  1. I was laughed out of the room back in August for suggesting that Chilhowie was a darkhorse to not only win Region D, but challenge Galax for a trip to the title game. Funny how y’all forget this crap when it comes time to cash in on these predictions. I’m not crapping on Chilhowie. I’m just being a realist, something that always seems to get lost on this board when the later rounds of the playoffs roll around. I’ll take the aspirin if you lay off the ganja.

  2. I've read your commentary on the "other site". Welcome! All of 1A football is down this season as compared to recent years with the exception of Narrows and Chlhowie. Any of the Galax, Clintwood, Haysi, Riverheads, Essex and George Wythe teams of the past 5-6 seasons would have dominated from the opening quarter of the opening game of this season. With that said, I wish Chilhowie all the best and will be rooting for anyone from SWVA at this juncture of the season. But Riverheads will win this game going away! I have said on this site for a year, if you're going to get Galax, get them now. The group coming up through the middle school is going to be something special!

  3. If it's time to head out to the ballgame at the very last minute on a Friday night/Saturday afternoon, and your wife/girlfriend wants some "hanky panky", do you stay to make the fairer half happy and risk not making it before kickoff, or do you say, "To hell with it!" and head for the stadium? :)

  5. That would have been a more than 7 hour drive for Poquoson!!! I've always been a fan of cross bracketing, but after seeing how things played out this year, I'm OK with it. Especially, with the higher seed hosting the semifinal. Overall, I believe they got it right this year.

  6. A tremendous up hill battle for Chilhowie. I wish them well and should they pull off the upset it will be one of the greatest ever. I think I will go to the game just to root for them.

  7. Riverheads may be the team to beat in 1A year in and year out, but as long as Chilhowie puts 11 players on the field, they have a chance, hopefully, a good chance. Good Luck Warriors! We'll be pulling for you!

  9. Riverheads will more than likely be 14 point favorites. I don't think Chilhowie will slow down their run game or stop them from scoring but I think the Warriors will be able to score some points of their own. I just hope it's a good game. This will make the 3rd year in a row that I've watched Riverheads in a state game. Riverheads is like Giles. If you stop the run game, you win. But if you try stopping the run game by putting 9 in the box, then you lose.

  10. I guess no one see the clear hold on a 6'5 James Mitchell on the punt return for 6 my eyes must be playing tricks on me. I agree the special teams was the difference.

  11. Current....cross bracketing is BS IMO And nobody knows who 2nd beat team is....its all opinion 2nd beat team is whoever gets the loss next Saturday

  12. But why not have BEST IN THE STATE vs BEST IN THE STATE?

  13. The Chilhowie faithful will not tolerate others who are “being realistic”.

  14. The Beast Mode run by Truck Edwards made ESPN Sportsnation. “Ever been as determined as this dude” was the title. That run deserved that recognition.

  17. That was a hold with two hands full of jersey in front of two officials, how could they both have missed that, and i know that one play may not change the outcome of a game, but in this case I will disagree with that. Mitchel was on line to tackle the returner and you can see the other Union players kinda pull up thinking the play will be stopped, but it is what it is, and Appo wins again. Great game Union!!!

  18. So 2008 was the last year that Riverheads lost more than 2 games in a season. That's pretty impressive. Riverheads truly never rebuilds, they just regroup. Similar to multiple SWVA schools.

  19. When does Riverheads score the clinching TD? I’ll go out on a limb and say with 5:34 to go in the 1st.

  20. Yeah I pull for Northwood unless they play Marion

  21. If Union had won, how do you think they would have fared at Salem?

  22. I can pull for swva teams except for Chilhowie and Abingdon and I'd pull against them even in a potato sack race lol

  23. No hard feelings to the Chilhowie people, but this may get ugly fast. Riverheads by how many every they want to score. I'm sure CHS90 will be upset with this reply, however put your money where you mouth is. I got $200 on Riverheads. No, no, I got $1,000 on Riverheads.

