As always a one man show. Poor coaching it seems, should use whole bench as central does to give players a break ! The price you pay for having a successful football season is early season lag. Central is the best boys basketball team in the region no doubt, but Union will get their legs and win some games. Comegetsum 1 Quote

Which I believe was still by luck Quote

Oopsie Posted January 6 Report Posted January 6 Nope not from Wise . The Hayes kid as a freshman is the best player in SW Va ! I don’t understand why he would risk injury in Centrals lacking football program ! He could easily be the next Mc Chung ! Quote

Will he be the best when he’s an upperclassmen? Absolutely. He will end up being the best player to come through our area in a long time. Quote
Oopsie Posted January 7 Report Posted January 7 I’m afraid football could be his worst enemy. He has talent on the football field also, but that could be his demise if he blows a knee out. Mac was a heck of a football player, his concentration on only basketball payed dividends big time for him ! Quote
BigWinners Posted January 7 Report Posted January 7 You guys realize we’re talking a Div I, NBA level talent right? I know the Hayes kid is very very good, but let’s pump the brakes a bit. No need to put that much pressure on a young kid. Let him grow and develop. Mozell is still at VHS, it’s not a clear obvious no doubter Hayes is the best in 2D. Ray can play ball too. Quote

Yes NBA Level? More than likely not, I’m saying he will be the best player since mcclung. Right now he’s not better than bunch but if he continues to grow as he should I say that he definitely will be. Caywood brothers, Collins, Reece, mozell and Lee kid from v high (even though I’ve heard he is transferring to TCC), and ray are all top players in 2d but from what I’ve seen from the Hayes kid (only a couple of games) I think you can throw him into the mix with those guys. There’s not very many guys that can take one dribble and get by guards and instantly elevate and shoot over big men as a freshman. There is no clear best player in SWVA as of rn. Quote
Observer Posted January 7 Report Posted January 7 McClung had the supporting cast around him that took a little bit of pressure off of him. The players around Hayes are nowhere near the talent of Ervin and Dean. Quote

Long way to go before he graduates high school. A lot could factor in, as I said, football injury could throw cure ball ! Quote
Elder statesman Posted January 7 Report Posted January 7 I watched McClung as a freshman and I have now seen Hayes twice this year. IMO, He is nowhere near ahead of McClung at that point. I will say that I thought his brother was actually better than McCamis when they played together but the whole offense was built around McCamis so he got all the headlines. Quote

If course it’s just a matter of one’s opinion, but I’ve saw both multiple times, Hayes since he was a kid. But you never know from now to 4 yr down the road Quote

His brother was very very good. I felt like he would have been the focal point of a lot of other teams, successful ones, but was always playing second fiddle to McAmis, who was very good in his own right. Quote

McCamis was good but I feel Hayes was much more effective and played more under control. McCamis could very well shoot you out of ballgames. Hayes was much more likeable on the floor as well. Oopsie Posted January 26 Report Posted January 26 Hayes kid put up 44 on Gate City tonight guys. I’m telling you he could be better than Mc Chung ! Needs to concentrate on basketball, leaving the risk of football injury behind ! Bball_Fan 1 Quote

Hayes even though a freshman could be the best player in swva but Reece from Lebanon is a bad somebody he's a load to handle, he just don't have the supporting cast Quote
