Noticed last week that the Dogs were playing different players at D-End. I know that Taylor played the spot and I think that one of the Patterson's played the other side. That combination gives you added speed and agility. They still didn't shed the blocks very well but were far better at pursuing down the line and forcing the plays to the inside.

I just happen to know Captain Stoneman. I've served with him for many years. I consider him to be an outstanding person, a model soldier and a first-rate leader. I wish him well in this new adventure and envision great things under his leadership.

A lot of athletes running around on the field for appo. Graham looked sluggish and couldn't capitalize on opportunities. Credit to Appomattox. They played like a determined, focused and mature team. Appo defense did an outstanding job of nullifying Lester's legs. Great  defensive scheme. GMEN have represented SWVA well. Proud of the coaches and players.

Difference of 2 halves looked to be the change at QB. Both are play makers but #15 is a QB. When he's leading the offense it produces results. Maybe it was discipline issue but he didn't play last week either. Thats the poor use of talent.
The defense cannot tackle. They are in position to make plays more often than not but get dragged 3-4 yards before a tackle is made if at all.
Far to predictable on offense. If you swing a hammer at nail enough you will eventually hit it. Marion's top 2 rushers RB and QB carried the ball an obscene amount. Marion's fourth quarter lapse was more about fatique than the dogs finding something. I'll agree with the lack of effort and desire. Flat is flat. When tazewell scored early in the fourth it appeared they found a desire to win but still were unable to keep Marion on their side of the fifty. Maybe a combination of your assessment and mine?

    Cane4lf10,

    Lets set the record straight.

I helped coach at PHS the last 4 years it was open. The #1 reason for not being able to win was numbers of kids. We usually started the season with 23-25 players and ended the season with 17-18 that had no injuries. We constantly played 7 and 8 kids both ways. They never left the field. Second, we had skill position players out the wazoo (evident by what you now see at THS). What we did not have was consistent linemen.

Fundelmentals was what we worked on everyday while I was there. That translated in 7 wins the last 2 years and actullay competing with teams that generally blew us out in previous years. Tackling drills every day improved their confidence. Trust me when I tell that the losing mentality was extremely hard to overcome. But we improved as a team every year that I was there. Louthan may not have been the most football savy coach but his relationship with the kids was rock solid. They beleived in what we were doing and we belived that they could win.
Are these athletes better off at Tazewell?: absolutely. But don't hash a coaching staff that you knew nothing about.

Looks like five sets in your picture. One set of compliant bleachers similar to the to those run about 30,000(around 190 seats per set). Found a press box that was 8x30 that ran 35,000. Not overly expensive but certainly not cheap.

Abingdon/Bluefield would be an interesting matchup. Abingdon appears to have a solid passing game and I still believe that to be the beavers cryptonite. Gate city got the birds early. Could be a different ballgame if played again. Just have to watch the rest of the season and see how things pan out for the birds. Gotta give em credit. They aren't the same buzzards from recent years.

Bluefields offense will be difficult to contain. They block well for those speed demons who handle the ball. BUT, the beaver defense(while quick at every position) does not play physical or hard on every down. There will be some seams to throw the ball and the second and third tier of the defense do not tackle well(they cover ground and close fast). If Richlands can out physical Bluefield at the line they have a shot. As Ryan stated, control the ball and set the pace. Bluefield will score, but I like what the blues have shown the last 2 weeks. No prediction from me but I might drive down to watch what I feel may be the best game played in our area this year.

Covington has some size on both lines as well as tons of speed. They have 2 very good receivers and a decent qb. They will try to run the read option out of the spread and a variation of the waggle. They also line up in single wing sets. If they get to the corner they are hard to catch. They do not tackle well but can pursue any play. Covington has very little depth. IMO they have the talent to win but are not coached well in some areas.

James River had a lot of success passing the ball against them. They disrupted Covington's offense with well timed blitzes.

    Honaker should get the win.
