Gentleman's agreement or not, Baker's injury was a fluky non-contact one. Yes, it happened in the benefit game but he literally was rolling out of the pocket and the ACL tore. One of the weirdest things I have witnessed in my life

Great article, and makes me appreciate the fan passion back home, unlike down here where outside of a couple of schools, most games will be attended by 500 or less, no matter how good the teams are.

this isn’t necessarily what you were asking about but check out this article written about the importance of football in SWVA by Brady Hess:

rvtne216 reacted to Lance in SWVASports.com is coming to an end…
I’ve been around for 20+ years. I started swva sports.com back when I started swvaol.com which was a dial up internet device. Roughly in 2001 or so. At that time gman had the old swvafootball message board going. My idea was to bring it all under one roof at swvasports so we could have one place to visit and talk about everything year round and not 15 different pages that were dedicated to each sport. Gman liked the idea and this place was born. At some point years later I got busy with kids, life, family etc etc. and kinda faded in to the background. Gman has kept it rolling along but he’s ready for a break. Instead of closing doors here I told him I’d just come out of semi retirement and keep it rolling. So here we are. Getting ready to move it to a new server, clean up a few things, and on down the road we go. Together.
gman will still be around I’m sure.
not much should really change. I’ll try to do a few things to make it better.
anyway … it’s all good. Enjoy.

rvtne216 reacted to cityofRaven in A Note To Rick Cormany at Radford, Julius Gallishaw at Virginia High or whichever team makes the 2A Final vs. John Marshall
I remember playing in a travel ball tournament in Tennessee when I was in 5th grade. We lost to a team from Kingsport 124-16 in the quarterfinals.
No surprise, that team made it to the championship and the opponent for that game just walked out, shook hands and left.
Would be funny if that is what John Marshall opponents did as a sign of protest.

rvtne216 reacted to Ryan4VT in SWD History
History was made today in the SWD tournament. Kendi Dye became the first female to win a Southwest District championship by winning in the 120 weight class.
Proud of her and all of the Blues who help Richlands win the SWD wrestling title again this season.
On to regionals at Union next Saturday!

I still have a picture of the line for that game. 3 hours before tipoff and the line stretched all the way to the main road. It was unbelievable. 1 hour before tipoff there wasn't any seat available in the gym.

The Graham-Gate City state semifinal game at Tazewell Middle School in 2018 is one that stands out to me. Mac McClung scored 42 points that night while Gate City punched its ticket to Richmond. I was on the call for NFHS that night. TMS was filled to the brim.
