This will be 40 years in the making when we kick off the home portion of our schedule on week 3 against The Southwest District with the Tazewell Bulldogs. What a way opening against an opponent from this district, I’m. excited. At that time when they were choosing  a place to play it was decided that the old Welch High School Maroon Wave Stadium, even though Gary Memorial Stadium home of the Coaldiggers in my opinion was a better venue. So here we are after all these years and memories breaking a new complex in with the hope we’ll have a lot of great memories to come.

Transfer to Wake Forest and don't leave without the degree. Play two years in the best conference in the country. Enter the draft and and hope for the best. If it doesn't happen, you can always play pro ball in Europe. When age or injury says it's over, you walk away with a college education and no regrets.

I just really enjoy the challenge. I actually did not know about this and was not contacted. Tim Hayes pointed it out to me. The interesting thing is that while I know a lot about Virginia High School football and her history I know much more about WV high school football history. One because I have been researching WV much longer and Two) there is much less to learn because of the smaller population. I still have a long ways to go before I can claim to be an expert or THE AUTHORITY on Virginia high school football. If I had to do one thing over in hindsight I would do Virginia research first because when I started Marshall Johnson was still alive. By the time I really got into Virginia he had passed and all I have is his scattered notes and notebooks. BTW. There are literally dozens of notebooks by Marshall Johnson containing Virginia High School basketball history and scores. I know where they are.

Congratulations, Rick!!  It is so awesome that we have such an amazing source for high school sport history right here on this forum!!!  I am very thankful and grateful that you are here and share your knowledge with all of us.  Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine that this little forum covering sports in southwest Virginia and southern West Virginia would have such an outstanding gentleman in it's presence.
    Well done, good Sir!!

I missed the NCAA Tournament but thats it. I dont watch baseball or NASCAR. My interest in any sport outside of NCAA and High School football has been dwindling for the past few years.
The National Anthem issues with the NFL were the beginning of it, football was my escape from the real world and that was invaded by bs. I still watch the Cowboys when they're on but other than than I watched parts of maybe 3 NFL games last season and the Superbowl. I did watch a lot of college football and ive been fortunate enough to watch more high school football in the past 3-4 years than I ever have, nothing better than traveling around SWVA eating hotdogs and watching some high school football.
I hope something we as a culture take away from this is that we refocus on whats important and find other interests. Ive been sketching, something I haven't done in years, and depending on how things go I may end up reading more.

It's OK to go visit for a couple of hours...bullet proof vest gets too hot in the summer to wear it much longer...but would prefer Cherry Grove in North Myrtle 1,000,000 to 1.  Prefer Sunset Beach 1,000,000 to 1 over Cherry Grove.  Just sayin'...

Too many athletes for GW.  Narrows down 3 starters didn't help.  Really missed Fleet and Bowman up the middle tonight especially.  We've got gutted up the middle because of it.  Congrats GW and good luck next week.  Pulling for whoever wins it to take down Riverheads.
Congrats and thanks for the Narrows seniors who played their last game tonight.  You've been fun to watch and represented yourself and your school well.

Meg's coached at Glenvar for 2 seasons. Glenvar had 7 consecutive non-winning seasons prior to Meg's taking over as Head Coach. He went 7-3 his first year and 6-4 during the next which was his last season.  For the first time in 7 years, Glenvar not only had 1 winning season, but it had two in a row at the hands of a young-newly started Head Coach.

Narrows has played and beat some good teams this year.... Auburn  Chilhowie , 2A Giles, Holston who was # 1 in region D when Narrows beat them, Covington. I'm tickled for Narrows, they are something like 40-8 in the last 4 years!! I believe its time for those that hate on Narrows to give them their due. THEIR BACK!!

A 16 year old kid just earned $3 million dollars for winning a Fortnite tournament.  Second place earned $1.8 million dollars while the two kids that tied for third split $3 million dollars.  The tournament as a whole paid out $30 million dollars in cash prizes.
Maybe those kids skipping high school sports to play video games aren't crazy or lazy after all!!!!!!!!!

Obviously Narrows @ Giles on 9/20 but also looking forward to Chilhowie coming to Narrows the week before.  Two of the more solid programs the last few years west of Roanoke coming together.  Should be fun.
