Counts got a reaction from Bearcat Dad in The Tazewell Bulldogs @ Va High
Think he was referring the D-Line as a unit and not the players individually.
On a side note if the coaching situation and numbers contionue on there trend do you think VHS will start losing players to Battle or THS?

What year is Lomax? Do not remember him from last season
Never mind I see you had already stated he is a sophomore

Counts got a reaction from swva_havok_fan in Best Defense in the mountain district
I think he will be a solid QB
How many other M7 Teams are breaking in a new QB this season and how is there early progress?

Every thing I am hearing backs that up I think Phillips will be fine (probably better than fine) there is no doubt that is will be the fastest QB that we have had in the backfield since the school opened. I know he has a strong arm as well I just want to see his dissension making and whether our WRs can catch a pass in a game before getting to excited LOL.
That being said a QB that can run puts ALOT of pressure on a Defense.
Personaly i look for the Tazewell scrimmage to be all about testing out the WRs and the passing game as well as sliding in as many backup running backs to see which one sticks as our #2

For me it is reservations more than pessimism.
RV is replacing ALOT of skill players several who were 3 year starters.
RV will be replacing there QB and that is always an unknown.
The Bright point on there team (Outside a Adkins) is there line which is bigger stronger and deeper (Overall) than any RV team up to this point.
For me until I see how the New QB and skill players work out I will temper my enthusiasm.

Adkins and Sexton were 2 different types of runners Sexton was a homerun hitter no doubt but needed space to work with and have Adkins in the backfield allowed him to be a scary 2nd option.
Adkins also had big play capability but I was more impressed with his yards after contact becouse last year he showed that he could get his pad level down and pick up some tough yardage.
The Abingdon loss had less to do with the offence than it did the D (However a power running game in the 4th would have helped no doubt.
The Richlands game IMHO had as much to do with Richlands running a solid scheam vs the spread (And the Ridgeview D being unable to effectively contain the Richlands QB picking up 1st downs with his legs
I look forward to seeing what the Ridgeview Offence comes up with for this season.
As for D I would have to give the early nod to Union as they are returning there entire LB crop which was great last season. Ridgeview will be Solid on the D Line but IMHO will be challenged in the secondary with ALOT of new faces this season

Counts got a reaction from CoachT423 in Early predictions?
He has a good arm and great speed. But the QB position is one that is tough to predict based purely on athletic ability. Honestly I feel better going into this year at that position than i did going into last season.

Counts got a reaction from Bigtom in 2019 could be the year of the Warriors
RV rotated there line heavily last season and return most of those kids they will be just fine as far as starters go. Line Depth may be an issue next season but you just have to wait and see how things shake out

Counts got a reaction from swva_havok_fan in Richlands at Ridgeview
Same rumors went around last season after the season.

"football factory" schools? DB/Crockett.....not sure I would be calling them that LOL
-
Counts got a reaction from Hokie777 in Richlands at Ridgeview
Loseing 2, 2 way startes in the 1st 6 mins of the game did not help that is for sure.
IMHO RV was really tring to play Pass D early and could not contain the QB when he would tuck it and run.

Counts got a reaction from East10Football423 in Richlands at Ridgeview
Not sure about that....Adkins may have the best hands on the team Richlands may want to put there best cover man on him
-
Counts got a reaction from Hokie777 in Richlands at Ridgeview
I am sure that Richlands will try to load the box but RV is not running out of a 2 TE full house so the only way to get the box loaded is to leave someone uncovered.

Best Pass D could be the nasty wind that whips around up there LOL

Counts got a reaction from jarhead24219 in Rain already playing a factor in Region C
As a player the Stadiums history did not mean a thing......However field conditions are another matter all together.....Appy which I remember being something like playing on a hard packed strip job. We won both games both games played there in my playing days but there is not another field I can think of in which the field itself played a bigger part in the games

Counts got a reaction from Warriors_XO in Grundy @ Central
I agree Central and Tazwell are both young teams that are looking to the future and getting into the playoffs after a few years sitting on the outside looking in is a big step in getting where there programs want to be

Counts got a reaction from barondawg77 in Congrats to Chris Akers
Will they really get all of those kids though? I get that the Drive Might be a bit better for some but the solid Athleats will they want to play for a team that is averaging 1 or 2 wins a season and will have much poorer athletic facilitys.
Add to that the fact that the whole GC coaching situation is described by there fans as a dumpster fire and there top choice as a replacement has been described as a "not a people person" kind of coach I just question how many people and what type of players that situation will attract.

Burton is a passing team for the most part Chilhowie by 50+

Counts got a reaction from September in Gc vs ab
Over the past 5 years the shoemaker number (PK-6) are as follows
17-18 - 565
16-17 - 621
15-16 -625
14-15 - 568
13-14 - 593
Weber City numbers are
17-18 - 329
16-17 - 326
15-16 -340
14-15 - 331
13-14 - 346
It looks to me like an infusion of about 4 dozen kids will bring GC back in line with there 13-14 Numbers so I am sure the room for the kids is defiantly there
-
Counts got a reaction from Union_Fan in Union at GC
The strength of Union is there Line and there Big Fullback #20 adds some game changing speed but is not a back capable of 20+ carrys inside the tackles I think the T suits the personnel of this team.
I THINK that the spread could help get #20 the ball in space a bit more but overall will negate what i feel are Unions offensive strengths.
It could be that by making the Spread there default passing formation that Union has neglected to fully develop the passing attack out of the T
In my opinion the coachs do not need to scrap anything that they are doing but take the game and work on countering the steps that RV used against them (That others will no doubt mimic after reviewing game film)
