They have an excellent program and always sound great. Never had a Union/GC game where they didn't get compliments from the Union stands.

Is there not a band page on this forum? I don't think band discussion belongs on here unless there's football team punting to the woodwinds in pre-game.

I come from a different school of thought. We were taught that if you can buy it at Walmart, it should be played in the stands, not on the field. That doesn’t mean that you can’t play something from a popular song, but shows shouldn’t be centered around Queen or the Beatles or The Who or whatnot. That always stuck with me. You never see the bands playing those shows winning awards at band competitions. It’s the bands who have themed shows that are more than just the stuff you hear on the radio.

I hate the GC band didn't arrive in time to perform, because they sounded great from the stands. Hats off to any band director that teaches the students Classic Queen songs. As far as football, I think this is a winnable game for GC. The QB-Center exchange (or lack thereof) killed nearly every drive in the first half against Marion. The second half was a different story with the Blue Devil offense looking crisp. Mack, Reed, and Tomlinson were threats to score at any time.

Union plays in house with their youth football. Don't have much drop off there. Coaching makes a difference, Travis and his staff actually coach their jv and varsity in practice. Lee has had good kids for a long time but again coaching makes the difference. This is from one that has coached and operated the lee youth program.

Lee has always had good little league/youth teams. All the support for the travel team league was there with the old little league that disolved when the travel league got started. We've had several really good middle school teams too. But when they get to high school JV is a mess. Last few years, and I don't know about this season they play 3 or 4 jv games and cancel the rest. That's not helping much on Friday nights. We loose the kids somewhere between little league and high school. I think the high school staff might be putting more into the travel league than they are high school.

If that is the case, the future could be promising. Unless there is a disconnect further up the ladder.

Ended up working and got in late. Yeah I got lazy because I'd then have to explain what PK stands for. I will fix it for ya in our week 9 run.

I would like to see him stay one more year at Richlands and then get the new Sullivan County gig (West Ridge) I would buy tickets to watch him coach there.

Add Richlands to the list Mance most likely will be going to double dip in another state or to the college ranks

The Colors show in 03 that Richlands did maybe? We had a part of Somewhere Over the Rainbow and we had 6 10-foot tall waterfalls that had colored water in them to represent the rainbow. I was an 8th grader that year and was responsible for the blue waterfall.

Lee was CRAZY to fire Martin. As far as coaches feeling the pressure, you gotta wonder about the situation at Kingsport DB. That’s a high dollar job, and $ comes with expectations.

No doubt on GC will hire someone new...or even someone who has been in the program before. Just no more Hogo rejects or a kicker from Graham.
