FootballFan67 Posted October 27 Report Posted October 27 Does Coach Davis get his 2nd win? I think he has a great chance to pull off victory against Marion. Richlands has shown improvement since week 1 despite the many losses. I think the momentum from the win over Galax carries into this week. It’s at home which is also a plus. Hopefully, a big crowd shows up to support those boys. tbgfan 1 Quote

DeletedAccount Posted October 29 Report Posted October 29 Ronnie Davis plots up a good defensive scheme to hold Marion in check., while the Richlands offense continues to roll like they did against Galax. Richlands finishes with two wins on the year and a little bit of optimism going into Davis's second year. Quote

I thought they'd be a bit ahead of where they are now....I thought they might get 3-4 wins this year...but two wins in last three games and a good showing against Graham...you can build off that. tbgfan Posted November 1 Report Posted November 1 At times, I will get out my notes from my pastor's previous messages. I see one that speaks fresh to my heart for the day, and I will post it to family and friends. In the message I posted today, it is a testament to the Blues team, as well, for this season. "After the flood in Genesis 8, the raven was sent out to seek dry land. It never came back. The raven didn't return, because it fed on dead things it found. The dove was then sent out. The dove returns with the olive sprig. The raven's testimony, "I found what I needed without you." The dove testimony, "I found what was needed, but didn't want it without you." "A lot of us are one lost away of giving up. What dominates our vision? It isn't where you are, it's what you're looking at." "Pain should never change your vision for the finish line. We must continue to run the race. The pain and weight tires us, discourages us. The apostle Paul said as his testimony, not glory to his trials, "I have finished the race. I haven't come in first, but I've finished." The Blues are scrappers, they've kept pushing and focusing. They haven't always gotten the win, but they are crossing the finish line. I think the post above speaks more to the real importance of sports in the proper context. The value is in the striving and not just the winning. The ultimate purpose is to teach those lessons for use later in life, not just for a win or a ring. I know, tbgfan doesn’t need my two cents, but not compromising your values to take the easy route to success in the face of adversity is more important than the wins and losses. Eventually, the wins come. In today’s environment, reading the headlines, message boards, social media, etc, patience and hard work seems to be a thing of the past. Find a better situation, recruit, bend over backwards to make others happy, so they don’t leave, and use political leverage to get what you want appear to be the prevailing values of the day. (I’m speaking in generalities, and know that every situation is not the same.) The point, I am trying to get across is if Ronnie Davis and company can continue the course, improve, and teach these boys to be good men, they will be successful. The wins will come, likely not state titles, although possible. However, I am willing to bet that many of those kids go farther in life from trying to win the right way. I’m not one of the coaches and I’m not close enough day to day to know the specifics, but based on some experience, I’d like to call out a kid after the win, as did ATW. Because of the performance, he had some recognition, but you would be hard pressed to find a better young man than Andrew Boyd. (This isn’t meant to slight anyone else, just personal experience with the young man.) He continues to work hard despite the setbacks of the prior 2 seasons. A team can be very competitive and successful with a bunch of kids like him working hard. Quote
GGH32 Posted November 1 Report Posted November 1 I going to take the Hurricanes in this one. Being an alumnus that played this great game I know we're not very good/well coached, but I can't imagine we go winless. Tonight is our best/last chance to get a Win and I think we pull it off. Quote

I hope you're correct but Jack Ginn will be able to say that he produced Marion's first winless season since 1954 after this one. That won't phase the man one bit to change anything with that program either. Quote

Marion has gone down drastically over the past decade and I'm not sure there is any light at the end of the tunnel as their feeder program is also struggling. Its hard to figure out why Northwood refuses to play Marion because they say they can't compete with the big red machine. However, Northwood's 8th grade team has been hammering Marion for awhile now and the two schools play each other in every other sport. Have you seen the attendance at NW games? The 8th grade team has bigger gates. I don't see how they pay the officials and line off the field unless the county is giving them money. There is absolutely no reason these two schools shouldn't be playing each other being in the same county. Liam McPoyle 1 Quote
rjhall71 Posted November 1 Report Posted November 1 @Liam McPoyle There is no reason we shouldn't be able to compete with Central this year. You can argue for him all you want, but I have been a parent of a Marion football player every year from Joey Carroll on. He is by far the worst head coach in that time frame. Quote

Most parents aren't willing to speak up, instead choosing to cowardly disparage coaches online. Go Steers! Quote
