What are some of the best postseason performances in a single game by a local player that you have seen in person?

I will go with some of the following:

Brannon Breeding: 1992 semifinal vs Salem

Ahmad Bradshaw: 2002 or 3 vs Gretna

Xayvion Turner-Bradshaw: 2021 vs Appomattox Co

There were a couple of Austin Fuller performances, but I can’t remember whether it was against Liberty or Brookeville (facing Logan Thomas?)

Austin had a pick against Thomas when playing Brookeville.  Basically catching it as it fell to the ground.

I think his  two best plays were in the 2006 state championship game.  The fake on the 4th and 16 running for a TD was a highlight.   Also, a pick in that game,  sealing the win for the Blues.

Mike Keith (6'2" 210lb, TB)-Rich Valley Steers

Scored all 42 of his team's points (6 rushing TDs, 6 PATs) in a 42-22 playoff win over the Fries Wildcats in 1978. He finished with 288 yds rushing and 2 punts of 52.5 yds avg.

Sport Illustrated recognized the feat in its 'Faces in the Crowd' section.

Per BHC's Tim Hayes, History With Hayes

First one that pops to my mind:

Micah Steele in 98 at John Battle.  350 yards and can't remember number of TD's but I know it was multiple.

Memorable for me because of it being my senior year of HS and was at VHS.  Remember playing basketball at a church on Wednesday night the week of the game with some Battle players present that were way more confident than they should've been.  Asked if they had played vs the single wing before.  They replied they has watched plenty of film.  Told them they were screwed, were going up against a tailback with a glass eye for one eye that was gonna run for 200+ and 3 TD's and to tell the MLB if he gets a straight free shot up the middle to backfield to just stop because he's about to get his head knocked off.  Game went as I expected.

Tydrez Clements.  409 rushing yards and 7 tds against Ridgeview in 2022.  Plus a bunch of receiving and return yards

I remember this one, but didn’t see it in person. He had a big one against Union that I listened to as well.

I have been fortunate to see or hear some good performances, but unfortunately the most memorable came from the opposition at the local team’s expense, such as Madison County-Kirkley vs Burton and the Manassas Park QB against Powell Valley.

Shane Gibson Appalachia vs Bath Co. 1989 Half State

45 carries (was state record not sure if it’s been broken) 285 yards.

Bath Co. that season was 12-0 and Appalachia 7-5

Back when the Kingsport paper used to actually cover high school football, they would publish the starting lineups with heights and weights of the players when they were in the playoffs. When I saw the size disparity of the Appy OL and the Bath Co DL, I thought Appy would win that game exactly the way they did.

I didn’t look, but I believe Breeding broke the carries record with 46 against Salem and it may have been broken again by that Manassas Park QB in that title game vs PV.

Yeah Appalachia was 5-5 that season but injuries were a big part of it.  When they lost only 28-8 to Powell Valley that season I thought they had a chance because that PV team was loaded

In Gate City's '74 state semi-final game vs Amherst Co, Mickey Rogers rushed for 299 yards and 5TDs on just 14 carries.

Were you there for that one? That must have been an experience.

Unfortunately not. My dad and uncle would occasionally take me to a playoff game of whichever local team was playing. Saltville was loaded in '74 and we ended watching them beat Parry McCluer before losing to Clintwood in the state-semis.  The Green Wave (eventual state champs) had Johnny McFall and beat the Shakers 3-0 at PH.
