  1. Since 2009 GC has played the toughest schedule in the state. Playing Bluefield, Harlan, or a 5A TN school on the non conference slate has been brutal. Additionally, historically weak conference opponents have improved & / or experienced unprecedented runs of success (The Wright years at Battle, the Amburgy / Jimmy King success from 14-17 at Abingdon, the recent Central teams come to mind). No excuses, but a lot of those Ls came from teams that it would have taken all-time great GC teams to compete with.

If you go to the doctor/nurse practicioner/veterinarian and complain of a headache and tell them you play football I can guarantee you they are going to diagnose you with a concussion.

Your guarantee & the stuff that comes out of my butthole bear a suspicious resemblance.

12 “concussion“ through out the year with most of those player being starters

If Marion has had 12 players diagnosed by medical professionals with concussions then this program needs to be immediately shut down. That is an insane and untenable number.

I'll go ahead and say it. Akers was never given full control of the team.  I know it's not a popular belief but it is true. He would make decisions only to be told by a couple higher ups it would not happen. I saw some of it first hand. I'm really hoping it don't happen with Jeremy. All I do know now is it will take time.

The man did his best & moved on. I’m sorry as can be for getting on here & running him down - it didn’t do anything but make me look like a fool. Only time the man’s name should be mentioned is to wish him well at his new job.

I don’t speak for anyone but myself, but I’m thankful for EVERY coach at GC, from LL to varsity. We’re damned lucky to have who we have.

  5. Union was flagged for 15 yard personal fouls x3. GC was flagged once & it was part of offsetting fouls which didn’t cost any yardage. Union’s final & most egregious personal foul gave GC a first down that kept them within striking distance. ⬆️ That’s from the film; can’t speak for anything anyone might have seen in person.

Union going to kill gc.  Gc is starting to play like Akers is coaching.  They ain’t had the fire they had first two games.  They get down and the old habits start coming back.

Strongly disagree. The kids may miss tackles / blocks, give up a reception, etc., but they are always in position to make the play. They are playing with effort when they are clearly out of gas, & when you combine those things it reflects great coaching. GC was down two speedsters (#12 & #2) and two lineman (#70 & #61) Friday night; that’s insurmountable with our depth. Also keep in mind that 3 of the teams GC has played included generational / D1 talents. Abingdon got away with one; South & RV we’re flat out better teams. GC will continue to improve (Coaching) & will be fine.

  7. I’ve never seen a team with a smaller margin of error. If GC commits zero turnovers / penalties, they can play with anyone. Tackling must improve, but this, last, & next week’s backs probably have a lot of folks saying that.

    Tale of the tape:

GC: 4 fumbles lost, 2 INTs, most (combined) personal fouls I’ve ever seen in a game that wasn’t played in KY.

Just curious as ive had the "what if Mac played football?" discussion with friends, what were his 2015 stats?

Somebody that knows more should definitely verify, but I think he pulled in 12 TD catches & has some big runs (off  jet sweeps). I think he had some big returns. I’m the type that can remember what I had for breakfast in 1988 but can’t remember yesterday. 🤷🏽‍♂️

I have mentioned the specialization issue before.  GC is a classic example.  With travel ball taking over the youth leagues, in basketball and baseball especially, the kids play year round and football becomes the sport kids leave.  Mcclung and Ervin chose to specialize to maximize their potential in basketball.  Those 2 athletes alone on the football team would have made a world of difference in GC’s records those years.  Their success and hype led other athletes to specialize for the team and the kids that idolize them choose early to play b-ball all year so they can be the next Mac.  Mix that with the current overlap of seasons and it becomes even harder.  A school that makes playoff runs every year in football hurts the basketball team because the players that do both cannot start workouts until football is over.  By the time they acclimate and team chemistry forms, basketball is 5-6 games into the season

Mac played WR in 2015 & had a monster year. Personnel decisions lead to his specializing after the 15 season - but we’ve covered all that in previous threads.
