Richlands incident

I read the comments on Rife. I know Rife a little bit, not well, but know him distantly. I liked him the 2 times we met. I think hes a good dude. I know about the "rules" and all that BS. What about the dirtbag who went down near the bench and literally wanted and tried to start confrontation? No talk about this nitwit? The guy that did this has a reputation in that area (as I just discovered by text last night and I know the source is valid) and he's a hothead and is known to be one.

I hope the Taxewell County School Board gets this right. Suspend Rife for 3 games as he broke the rules, but understand everyone has a bad day, but the dirtbag who Started the confrontation (on purpose and with intent) should be the one banned from Tazewell County gyms for the next 1 year. That's actually the appropriate thing to do. Only my opinion, and it's easy to pile on, but I just hope people know the Other side of the story about the party involved and his history that actually causes the incident on purpose.

I’d ban him for life not just a year but that’s just me. I don’t know if he’s a dirt bag but he’s definitely to blame for instigating the entire exchange. These parents have been at this all year because they’re still mad about Lowe. It was unfair to Rife, his assistants, & the girls when none of them had anything to do with Lowe being let go. Lowe has stirred so much crap and keeps stirring. I doubt he will ever coach again in Tazewell County.

I see the point about instigating but it’s still words vs. physical action.  Most fans/parents yell from the bleachers during games whether it be directed at coaches, officials, or players. Very few of them are yelling positive things.  Unless they can prove that he made a credible verbal threat, there’s not much they can do. WJHL posted that an investigation is underway.  It will take a while for all details to leak.

Calling someone you’ve never met and don’t know a dirtbag. Cool.

I've have never met Vladimir Putin. Don't need to know or meet to be able to form an opinion. You are right on one thing. Dirtbag is excessive and for that, I apologize. That's inappropriate, but nitwit and hothead, I am sticking with. Ryan, you know and I know, that the guy who did this has done this before. It's not a 1 time thing.

I'm not sure it was just words F@lcon.

I just hope or wish we wouldn't go from 0 to 100. Meaning, there are tons of punishments other than simply Firing someone. Everybody has a bad day and I'm not saying Rife was in the rules, but because someone is not within the rules doesn't automatically justify escalating to firing someone. Look at their body of work. Has Rife had regular incidents like this? Absolutely not.

Now look at the other guy, yes.....many fans yell and shout and critique the coaches, but there is a few....one in particular here, thst seems to yell a little louder, that seems to be a little closer than the others to the bench compared to the others, the one that seems to be a touch more angry than the others, and it's not a one time thing. His body of work shows a pattern of behavior. That's all I'm saying.

I saw and heard the guy running his mouth apparently trying to coach the girls himself from the bleachers right in front of me hollering and at one point it seemed to distract the blues , he then got up and proceeded across the court and got behind the girls bench and starting pointing his finger at Tom and the girls , so he earns the dirtbag status for the night !

I might add this to my rant , 75 year old coach gets harassed by 40 year old and the 40 year old gets pushed around like a rag doll and embarrassed in front of  around 500 people! Goes to show you that old men are some mean ass dudes !

Fans are getting out of control at High School sports, especially basketball.  Bottom line is people need to act civilized, it's teenage girls playing a GAME.  Good grief, have some self control.  There is no excuse for coach or a ref to take verbal abuse by a so-called "fan".  Complain about a call, sure that happens.  But too often now, people are yelling out personal insults, particulary at the coaches and refs, it's ridiculous.  I don't know what was said in this situation, but people can be first class jerks.

Can’t fire somebody who has no intentions on returning.

Ricky Lawrence is a daddy ball coach that took his bullshit too far and anyone that lives in Richlands knows this is a fact. There’s no way he should ever be allowed in the gym again. I miss the good old days when there could be a good knock down drag out and the best man came out on top, those were good times.

I don't claim to know what happened nor do I care. That being said, regardless of what was said once you step off the floor and into the crowd this argument is over. Rife needs to go, not next week , not next month now. Once you lay hands on the fans it's a liability issue for the school system. Rife should be escorted from school property and dismissed, and the fan should get a lifetime ban from all county events. No room for this whatsoever. Good luck trying to straighten out this mess.

You know he is retired, right? He is not a full time TCPS employee. He stepped in to coach girls basketball and that’s it, so, dude, where they gonna escort him to?  😂😂

If it came to a knockdown drag out between Rife & this Lawrence dude, my money is on Rife. In the old days, this guy wouldn’t have made it to the bench, practically on the court. He would have been stopped dead in his tracks. People in charge the other night should have escorted him before he made it to the bench especially if he’d been mouthing off all night. All these Lowe supporters crucifying Rife online , calling for him to be arrested etc. is ridiculous. If Lowe & company really cared about the girls, they would have thrown their support to Rife but they chose to raise 💩 all season. I don’t have a dog in the fight and aren’t friends with Rife or Lowe but I know BS when I see it.

Good he can stay there. He's lost his marbles.

Way more to the story than that.  What if I told you the incident was PLANNED by the fan?  That's right.  Literally planned in advance and CELEBRATED for the accomplishment after the game?   That will come out in time.  It's actually true.  Does that make Rife right?  Nope, but justified firing based on the fans history and literally, a planned incident?   Absolutely not.  Again, a mute point because Rife isn't paid by the County and he is retired, but if he were an employee, in my opinion, it justifies making someone better.  Anger/conflict management/1 year suspension.  Why?  He has a body of work over 40 years that MATTERS.  Has helped people.  Has helped families.  Has helped kids by the hundreds.  Has helped Tazewell County, and that should mean something compared to............the guy who like I just wrote, PLANNED the event before entering the gym and has a history of anger issues.  There a DIFFERENCE here in the two parties, and again, just my opinion, punishment yes, but firing...absolutely not.  Again, mute point in Rife's case.

I have heard that a complaint has been filed with the Richlands Police Dept.  if this is true not sure a 3 game and 1 year suspension would mean anything

If I were Rife, I’d file a counter complaint against that guy especially if he felt threatened or was threatened. If the guy spit on him and someone witnessed that, bad for that dude. If what Bandana says can be substantiated, no judge or jury will convict Rife on any charge. I’m no lawyer but that’s just my take on it. If it was a set up, shame on that guy. How petty, vindictive , and childish can a grown man be, SMH.

Man, if actual criminal charges come from a shove or two, he totally should have threw some good punches and whipped his ass. Couple black eyes, busted mouth, loose a few teeth, now that could stop a trash talking dad and make him think twice about running his mouth and approaching the teams bench while a game is going on. I would want more out of my assault charge.

The board has to do what’s in the best interest of the girls. Both parties were clearly in the wrong but Rife did get physical. I don’t see a way of Rife returning to coach at Richlands without it being a bigger distraction. Legally there are a lot of previous cases like this, involving stuff like pro wrestling. The thing going against Rife is that there is an expectation of safety if you are sitting in the stands. If the fan didn’t spit on him he likely has a good lawsuit. I guess Rife could just change his name to Meta World Peace. As for banning the fan I doubt the board will out of fear of litigation.

Except the fan wasn’t sitting in the stands. He left the stands and was leaning across the bench yelling and pointing, etc. He was nearly on the court. It’s not like Rife went up in the stands after him.