  25. Not really a question but I told you on Facebook what I want you to do during the podcast ?

  26. Yes, but you can NOT leave between games. If you do, you must pay to re-enter. Sucks too, because with Riverheads playing in the 1A game, it will most likely FLY by leaving at the least a 2 hour break between games.

  28. Not really a question, but a request... since Ryan is drawing heat from Stuarts Draft fans on Preps like the Four Horsemen did breaking Dusty's leg in the steel cage in the 80's, I want Ryan to deliver a classic heel wrestling promo on Stuarts Draft fans. Lol

  29. You may not be a neutral fan next year. I fully expect the Wolfpack to make some noise in '18. And no matter what format we use for football playoffs, something each year will throw a wrench in it. There's always something new or changing that we never thought of.

    TSSAA 2017 Playoffs

Well the 2017 Blue Cross Bowl is over, Here are the results from all the Games. In 1A: Greenback beat Cornersville 42-21. In 2A: Union City beat Tyner 27-21 in double OT, this was easily the game of the weekend. In 3A: Alcoa won State Championship number 16, 31-20 over Covington. In 4A: Greeneville whipped Springfield 54-13, Cade Ballard tied the Championship Game record of 7 TD's. In 5A: Knoxville Catholic beat Beech 45-28 In 6A; Maryville beat Cane Ridge 42-7, to claim it's 16th State Title. As Hoss posted earlier 5 of the 6 titles came back to East Tennessee. Alcoa and Greeneville should be odds on favorites to repeat, Greenback and Maryville lose a lot, as does Catholic. There are at least 19 Division 1 prospects in The Volunteer State next year, the most in history, so the football will keep getting better. Thanks for the interest and if they are any changes I will post them.

  33. Congrats to the Bears on a stellar season and for representing Southwest Virginia the only way they knew how, with grit and tenacity. I thought this was your chance and I believe with your regular QB, it may have been your year. Football is very cyclical and your cycle just happened to coincide with Appomattox's cycle. I hope you enjoyed watching Mitchell play because he is a once a generation talent, and remember the good stuff but it won't take that nasty taste out of your mouth knowing that you were so close, yet so far away! Thanks for the memories James Mitchell, you will go down as a top 15 player to every trod on Southwest Virginia soil.

  34. https://www.hudl.com/video/2/18906/5a24c387b019640264965c96 At 12 seconds. You can see Mitchell get turned sideways with the blocker behind him. This and the blown call on the punt were horrible. However, Union still had chances to win this game and simply didn't execute when they needed to.

  36. I didn’t see it because I wasn’t there. Lots of people who were there said it should have been holding and I believe them. I think that is one of the plays that doomed us.

  37. I believe that was a huge no call. It happened right in front of us and the ref.

  38. Riverheads reminds me a lot of Giles. Both are well-coached, disciplined teams that run an old-school offense to perfection.

  39. Take away the punt return and the 15 yard punt from Unions goal line and we are probably packing our bags for Salem. But special teams is just as important and we learned the hard way.

  40. I agree... special teams was the difference.

  41. While a couple of calls should have gone the other way, Union just got beat. The bad first half hurt them. Union mounted a nice comeback second half. Al Appomattox needed was a TD or FG to ice it. They got the field goal. Union got the answering TD but couldn’t get the onside. Special teams was the difference.

  42. Union played a B game and needed an A- game to win. The special teams miscues were the difference in a classic clash of titans. You didn’t get robbed. You got beat by a more crisply executing team. Them’s the breaks.

  43. After watching game film and seeing the stats of the game. I am not 1 for making excuses but Today I am UNION got robbed point blank. Blast me all you want but anyone who was there could see it unless you are a Appo fan.

  44. Union takes a step back. But I think they go back up in a few seasons. I see a 7-3/6-4 type season for Union. Ridgeview should be excellent. I imagine Graham being excellent too. Gate City has become a basketball school, I am afraid.

    Congrats Union!

Great season, well done Bears! The Bears embody the greatest virtues of football (sacrifice, team work, toughness, etc), the kind of team everyone wishes their team was. Be proud of who you are and what you've accomplished
