouts. Giving the top 2 teams byes would have 3 vs 6 and 4vs 5 which would be much more entertaining and competitive games. I just feel like 8 teams water down the playoffs and don't mean as much for making them.
