1inStripes reacted to Dick_Vitale in Smyth County Schools in a state of despair !
I saw this on WCYB earlier... Said the guy was 22 years old.
Nice play onto bashing Smyth Co though. I do not think people should lose their job over the actions of one individual who is not employed by SCPS. No one knew what was going on. Now if someone with authority knew that is totally different. I would imagine no one knew until this got brought to light today.
Definitely a tough article to read however. I read the comments on WCYB facebook... the young man's mother is on there telling people it is not what it seems. I suppose we will see how this plays out but regardless will be tough on SCPS.
Completely off topic but does anyone else wonder why SWVAFB's post are formatted strangely? It is almost formatted like a new paper. Sorry carry on!

Christ School has ruined a lot of good high school basketball in NET. DB and Science Hill specifically.

I dont think Oak Hill makes a ton of sense for McClung for the most part. Why go from major minutes to probably the 3rd or 4th guy off the bench? If he goes there I hope he succeeds but if a prep school is where he heads, Christ School or somewhere like that seems to make more sense to me. I think the odds are he will be back at GC. The comparison of him leaving GC and his sister leaving GC early are apples and oranges. Soccer is a spring/fall sport and she was taking advantage of an opportunity to work out with the university she chose early like many football players do.

Local_insight reporting on the scoop. With his long history of breaking the story on this message board it's no surprise that he would be first on the scene! Thank you for bringing us another post filled with poor grammar, misspellings, and wild guesses...I mean "facts."
We couldn't get by here without you. Stay classy Ron Burgundy,

Yep, that is exactly how it is still. I live just a little over an hour away from U of West GA. Those summer showers definitely bring more humidity and sticky weather, but probably not as bad as Florida.

U of West Georgia was West Georgia State Braves back in the mid 90s wasnt it? First baseball field I ever saw with the grass cut out around the plate, mound bases and shortshop but everything else was grass. Went to a football camp there in Carrollton and every day before our 2pm session it would pour the rain for 5 minutes and feel like a sauna the rest of the day. Brutal.

I stayed down on the mat for 5 minutes after that match and just tried to think about dead kittens to calm down.

Dickenson Co over built and has mismanaged funds so they're in a tight spot right now. Long term, who knows. The school may actually become a burden.
The Wise Co schools are much more manageable

But panthers don't exist in this area...just ask the VDGIF...

WV has some good ones, but the undefeated champion is the Poca Dots.

If Scott County ever consolidates I hope we go with the Clinch River Mussels given the rivers diversity of aquatic life and what should be a unique mascot.

The central VA County schools that you mention; Nelson, Amherst, Appomattox, Buckingham, Orange, Louisa, Amelia, Madison, Floyd, Franklin and I'll throw in William Monroe (Greene County) and Culpeper were consolidated right after WWII from small k-12 schools in one building. It wasn't due to dwindling enrollment it was to offer the full high school experience to students at the small rural schools in those counties. Comparing them to the situation in SW VA right now is apples to oranges.

I agree but I would say the coach it too scared too because dad would just move him to a school that would let him do whatever he wanted to do on the court

1inStripes reacted to BigWinners in Gate City vs Dan River (2/23)
IIRC, they played that Michigan team very close. Any other team, ETSU could've beaten but that combo of Webber, Rose and Howard were unguardable without having an insane amount of talent. With Jennings, that 92 team could've made a deep run in the tourney.
I still have a signed Jennings Golden State Warriors rookie card around here somewhere. He signed it Keith Mister Jennings.

Legend, the year you speak of Calvin getting hurt was 91, which was Misters SR year. They had been ranked 10th in the country even with Greg Dennis missing all but one game of the season and taking a medical redshirt. Calvin was injured against The Citadel in the opening game for ETSU in the SoCon tourney. I think before NCAA seeding ETSU was ranked around 17th in the country but ended up being given a 10 seed and had to face Acie Earl and Iowa. Lost by 3 76-73. Was a shame they were given a 10 seed that year.
SWVAFB, I was fortunate enough at that time my parents got season tickets for ETSU for a couple of years when they were so good. They were an absolute blast to watch and follow as we went to quite a few away games as well. In 92 when they faced Arizona it was played at the Omni in Atlanta so we got tickets and went to the game. Stayed in ATL after the win and got to watch them play the Fab Five in the second round when Webber and crew were freshman.

Mister Jennings was not on the team that beat Arizona. He, Major Geer, Alvin West and Michael Woods graduated the year before. Jason Niblett was the PG with Calvin SG, Marty Story the SF, Rodney English PF and Greg Dennis at C.

I too, went to elementary school in Maryland, (Hillsdale Elementary in Aberdeen) we had the most awesome lunches, we had shrimp, pizza, and philly cheesesteak sandwiches, crab cakes and apple pies. we came back to Scott Co. in sixth grade and the cook at Yuma Elementary School was fantastic she made homemade rolls that were to die for and her hot dog chili was homemade. Soup Beans and cornbread with real butter, turkey and dressing. man the memories. I was glad to partake in the hijacking of this thread just for nostalgia's sake!
